Hogsmead

A/N at the end........

Chapter Four: Hogsmead

“I still can’t believe he asked me! And in front of everyone too! Oh Hermione, I never, ever thought I would be engaged to Harry! I am so happy!”

Hermione laughed at her friend who had been talking non-stop since Halloween when Harry had asked her to marry him.

“Is he going to meet you at Hogsmead next Saturday?”

“I don’t know. Are you going?”

“Remus and I are going together.”

Ginny raised an eyebrow at Hermione and smirked. “Oooo, you’re going on a date?!”

“It is not a date. We’re going as friends.”

“Right.”

“I’m serious.”

“But you wish it was a date, don’t you?”

“No,” Hermione said unconvincingly with a slight blush gracing her cheeks.

Ginny laughed at her. “Yes you - ”

Before she could finish Hermione threw a pillow at her.

“Oh! You are sooo going to regret that!”

Ginny jumped up off Hermione’s bed and picked up the pillow that was thrown at her. She went to hit Hermione with it, but Hermione grabbed her pillow and moved out of Ginny’s hitting range. Hermione went behind Ginny and lifted her pillow for attack.

“Pillow fight!!!” Hermione yelled, then hit Ginny with her pillow.

10 minutes later Hermione threw her pillow down and plopped onto her bed in defeat.

“I give up!” She said laughing. Ginny fell down beside her and tried to catch her breath between her laughter.

“Wow, it’s been a long time since we’ve done that.”

“Too long. We should do it more often.”

Hermione laughed. “Just think what the students would say if they knew what two of their Professors were just doing!”

“Yeah. So, I’ll ask Harry if he wants to meet me in Hogsmead, then the four of us could have lunch or something. Unless you don’t want us imposing on your date.”

Hermione glared at her, though it had no effect because of the crimson blush that crept upon her cheeks.

“Come on, admit it Hermione!”

“Admit what?” Hermione held back her smile.

“Admit that you’re attracted to him.”

“Are you?”

“I’m engaged darling, I’m not allowed to tell.”

“You can look but you can’t touch.”

“Right. So are you?”

“Maybe.” Ginny gave her a look.

“Fine, don’t tell me.”

“Fine, yes I am, maybe, a little bit.” Hermione looked away, slightly embarrassed.

“So if he tried to kiss you, you’d kiss back?”

“Ginny! He’s old enough to be my father!”

“You know that doesn’t matter, not in our world.”

“It’s not like he’d kiss me anyway.”

“You don’t give yourself enough credit. You didn’t answer the question.”

“Yes.”

“Yes what?” Ginny asked, wanting to make Hermione say it.

“Yes, I would.”

“Would what?” Ginny chuckled.

“I would kiss him back if he were to kiss me.”

That night Hermione went to bed smiling. The morning of the Hogsmead trip came quickly and Hermione found herself tearing her closet apart, trying to figure out what she should wear.

“Ginny, what are you wearing?”

“I’m wearing my teaching robes. Honestly Hermione, it’s not like this is a date or anything.”

Hermione glared half-heartedly at her friend.

“Just wear your teachers robes, Remus probably will too.”

“You’re right.” Hermione put her robes on then looked into a mirror. “What about my hair?”

“Here, I’ll do it for you. Are you going to wear your hat?”

“Should I?”

“No.”

“Okay, then I won’t.”

Ginny went behind Hermione and quickly did her hair. She pulled half of Hermione’s hair into a fountain bun at the back of her head, then straightened the rest, curling the tips.

“Thank you so much Gin, I don’t know what I would do without you!”

“Be late?” Ginny offered with a grin.

“Oh! Let’s go!”

The two girls made their way down to the Great Hall and found Remus and Harry waiting for them.

“Harry! I thought you weren’t going to be able to meet me until lunch time?”

Ginny went over to Harry and they starting walking to Hogsmead leaving Remus and Hermione alone.

“Shall we?” Remus asked, hold his arm out for Hermione. She took it, smiling.

As Remus and Hermione walked down to Hogsmead, arm in arm, they received many looks from the students and staff, though they were oblivious to them.

Grabbed my wand
The wards are up
I turned off the coffee pot
Running late as I walk out the door
I feel like I’m forgetting something

Feeling good, great big smile
First time in a long, long while
You ain’t been the first thing on my mind
Yeah, I feel like I’m forgetting something

Maybe my heart is finally healing, Could it be I’m getting over you
Baby, I’m better now at dealing, With living life without your loving
Your memory’s down to nearly nothing, Yeah, I feel like I’m forgetting something

There’s a guy at work, he’s cute for sure
I’ve never noticed him before
Something’s had me so preoccupied
But I feel like I’m forgetting something

Maybe my heart is finally healing, Could it be I’m getting over you
Baby, I’m better now at dealing, With living life without your loving
Your memory’s down to nearly nothing, Yeah, I feel like I’m forgetting something

Remus and Hermione were walking down the long street in Hogsmead adorned with all sorts of shops. They’d come across four students that were “not acting accordingly” in a darkened corner. Ironically, three were from Slytherin. They came nearer to the end of the path (toward where Harry, Ron, and Hermione met Sirius in fourth year). They stopped at a gate and she leaned up against it and wrapped her arms around her thin frame.

