Surprise!

___________

41.

Five minutes.

Draco was pacing Potter's apartment, pretty much beating a path into the carpet. He was half listening to the last minute reminders of his father, Harry, and everyone else who had assembled into the living area.  They were all watching him pace, not commenting on his sluggish movements or how little they liked this situation.

Four minutes.

That hex still was bothering him, and now as the time was approaching, Draco felt himself growing more and more irritated, no doubt a by product of the hex.  Draco thought about Henry Serpens and how he missed a summons earlier. Serpens was declared suspect number one. Oliver Stanley had vanished, making him suspect number two.

Three minutes.

Draco ran down the list of things he had to do once summoned. He needed to keep his wand as long as possible, although that was already a lost battle. Being summoned as he was, in the way he was, he was more than likely going to be attacked instantaneously.

Draco could do wandless magic to a certain degree, but magic made the situation even more unstable, and he was going to try and avoid that as much as possible. Nothing would please him more than beating the son of a bitch to a bloody pulp with his bare hands anyway.

Two minutes.

His next move would be to secure Hermione, get her away from him, and try desperately to get her wand back, which was more than likely concealed in the apartment or on Serpens. Moving from there, the official next step was to send a patronus to Harry to illuminate where exactly he landed in the apartment. That was the weak spot, the area where magic could be used with minimal damage.

It would help to have reinforcements, Harry said. We could capture him more easily.

Draco didn’t respond, but he didn’t want the bastard captured. He wanted him dead.

One minute.

Draco glanced at the clock, but all he saw was Hermione’s bloody and bruised face the night she was taken. Or worse, because he dreamed it only a couple hours ago, Hermione lying lifeless in a puddle of blood.

Shaking his head, Draco tried to get rid of the picture of his head. Rubbing his eyes, his focused on something less disabling, like the song he finally got to hear. The song off of her IPod (Harry finally informed him) from the other night.  “It’s as easy as 1-2-1-2-3-4

There’s only 1 thing, 2 do, 3 words, 4 you…I Love You.” Draco mumbled it under his breath, earning a sharp look from Ginny.

Draco ignored her and relaxed his body. He knew from Blaise’s mother not to fight it or it would make the summons even worse. Draco experienced a white-hot pain in his growing in chest.

He gritted his teeth, gave a mock salute to Harry, and let the pain consume him.
