Disclaimer:
I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Our Children Change Us
--This is the last chapter. It's been written for a while, and, other than a few aditions, is as I wrote it so long ago. I want to thank you all for joining me. This story has been quite an experiment for me, trying new things, and seeing if I can write a chapter at a time and have it make sense.
--I will do an author's notes at the end, answering any qustions/comments you may have.
--Just so you know, there IS a quotation for this chapter, but it's at the end, otherwise it'll ruin what happens.
-- Yes, there is a sequel planned. *One depressed Sick Puppy*
Chapter Forty-Three
No one ever knew whose spell it had been that had slammed into Harry. The Death eaters had crowed with victory as they saw a red spark smash into Harry’s back; saw the boy arch in agony screaming, and topple forward and hit the floor. Still cheering, they passed through the wards, fleeing to safety.
Some witches and wizards had hurried to the edge of the wards, searching for some clue as to the Slytherins’ whereabouts. Others dropped to Harry’s side, hands checking his face, his stomach, his head for some sign of injury. They rolled him onto his back, desperate for some sign he was well.
His blank eyes stared up at the night’s sky. A single tear track glistened on his cheek.
Hermione, supported by Ron, had joined the battle earlier, and had followed her friend when he had left the building. Now she dropped to his side, weeping.
“Harry!” moaned Hermione as she hugged him, rocking back and forth.
“Mate,” Ron’s voice was hoarse, “you gotta get up. We need you.”
The two of them crowded close to the boy, not letting any others close. Together, they could save Harry, even if no one else could.
“Coward,” a cracked voice croaked.
“HARRY!” screamed Hermione in relief and began weeping still more profusely over him.
“Herm, let him breathe!” Ron said, but bent over his friend as well.
“He ran away.” Harry sounded distant, eyes dazed. “He ran away and left me.”
“We’re here,” Hermione said, choked. “We’re here for you and the baby.”
Harry shuddered and closed his eyes.
