All Better
Chapter 43 All Better
Hermione raced over to the bed. Looking over Malfoy's limp form she saw that most of the visible wounds were superficial and could easily be healed. She then took off his clothes to see what other damage there was but it wasn't that bad; it looked as his clothes had worked as a shield for the most part.
She conjured up two bowls and a few soft rags, going into the bathroom to fill the bowls with warm water that she added an antiseptic to. She gently washed away the blood from all his cuts, ringing out the dirty rags in one bowl before dipping them in the clean water mixture to continue. When that was finished, he looked a lot better, but he still didn't want to wake up. She was beginning to get a little worried about that.
When she had decided in earnest to join the Death Eaters, she had learned every basic healing spell and a few more advanced, thinking that it might come in handy at some point and now she was proven correct as she started to heal the minor cuts and bruises. She was about to attempt the deeper ones when Zabini walked into the room from the bathroom.
"Shit." The noise made her jump; she had not realized he was there. "Professor Davis is here."
"Davis? I thought she was going to send Flitwick."
He just shrugged his slender shoulders. "We should probably get downstairs before he comes up and finds Draco."
Realizing that the Head Boy was not aware of the identity of their Transfiguration professor, she nodded, kissed Malfoy's forehead, and followed Zabini through his room and down his stairs.
When they got downstairs they saw that he had seated himself in one of the chairs; Zabini sat on the loveseat and Hermione took the other chair. "Professor," she acknowledged, nodding her head curtly. She was still annoyed at him, after all. Before he had the chance to respond, though, she posed the question that had formed in her head in the short walk to the common room. "Why did she send you?"
He grinned at her. "Because I'm a trustworthy professor who would never steer his students wrong (she snorted). And because she and Flitwick have other business to attend to."
"What happened?"
"Well, everything that Lupin said was true; about half of the members of the Order of the Phoenix are dead, as are their families. It's too bad we didn't get him, too," the professor mused, "that would have been fun for Potter." By now Zabini's jaw was no longer attached to his body as it had fallen into his lap. "Half of Hogsmeade is burned flat. We also went after blood traitors; you're Weasley friends were on top of that list, as was the Lovegood family despite there was only the old man left. A few others, but none you know."
"What about the Weasley's?"
"Burned their house and land. Unfortunately no one was in it; they must be staying at your Order headquarters to be closer to their crazy daughter and the ones with the joke shop. It would be great if we could turn those two... they're brilliant."
"You can't. They don't want to hurt people; just have fun."
"And all the muggle destruction?"
"Oh, we just let loose their prisoners and destroyed some of their landmarks. The only ones that we went after in particular were the Dursleys of number 4 Privet Drive, Surrey."
"Are they dead?"
"Not yet," came the answer with the same wide grin. "Though I'm a little surprised that wasn't reported at that meeting. Just because he doesn't live there anymore doesn't mean they wouldn't be a target. Your Order really is quite daft."
She rolled her eyes at him but before she could say anything, the door to Zabini's room opened and Draco came through the door in a towel. He couldn't bring himself to put the bloody clothes back on. Hermione bolted up and ran over to him to help him to the chair she had been in. "Malfoy! What are you doing coming down here, you're just lucky it's only Professor Davis here. We could all have been in really big trouble." She then turned to Davis. "Do you know how to heal these deper cuts? I was able to do all the minor ones, but I've never tried ones like these."
Five minutes later, Malfoy was completely healed; sore, but there were no new marks on his skin. Zabini finally found his voice asking, "So you're a Death Eater?" When the man nodded his head, he continued "Why didn't you tell us since you know we are as well? Who are the Dursley's?"
"Mister Zabini, you cannot tell anyone about this, either. If it were to get out, I would be sacked and then I wouldn't be here as Miss Granger's liason to the Dark Lord, as she has been working with Potter on an extensive project for Him. And the Dursley's are Potter's muggle family that he lived with on holiday."
"Potter's doing a project for the Dark Lord?" Man, he was confused.
"Yes, he just doesn't know it. But as I was saying. You can't tell anyone. Speaking of people knowing, Miss Granger, I think Snape is becoming suspicious of our... relationship. You might want to keep a look our for him."
"About that, after this, he may not go for the plan that I had though of.... it's already been hard to persuade him to not go for the kill, and now, I think it's the only way he'll go. He's very stubborn that way."
"I'll pass that along. I must be getting back to McGonagall's office. There will be no classes tomorrow as everything gets sorted out and we find out who is actually dead, or captured." With that, he left the three teenagers in the room alone.
"Blaise, can I borrow some clothes?"
"Sure, Draco." The two men then went up to his room to get the healed Malfoy situated.
Hermione contemplated finding a way to let Pansy know that Malfoy was okay, but she decided that while she was more sympathetic to the girl now, she still didn't like her. And she wanted to have her way with him before his girlfriend showed up.
