Recovery - Chapter Five

"Malfoy?"

The Slytherin could barely hear the voice over the howling wind, but he reconigsed it all the same.

"Malfoy? Can you hear me?"

Sighing, Draco looked over his shoulder at Ron Weasley. "What do you want, Weasley?"

"I couldn't help but notice the distressed look on your face a minute ago, Malfoy." Ron started, stepping closer to the other boy. "Are you okay?"

"Why do you pretend to care?" Draco's voice was cold, making Ron shiver a bit more. Slowly, Ron sat on the wet grass next to Draco. Both were soaked to the bone, but neither seemed to notice this small detail.

"I don't pretend, Malfoy." Ron said slowly. "I can't even start to explain why I seem to care about you. Don't take that the wrong way, though. I stconsconsider you my enemy. But, sometimes things like that should be set aside for more important things."

"Don't go all philisophical on me, Weasel." Draco insisted. Draco sighed softly and looked over at the red head, who kept his bright blue eyes trained on the water of the lake.

"I have to ask you something, Malfoy." Ron said suddenly. "Why did you say that it should of been me? I heard you that night. You said only I have the right to tarnish you like that. What did you mean?" Draco stiffened at his words, but didn't reply. "Come on, Malfoy. I'm not going to repeat it to anyone, if I haven't already."

"You wouldn't understand." Was Draco's response.

"Try me."

"Your my enemy." Draco spoke softly, making Ron lean over to hear him. "If it was you, then it would make sense. I hate you. You hate me. It would only add to the conflict. It makes sense why you would do that to me! But they were my friends, Weasley!" Draco's voice suddenly grew sharper and higher in his stress. "They were suppose to respect me and not try to hurt me or treat me like I'm some petty weakling."

"I understand, Malfoy." Ron replied. "Only an enemy would want to control and tarnsih you like that. So... What does this mean?"

"What are you talking about? It means nothing." Draco mumbled. He covered his face in his hands. "This has destroyed everything, that much is certain."

"I don't think so." Ron said. "Maybe some good can come out of it sooner or later. It's a possibility."

"Good?! Good!" Draco screamed, glaring at Ron. "My father suspects, Weasel! He's determined to keep me on his side now! Do you know what that means? Do you? When I come back from Christmas break, Weasley, I'll be just another pathetic servant of the Dark Lord!" Ron's eyes widened and he found he couldn't say anything at this news. He wasn't sure what shocked him more, the fact that Draco was going to recieve the Dark Mark or that Draco didn't seem to want it. "Don't take me the wrong way, though. I respect my father."

"But?" Ron encouraged.

"But..." Draco said slowly. "I think it's stupid, okay? Stupid! Voldemort is a half-blood for crying outloud and here my father and all those other chimps are bowing and kissing his robes. It's disgusting!"

"Why don't you tell someone?" Ron asked. "Why don't you tell Dumbledore?"

"That Muggle-Lover?" Draco scoffed.

"That so-called Muggle-Lover might be able to help you, Malfoy." Ron glared.

"Really?" Draco rolled his eyes and looked away. "I highly doubt it. My father is a force to be reckoned with."

"And supposedly you were, too." Ron replied. "And look what happened there!"

Ron barely had time to duck as the fist came flying towards his face. He was actually shocked at the power of the hit. Draco wasn't that big, hardly muscular. which made a bit of sense, considering the boy never lifted a finger in his life. The punch must of been filled with anger. That was the only explination as to why Ron's nose was bleeding and his eye was swelling up.

Ron fell back ungracefully. Barely a breath was taken before the pale blonde was on top of him, pounding into his face. It took Ron a moment to truely come to grips with what was happening to him. He was getting beat up by Draco Malfoy. Draco had not even attempted to reach for his wand, he went straight for the fist. And, considering the rain had stopped a few seconds ago, the liquid on his face indicated Draco was definitely doing damage. Ron struggled with the boy, but Draco obviously had a lot of built up anger. His furry aided with his actions and Ron was literally left helpless. This gave Ron a chance to think about the event occuring around him. It was a few second after thinking that he figured out water, or some form of it, was still dripping onto his face. And then he realized.

Draco Malfoy was crying.

As quickly as the fight began, it ended. Though not by someone passing by and coming to Ron's aid. It wasn't even Ron getting his own punch in. No, in fact, Ron was still laying on the grass in shock. But the shock was now brought on by something else. Draco Malfoy, his enemy, someone he once thought was a Junior Death Eater, was doing something to him. He had stopped punching. He was still crying, but Ron thought it was for something totally different now, because Ron felt the need to cry himself. All because Draco Malfoy was kissing him.

It wasn't the kind of kiss a person spent their nights fantasizing. It was harsh, anger filled, and oddly passionate. Ron still didn't move, even when Draco's tongue grazed across his lower lip. Thoughts were rampaging through his mind, and he was quite sure the same was happening to Draco.

The speed the events were passing was rather disturbing. All within two minutes the two boys had fought, then kissed, and now laid of the ground breathing heavily. Ron kept his body stark stiff, not sure what to expect Draco to do next. Draco was still on top of him, stradling his waist. The Slytherin's eyes were closed and his forhead was resting against Ron's. Strangely enough, out of the whole evening, it took the longest for Draco to open his eyes and look at Ron. The blush was evident immediately on the pale blonde.

"What was that, Malfoy?" Ron found himself asking.

"I don't know."

"You don't know? How in the hell do you not know, Malfoy?" Ron was getting angry. Not as angry as his counterpart had been, but if push came to shove, Ron was naturally a short-tempered person, so the feat wasn't difficult. "You bloody kissed me!"

"I believe I did." Draco's voice was a bit cold, like he had drawn a curtain over his emotions. This only fueled the anger rising in the back of Ron's mind.

"Get off of me, you mindless prat!" Ron suddenly screamed, shoving the blonde off of him so he could jump to his feet. Draco sat on the grass, calmly looking up at him.

"Mindless?"

"Yes, mindless!" Ron yelled. "Your mindless, Malfoy! Your going to joina group of suicidal madmen and follow a disgusting snake wanna-be to your death! If that's not mindless, then I dont' know what is."

"And was kissing you mindless?" Draco replied softly.

"Bloody hell!" Ron kicked at the ground, sending a clump of dirt at Draco. Draco barely flinched. "Get away from me. I dont' know why I bother! You dont' want to help yourself, so why should I attempt to help you? No, don't answer. Just stay away from me Malfoy! Stay far away."

End Notes:
Wow... i honestly didn't expect this to happen in this chapter if you want the honest truth. o.O I was gonna hold off on the kissing till later, but hey... Draco does what he wants.
