CHAPTER 45

He stopped suddenly, looking up at the tall glass and white marble pyramid styled building that was the Caprican Medical Training Center, feeling a deep shudder roll through him as what they were going to attempt to do, hit him.

"Roark?" came the question as hands settled on his shoulders.  "Son, what is it?  You're suddenly scared out of your mind."

"I don't know if I can do this, Papa," he murmured, his sudden fear obvious in his tone.  "I'm not sure I WANT to do this."

"Oh, Rory," Rodolphus slid an arm around his waist, pressed his lips to his temple.  "You CAN, do this, Darling, and you will not be alone when you sdo so."

He turned his head, looking up to meet the sherry gaze that held so much love, so much faith and trust.  "You won't leave me?"

"Never."  His tone was sure, steady.  "We do this together, or not at all."

Roark nodded as Ethan and Roan stepped up to him, Rabastan and Harry moving up behind him.  Rabastan's hands landed on his shoulders and began to knead away the tension that had suddenly tightened his shoulders.

"Relax. Rory," he said in his deep voice, "whatever happens in there, we are all going to be with you."

"I want to know what this is, Roark," Kili said with a small smile.  "It's very disconcerting to find that I have built a wall around something I wasn't even aware was there.  Let's find out what our minds are so determined to protect us from."

"A part of me wants to know too, but there is this other part...you know that these dreams are horrifying to an extreme and that our unconscious minds chose this way to protect us--"

That was when Dylan stepped forward to lay hands on them both.  "My dreams have become more numerous, and just as horrifying as both of yours, but they are in pieces, and I know all the pieces are not yet there.  I also have not been able to remember, and I REALLY do not like the feelings I'm getting.  We NEED to know what this is.  What it portends."

A determined look now entered Roark's silver eyes as he looked around at each of them.  "Alright," he said, holding out his hands to his brother and cousin.  "Together."

They slipped their hands into his.  "Together."

                                                                           cccVccc

They sat in a circle, Ethan in the North, to the West sat Roan, across from him, in the South sat Roark Sr., then finally, in the East sat Severus.  Sitting between Ethan and Severus was Rodolphus, between Ethan, and Roan was Rabastan, sitting between Roark Sr. and Severus was Harry then, rounding out their circle, much to his surprise, was Captain William Weasley, or Bill, as he preferred to be called.

"I asked him to join us," Roan told them, "because he can see magic."

"If their magic flares I'll see it before it becomes too dangerous," he told them, his blue eyes on the three in the center of their circle closely.  "So, what exactly, are we going to be doing?"

"How much do you know about the gift of premonition?"

"Not much, I'm afraid," he answered, watching as Roark, Kili and Dylan joined their hands, their eyes slipping closed as they prepared to bring those walls in their minds down.  "It's one of the most rare gifts, hasn't shown up in more than two thousand yahren."

"The Seventh, Ninth, and Thirteenth Lords of Kobol all had this gift.  The ancient books say that is what led the thirteenth Lord to continue on his journey to look for the blue planet he saw in his dreams."  Roan told him.

"Dylan, Kili, and Roark have the gift of premonition," Roark Sr. told him, saw his head turn to look at him in surprise.  "Yes, all three of them.  Over the last few sectars Roark has been having a dream that, once he bolts awake screaming in horror, he can never remember the details of.  Except, that is, for the impressions of death, of pain and fear.  Anger is there, as are fire, and destruction.  Not long ago, Kili and Dylan began to dream the same dream."

"I see," he said, looking at the three.  "So...they're dreaming something so terrifying that their active minds can't, or WON'T face, and therefore have...what?  Placed a block?"

"Not just a block, Bill.  It's a wall.  Rodolphus discovered Roark's not long after they became lovers, and has been trying to get past it ever since.  It was as we began to work with Roark on his shielding that we realized Kili's unconscious mind had ALSO built a wall."

"So now you are planning to take these walls down and see what it is they are seeing in these dreams?"

"Yes, that is the plan.  Hence, if something should HAPPEN to go wrong, the presence of our doctors."

"Okay then," he looked around the circle as he folded his legs.  Looks like they're nearly ready.  What say we get this started?"
