A Complaint
Hi all,
No doubt this will annoy some people, but I had a bad review for this story, and decided to share it here so that I could properly respond to the comments made. I've removed the review, not because it bothers me to have a bad review, but because I know what some of my friends/reviewers will say to that first reviewer, and honestly, I don't want a flame war associated with Lentesco.

All right, since you seem to be so desperate to get the maximum amount of reviews with the minimum effort, you've just got another one!
What the hell are those tiny mini little weenie chapters for??? [curses inwardly] Your 45 chapters could easily be condensed into 10, 15 at the most. Some of them could almost be considered paragraphs, they were just a few short lines long. Do you have any idea how irritating that is??? Sure, it's your story, you can write it any way you want, but you obviously did that to a) get more reviews than you would had you condensed chapters together, and b) so that people would look at it and go "Wow, she wrote 45 chapters, I have to read that!" So yeah, you probably attracted more people that way, but I bet you also offended and irritated a whole bunch (including me) and made many leave, not to come back.
Okay, number of things I could respond to with this (first and foremost, this was written by someone who is not registered on AFF, so I have to wonder how many stories this person has written that s/he thinks writing one - however short the chapters - is 'minimum effort'?)

Me: Erm, did you not get that there are two story lines and we go from one to the other and have them happening in juxtaposition so that there is a symmetry to it all?

Me: Clearly this person didn't bother reading the whole story, because they would have realised that it isn't 45 chapters long, it is shorter as there is, as always, an AN. And my second response would be - think you can do better? have at it.

Me: No I didn't. But as this person wouldn't believe me whatever I said, I'll just reiterate that Lentesco has TWO plots, so it's actually two stories.

Me: Truly, I've never read anything so ridiculous in my life. People like PWPs. They like short, smutty stories. And the thought of writing a long story to "impress" readers into reading it is not only something I never would think of doing, but also tells me something about the mindset of this particular reviewer. It also makes no sense, as I didn't publish Lentesco completed, as those who read it from the start know, I published it two chapters at a time. I didn't know until the end how long it was going to be, so the notion that I wrote short chapters to impress and make a long story is, well... laughable.

Me: Again, I doubt it, but people who left? Boo hoo. If they don't want to read my stuff I have no problem with that. I have no problem with people leaving constructive criticism (as I have received in the past and gratefully acted on), but to be slagged off by someone who clearly doesn't know a damn thing about me or writing and who has made a judgement about me that is so wrong it's frightening? No, that I won't leave on my review page.
Sorry all, but I wasn't going to let that review go unchallenged when it was so very wide of the mark it was on another continent.
Actually, I want to publicly thank the reviewer as s/he brought to my attention something important - I have had some fabulous reviews from people, (the bad reviews are the exception, not the norm) and I want to again thank every single person who has followed either Lentesco or any of my other stories and left an encouraging or constructive comment. I do read every last one. So thank you.
