Planning
CHAPTER 41: Planning
Harry Potter nearly fell out of his chair when his secretary said that Lucius Malfoy was waiting to see him. What in the world would bring Lucius to the Ministry to see him when he saw him on a slightly more than regular basis socially?
“Send him right in.” Harry told the older woman who tended to every detail of Harry’s professional life and frequently reminded him of little details he shouldn’t forget about his personal life as well.
When Lucius walked in Harry shifted uncomfortably behind his desk. It seemed strange for him to be sitting there in the seat of power with someone like Lucius on the other side. It seemed off balance to Harry so he got up and came around the desk to sit with Lucius. He didn’t have the commanding presence that Lucius did and felt a little more comfortable sitting beside him.
“Is Mione alright?” Harry asked as the two wizards settled into their chairs.
“Yes, she’s perfect.” Lucius smiled when he talked about his wife, he couldn’t help himself.
“What brings you all the way to my office?” Harry asked.
“I want to marry Hermione.” Lucius said.
“You are already married to her.” Harry said in confusion.
“I mean I want to hold a wedding. Very small, just a few friends and business associates. We already had the ball, so this will be something intimate and elegant. We didn’t have a ceremony, they put the rings on us and said here you go, you are married. I thought perhaps she would like to have something formal, some pictures and memories to go with it.” Lucius said. “And I thought it would be nice to start fresh with a good beginning.”
“Why did you come here? We see each other often enough that you two could have just mentioned it over dinner.”
“Ah, well it’s sort of a surprise.” Lucius said. “I wanted to see if you would assist in the arrangements.”
“Lucius, do you know nothing about me? I’m probably the most socially awkward wizard in our world I can’t even plan my day, much less an event.” Harry didnt even know where a person would start when planning a wedding. Ginny, Mione and Molly had planned his wedding, all he needed to do was remember the date and time.
“I have hired someone to do the planning. I came to ask you to be the best man.” Lucius said a bit uncomfortably. “I don’t really have any close friends, and with Severus and Draco both gone….well I just thought that maybe you would stand up with us.”
“I would be honored to.” Harry said surprised. “I’m a bit astonished you would ask me.”
“Hermione loves you and you cared for her during our separation, I owe a lot to you.”
“Wow, Lucius, thank you. It muse hurt like hell for you to admit that.” Harry laughed.
“You have no idea.” Lucius laughed with him.
“So, when is the big day?” Harry asked.
“Next Friday.” Lucius laid an invitation on Harry’s desk with the details.
“The two of you have court next Friday.” Harry said.
“I am well aware of that. Now, if you will excuse me, I am meeting your wife for lunch.”
“You are?”
“Yes, I am taking her to the High Wizard’s Tea Room, she seems very excited.” Lucius said as he stood and straightened his robes.
“She would be, she loves fancy restaurants. Better you than me!” Harry said laughing. “I can’t stand them, too many forks for me to remember.”
“To each his own I suppose.” Lucius said.
After he said goodbye to Harry he met Ginny Potter in the tea room for lunch. She of course was crazy about the plan. Lucius spent almost two hours listening to her go on and on about how terribly romantic it was. After finishing their meals, Lucius escorted her to the dressmaker and made arrangements for her gown to be billed to his account.
Once he had arranged for a bridal party, chose a gown for her, and finished up the last of the details he sent out the invitations, making certain to note on each one that the bride was completely unaware of the plans and that he would appreciate their discretion. He just hoped that she would be happy about it.
