Chapter 36
Harry paced back and forth outside the hospital wing running his hands through his hair. Every once in a while he would briefly stop and close his eyes breathing in deeply. Finally Draco grabbed his arm and said, “Harry stop it! Your pacings making me dizzy.”
“Huh? Oh I’m sorry Draco I am just so worried about Ali.”
Draco pushed away from the wall that he had been leaning on and walked closer to his brother-in-law. “Harry I get that you are worried but you need to calm down. Hell, I’m her husband how do you think this is on me? Plus, Ali walked into the wing and she will walk right back out. Merlin, man she’s MY wife and you are more worried than I am so chill.”
Harry glared at Draco then realized that he was right. Ali may be his sister but Draco was the one with the right to lose it and if he wasn’t then Harry couldn’t either. “I’m sorry Draco. Your marriage is so new that I forget that it’s not my place to be frantic anymore. She has been my responsibility for so long that I tend to forget that she has you now.”
Draco placed his hand on Harry’s shoulder, “No Harry it is still your place to worry. I can’t nor do I want to compete with your place in her life. Fact of the matter is that you can protect her far better than I can but in this instance trust me here. Ali will be fine.”
“True and I will. I just want you to know Draco that I will protect her with my life.”
Draco looked away quickly as his eyes filled with tears. Hearing a sniff he turned and looked at Harry shocked to see tears falling from his own eyes. Letting Harry see him cry he grabbed his brother-in-law in a hug and whispered softly, “I know you will Harry and I trust you to protect her while you guys are fighting. Though I must say if you don’t I’m hexing your bits off in her name,” as he tried to lighten the mood with a joke.
Harry hugged him back, “Oh thanks, I feel so loved here. First Ali and now you. Will I ever be able to reproduce with you two threating my equipment?”
But as soon as the mood lifted it came back full force as Harry thought of the battle he could feel breathing down his neck. He looked at Draco and asked, “What if I can’t Draco? It’s all I can do to protect myself but I know Ali won’t let me face Him alone. What if he hurts her?”
Draco shuddered at the thought of Voldemort hurting Ali, “He won’t Harry you won’t let him.”
Harry didn’t say anything he just cried as Draco held him. He cried for his parents, for Ali’s parents, for Sirius and for Dumbledore. He cried for all the children who had lost parents and for friendships lost. As he cried he was surprised to feel another hand on his shoulder.
“Harry?” the voice said softly.
Draco let go of Harry as he turned to who had spoken. Seeing the visitor he grabbed her in a hug. “Luna! How are you?”
Luna Lovegood smiled her mysterious smile that could make Harry feel like he was in the presence of some other being instead of his misunderstood but dear friend, “I’m fine now Harry. What are you doing here?”
“Getting ready to fight Luna.”
“Finally! Well we are ready to stand behind you Harry just say the word. Malfoy.” she said turning to him.
“Lovegood,” Draco nodded in her direction. Before he could say anything the door opened and two brunette whirlwinds barreled out. Harry grabbed Ali and held her tight. “Are you ok Ice?”
Ali giggled, “I’m fine Ash. Not a scratch on me.” She held her hands up and twirled around in a circle. “See? Fine.”
Harry agreed then stepped back as Ali jumped into Draco’s waiting arms.
As his arms closed around her Draco breathed in the amber smell of her hair and body. He hugged her as tight as he could until she gasped out, “Drac. I can’t breathe. That’s sort of needed you know.”
He loosened his hold just enough and then kissed her. When he pulled away he said to her, “I almost lost you Ali are you ok?”
“I’m fine sweetheart I’m fine.”
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
As Draco and Ali were embracing Luna looked at Harry, “Who is she Harry?"
Hermione answered, “She is Harry’s sister Luna.”
“You have a sister Harry? I didn’t know that.”
“Nobody did Luna and I would appreciate it if you kept it quiet. I don’t want anybody to know. It makes her to big of a target.”
Luna looked confused, “Then why does Malfoy know about her and why is he kissing her and more importantly why was he hugging you?”
Harry chuckled, “Malfoy is good Luna. He is on our side, and as to why he knows about her he lives with her and why he is kissing her is because he loves her. Why was he hugging me? She was hurt and we were both upset and worried so we were comforting each other.”
Just then a large crash was heard breaking Draco and Ali apart. Harry looked around grimly. He knew that sound as well as Hermione did and as he looked her way he saw she knew what it was too. What it meant.
“The war has started. Showtime.”
All five teenagers looked at each other and nodded as they prepared to fight for their way of life.
