Return of an old friend
44
It had been a few days since Harry had gotten home from the hospital. He had been diagnosed with severe exhaustion and a mild concussion from his fall. It upset him that he was the focus of so much worry. Yet, despite how much displeasure he showed, Tim and Draco both continued to hover over him as if he might explode. However, he was finally alone for a few moments in his studio. He wanted to get right back into the music he was working on, but he knew that Draco wouldn't forgive him if he caught him working.
The worst part of the exhaustion was that even though he was tired his body refused to sleep normally. Life on the road had really messed him up. When he had to hit 23 cities in 30 days, maybe getting 3-4 hours of sleep before each show and then doing any local media interviews, combined with warmups and rehersals, he never really felt as if he could afford sleep. Now that he could sleep, he couldn't seem to make himself. His hands were shaking again, this bothered him more than it had because he could see how much it frightend Draco. He worried for Draco's sake because of how his Dad had died of cancer six years earlier. His face was etched in Harry's mind, for Draco, he wanted to get better.
Harry tried in vain to focus his thoughts through the wash of tired he felt. Sometimes getting up and walking to another room took 20 minutes of consideration before the first steps were taken. He was glad Tim had taken to the new baby, he could imagine the horror of trying to take care of a little baby right now. The crying alone might overwhelm him, not to mention trying to figure out the little one's formula. His mind slumped along as if covered in molases. He felt like he was staring at his knees for an hour when he heard the door open behind him.
"Harry?" Draco called out softly. He'd just returned from practice in kirkland. His drives home were frantic, he was constantly worried about Harry, though, he'd been able to hide it better and his focus was back on the field. He would have to leave Saturday night for the next road game, but he felt ok now that he had Tim keep a close eye on things, plus, if worse came to worse, he'd just take Harry with him.
"Hi Drake." Harry answered softly. He hated this worried tone in his love's voice. He wanted to jump up and say 'Hey I'm alright' but his body knew otherwise. His face was somewhat blank as Draco came up and wrapped his arms around Harry's neck. If there was one thing Harry couldn't fight, it was this exact move.
"Jesus, you're freezing Harry." Draco gasped as he imediately located a blanket that they happened to keep in the studio for other purposes. Harry felt hot with embaressment, he wanted to protest, but the blanket was on before the words would come out. Draco pulled Harry out of his seat and sat himself down on the newly installed carpet, sitting Harry on his lap and wrapping his arms around him. "I'm fine Drake, please stop." Harry voice was soft and childish. He tried to hide a yawn, but instinctively his hand shot up to cover his mouth. His shaking hand.
"You're not fine Harry." Draco pleaded almost as child-like. This upset Harry more, he could hear how frightend and upset Draco sounded, but his brain wasn't fast enough to come up with anything comforting. "Please stop shaking, please." And it had just gotten worse as that plea escaped Draco's lips, Harry knew he was crying. He said the only thing he could think of in his mind. "I'm sorry." but it was mostly a high pitched coughed up whisper.
"Don't appologize baby, I was just talking to your hands." And as awkward as the statment sounded, it made them both laugh. They both had tears in their eyes and both were smiling. Draco pushed turned Harry to the side so he could sneak a kiss, which drew an big objection from Harry. "OW, I told you to shave Draco, stop it. It's all scratchy." This only made Draco more determined in his efforts.
"Seriously Drake-y, it's like fucking glass shards, quit it!" Harry wanted to force him off, but he was in no condition to do that and all his pleas made it worse. He nip Draco's lip and they both laughed after each little one as Draco tried to get a good scruff rub on Harry's smooth face. It was the first romantic moment they'd had since the summer and now it was almost November. They both charished it as they continued just flirting with child-like abandon and humor.
"Seriously now, you're going to shave though right?" Draco looked hurt.
"Real men where scruff jerk." Draco annouced.
It would continue this way until Tim interupted with a call about dinner. Draco had learned to cook some things because he had to, athlete's needed to eat a specific diet to mantain their weight. So he could cook pretty ok, but not great. Harry didn't mind he and Tim chatted about life and what he had been up to. Harry had really been close with Tim and realized just how much he'd regretted being on the road away from everyone including him. Tim was becoming quite the guitar player. He had a serious love intrest and a job at the local fish market.
So much time had passed in the blink of an eye as Harry thought about it, he would definitely have to make sure he was home now. He had missed too much already. He'd not been to a game of Draco's in 4 years and they hadn't really been alone together in years either. Things would have to change.
"Here you go Harry." Draco said as he placed a bowl of pork and pasta infront of him. "Thanks." Came the reply behind a bite. "It's not bad." Harry smiled as he chewed and swallowed. Draco shook his head and placed a bowl for Tim and himself at the table. "The baby is asleep, I fed him an hour ago." Tim said abruptly, realizing he hadn't informed anyone. "You're such a good mommy." Draco teased and ruffled his brother's hair. Tim slapped his hand away. Draco was about to take a bite of his meal when a knock came at the door.
"Who could that be?" He looked perplexed as he got up from the table and prepared to walk the long hallway to the front door. A loud and furious knock came, causing Draco to shout "Hold on, I'm coming!" He hustled the last few steps and took the door knob in hand and opened the door in a huff.
"Well my friend, you should see your face." In the open door way stood 6'7" 256 lbs of red head. "Ron weasely, you son of a bitch." Smiles were exchanged and a quick hug as Draco invited his best friend into the house.
