Snape turned at the smell of the blood, seeing his godson in dragon form, blood flowing from him from some kind of cutting hex. “Charlie!” he screamed, pointing back at Draco. If the blood was not stopped, Draco would never survive.
The red head gasped as he saw the damage to the dragon, but didn’t waste a moment. He ran towards the injured beast. He would have made it to Draco too, but lost his footing as the ground began to shake again. And then there was another dragon; a huge black beast appeared. Charlie stayed on the ground as the yard erupted in chaos. They had been fighting off wave after wave of Deatheaters, holding their own well as whatever happened in that house was happening, but now the yard full of people, Order member and Deatheater alike, stood in awe. One dragon they were expecting, but when the second appeared, no one knew what was happening.
From deep in the house’s foundation, Voldemort launched spells at the beast trapping him, but he didn’t even flinch as they hit his scaley chest. The black dragon was focused on Voldemort within the hole the destroyed house had left. Flames burst from the black dragon and they could all hear the Dark Lord’s screams. And the screams stopped when the black dragon reached its long neck into the hole and sunk teeth into the Dark Lord.
The air swirled around as Harry beat his wings, taking flight. They could hear Voldemort screaming. His screams became even louder as Harry allowed him to plummet to the earth.
The battle on the lawn ended immediately. The remaining Deatheaters apparated away after shouting threats at the Order members. Charlie made it to his feet and rushed towards Draco, wand drawn to cast healing charms. He only got one off before he was faced with the black dragon with the glowing green eyes as Harry dropped gracefully to the ground, blood dripping from his teeth. “Harry!” Charlie shouted, but Harry was an animal, left to animal instincts at the time and only knowing that the red head was doing something to his mate.
“Harry?” Sirius asked, sliding into place beside Charlie.
“Yes, I’d suspected this,” Hermione said softly. She studied the black dragon looming above her. Harry was weak and wounded. She could tell by the uneasy sway of his body, but she couldn’t determine the problem.
“Ministry officials are arriving!” Snape called.
“Sirius, you have to get out of here!” Remus cried.
“But Harry—“
“Go!” Remus screamed in a panic. Sirius nodded reluctantly and disappeared with a pop.
“I can’t see Draco!” Charlie shouted. “Has the bleeding stopped?”
“It’s slowed,” Moody said pragmatically. “He needs healing. Badly.”
Charlie held up both hands. “Harry!” he screamed, trying to get the black dragon to see him. “Harry, you have to let me get to Draco!” The black dragon hissed at him, but its head looked back, seeing the white dragon collapsed onto the ground and blood still seeping from the wounds. Harry stepped backwards, allowing Charlie access while still guarding his mate. Charlie knew he had a very short leash.
He managed to get off a charm meant to heal Draco when Harry moved again and he was literally blown away by the strong beating of wings. He watched Harry circle once before swooping back down to stand between Draco and the rest of the group.
“Charlie!” Snape shouted. “We need to get to Draco. Harry’s not in his right mind. He—“
Snape didn’t have to finish. Charlie let out a series of quick spells, powerful spells. The black dragon roared with anger and pain, but soon slid to the ground, weak from the attack. The silvery white dragon hissed and growled then, dragging himself to stand between his downed mate and the one who had ‘attacked’ him, but he could barely move. Charlie managed to cast a few more healing charms and one that should have calmed the beast enough to approach.
It didn’t. Both dragons, weak, wounded, and exhausted hissed and growled. Draco let out a blast of flame, forcing the men backwards. They were at a standstill.
Moody charged over to the arriving Aurors, explaining what was going on, getting skeptical glares in return. He did not mention that the dragons were anything more than dragons. Remus, Snape and Charlie huddled together discussing how to how to transport two angry and wounded dragons to Hogwarts.
Ron grabbed Hermione’s wrist and dragged her to the hole just beside the two dragons. “There!” he said, pointing.
Hermione looked at where he was pointing. “Voldemort,” she muttered.
“Moody!” Ron shouted, getting the old Auror’s attention. “You might want to scoop up the trash.”
Moody came lumbering over and jumped directly down into the pit with two young Aurors following. “We’ll take care of this. Snape!” he shouted from his place. “Get these kids back to the school!” He turned to the two Aurors. “You two. Pick up that carcass. We’re heading to the Ministry.”
“What about the dragons?” one of the two young ones asked, looking unsurely at the beasts.
Charlie called down. “I’m in charge of them,” he said. “Charlie Weasley, I’m a dragon researcher registered with the Ministry,” he explained.
The young Auror still looked skeptical. “Stop looking like you think you’re getting duped!” Moody complained. “You’re about to drop the carcass of Voldemort at the feet of the Minister of Magic! Not many people will ever have that to brag about!” The Auror looked pleased, but no less skeptical. Nevertheless, he nodded and did as he was told, lifting the body with a quick spell.
“Come along!” Snape shouted after the Aurors had disappeared with Voldemort’s body and the other Aurors assembled busied themselves with the other dead bodies. Ron and Hermione went straight to his side.
Remus went to Charlie’s side. “This would be much easier if we could get them to transform back to humans.”
“I don’t know how to do that,” Charlie muttered. “I do know how to transport dragons, however. Do me a favor. I’ll wait here with them. Get to a floo and floo my place in Romania. Tell them I need supplies for transport and care of two wounded dragons. Immediately. Transfigure some sort of portkey to get it here and get Dumbledore to get somesort of portkey that will allow me to take them directly to the Forbidden forest.”
“Not Hogwarts?”
“You want to explain this whole mess to the Wizarding World at large?” Charlie scoffed. Remus rolled his eyes at his own stupidity and nodded. But before Remus could leave in order to follow the dragon researcher’s commands, the dragons shimmered in their place and were gone. Charlie moved to approach where they had lain, but was forced back by a gust of wind. The dragons were gone.