“It’s rather cold. I wish I would have brought my cloak.”

Without thinking twice, Remus pulled his cloak off his shoulders and wrapped it around Hermione’s shoulders, his hands lingering on her arms a few seconds longer than what was necessary. Hermione smiled at him.

“Thank you.”

“It was no problem.”

Remus smiled at her.

“Hermione, I know we said we’d come as friends, but…”

Hermione looked at him curiously. She felt her heart pounding in her chest when he brushed the back of his hand against her cheek, then, cupping her face in his hands, lowered his face to hers and captured her soft lips in a gentle, sweet kiss. After a moment, Hermione lifted her hands to his elbows, closed her eyes and leaned in to the kiss.

A few blissful moments later he pulled away from her and let her go. She still had her eyes closed when she heard his voice.

“I want this Hermione. I’ve wanted this for so long.”

Hermione slowly opened her eyes and saw that Remus looked quite anxious. She looked deep into his eyes, somehow managing to keep her face impassive, then she smiled thoughtfully.

“I - ”

Remus put a finger to her lips. “Shhh, you need not say anything now. Just think about it.”

Hermione smiled humorously and kissed his finger. “What I was going to say is that I only just recently realized how much I want this, with you.”

Remus looked at her, clearly shocked with her reaction. Hermione put her arms around his neck and pulled him into a loving, passionate kiss.

“Looks like someone else had the same idea as us.” An amused voice said a few minutes later.

Remus and Hermione quickly pulled apart, equally flushed from the passionate kiss. The sight that met them was quite comical. A smiling and seemingly pleased Ginny and an open-mouthed, shocked Harry were staring at them. Harry closed his mouth and chanced a glance at Ginny. Seeing her amused estate, he turned his attention back to Remus and Hermione.

“When?” He asked, not sounding the least bit disapproving.

Hermione recovered next. “Umm, about five minutes ago.” She said innocently.

Ginny was choking back a bout of laughter. Remus fully recovered from being caught-in-the-act, so to speak.

“Hello Harry, Ginny. What do you say we all go to the Three Broomsticks for a butterbeer?”

The group slowly headed back toward the main part of the small village. Remus had wrapped his arm around Hermione’s waist and she was huddled against his well-built frame. Hermione was now completely aware of the looks her and Remus were receiving. They reached the Three Broomsticks and went inside. Harry, Ginny, and Hermione went to a table while Remus got their drinks.

“So Hermione, how are you really?”

Hermione looked at Ginny questioningly and Ginny nodded.

“Ginny told you then? I’m doing much better. I’m sorry for not telling you, but you have to understand that I felt like I couldn’t, no matter how much I wanted to.”

“I understand, kind of, Hermione. Don’t worry about it. I just want to make sure you are better now.” Harry smiled at her. “And apparently you are.”

Hermione blushed deeply and Remus took that moment to come to the table. He sat next to Hermione.

“Remus. Just the person I’d wanted to talk to.” Harry said, hiding a smile and pretending to be gravely serious.

Remus furrowed his brows. “What is it?”

“Well, I’d just like to make sure you know that if you hurt Hermione, you’ll have to answer to me.”

Remus chuckled a bit. “I’d expect nothing less from you. Besides, I have no intention of ever hurting her.”

Hermione smiled at him and he brought her hand to his lips and kissed it gently.

Author\'s Notes: Wow! This is the longest chapter so far! I am so proud of myself! If you\'ve read this a/n, put \"love is in the air\" in your review! I realize that this has kinda been a bit bland, but I\'m working on building the plot. I hope this is enough to sustain you all. I am working my way to the smut... don\'t worry, it will come! *No pun intended!* The song! Please don\'t take the song in a negative sense; as Hermione forgetting Severus, that\'s not what I mean... I just meant to use it to show that she\'s now able to move on... yeah... I hope you all enjoyed the pillow fight... it makes me think of the phrase, \"We don\'t stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing...\"

Thanks sooo much to everyone that has reviewed! I really do love reviews!

Tatia: Good question... the whole \"being engaged on Halloween because of his parents\" was because James and Lily died on Halloween and Harry wants to create more pleasant memories to tie to the date. Halloween is more a bittersweet day for him now... yeah...

Deb: Reviewers like you make my job so much more pleasant! I am so glad that you understand the pacing that I\'ve taken with this! We\'ll see about Carrie...

SandraM: Do I really get my very own Forbidden Forest filled with Monkeys?!?!? Yay! LoL... thanks....

Holls: I try...

animegrl: I realize that last chapter was a bit boring... I hope this one was a little more exciting...

Flick: It\'s ok, I know you read it... \"As friends of coure...\" or so we thought... hehe....

Well, stay tuned for the next installment of Mending the Wounds and don\'t forget to review!
