Chapter 34
When they landed they looked around themselves on watch and found themselves inside the Hogwarts borders near Hagrid’s hut.
As Harry and Hermione led the way to the school Draco touched Harry’s arm and whispered, “How the Hell did you apparate us inside the wards?”
“Do you really want to know, Draco?” Harry asked of him as he stood there like a completely different person.
A person ready to embrace who he was, a person ready to embrace death if it came to that. And in that moment Draco was afraid of him, of a man he had come to think of as brother. Because he was finally seeing the Harry that always faced Voldemort year after year. The Harry that came back year after year to prove that he wouldn’t be beat by some snake-faced half animal, half person seeking immortality because he was afraid to die. The Harry that wasn’t afraid to die if it meant saving the world. The Harry that the world looked to, that he had scorned for so long.
In that moment he knew he didn’t want to know how, he would just take things as they came. Harry must have seen this decision in his expression because he nodded and said, “Come on, we don’t want to leave the girls alone for long, do we?”
As the four entered the school slowly and carefully they were on full alert. Hermione and Draco faced the way they were going while Harry and Ali watched their backs. The four tried to hide behind statues and hangings whenever they thought they heard someone coming. Even though they were on full alert and they were as highstrung as horses ready to bolt the trip to the seventh floor where the Room of Requirement could always be found by those who needed it was surprisingly undisturbed and uneventful. All four counted their blessings of this little reprieve because it meant just one less thing to worry about in the long run.
Once they stood in front of the wall across from the tapestry of Barnabas the Barmy Harry turned to Draco and said, “Well, this is where you come in Drac my man. Go for it.”
Draco nodded and stepped forward. He stood there thinking for a moment and then began walking in front of the wall three times until a door appeared. Once the door had appeared he grabbed it and swung the door open.
When they walked into the room it looked like it had the many times Draco had used it. A room the size of a cathedral with the appearance of a city, its towering walls built of objects hidden by thousands of long-gone students.
“So, what way Drac?”
“This way,” he replied already passing the stuffed troll and the Vanishing Cabinet he had mended last year with such disastrous consequences. He then hesitated, looking up and down aisles of junk trying to remember where he had to go next.
“I don’t like this idea, but it seems to be our only choice…We need to split up, it’s around here somewhere. We’re looking for…If you find it yell,” Draco replied looking at the group.
“Your right its not safe to split but it’s our only bet,” smiled Harry grimly, “Draco head straight. Ali go to the right. Mione go left and I’ll go kittycorner.”
“Okay,” everyone replied and headed off.s spotted the cup there. It just lay between two huge totems glistening gold with the crest in the center. He called for the others and as they came close Draco asked how they were going to destroy it.
As Harry stepped forward to grab it to bring it to a position so they could get at it better they all heard, “Hold it, Potter.”
They turned around and came face to face with Crabbe and Goyle standing shoulder to shoulder wands pointed at them.
“Draco, you traitor siding with the Golden Boy and the Mudblood now are you?” Goyle grunted.
“Shut it Goyle! They’re my family now.”
“Then won’t Voldemort enjoy torturing all of you. Now come along.”
“I don’t think so you brainless neandthals,” Ali spoke up from behind Draco whom had shoved her behind him when he spotted his old goons like Harry had to Hermione.
“Oh, another Mudblood is it?” grunted Crabbe eyeing Ali.
As Harry stepped forward with his wand trained on Crabbe he growled, “Don’t look at her you disgusting snake follower.”
“Why you…Descendo,” he yelled pointing his wand at a huge stack of books and statues making them fall right at the girls.
Draco quickly cast a Protego shield and eyed them both, “Why you Asses!” He yelled at them beginning to fire off a Stunner.
Before he could though a billowing noise came to his ears singling one of two goons had shot off a Feindfyre spell which was aimed right at Ali. Before the boys or Hermione could do anything it surrounded her and she began to scream in pain.
As she fell to her knees suddenly the fire began to freeze around her without her thinking. The boys out of completely shock and fear for Ali’s life lunged on Crabbe and Goyle and beat them until they were unconscious and only Hermione’s screams of “Ali, get out of there! Harry, Draco do something!”
Once they tied the two up they turned to the girls and Harry held out his hand to the fire. Making a pushing motion to the floor he distinguished the flames and Draco ran to Ali’s side to help her up trying to check on her as well. As they all stepped towards where the door was Harry suddenly remembered the cup that they had come for. That he had dropped when he attacked Crabbe and Goyle.
As he reached for it he saw that a bloodlike substance, dark and tarry, seemed to be leaking from the cup. Just then it began to suddenly vibrate violently, then break apart in his hands, and as it did so, he thought he heard the faintest, most distant scream of pain, echoing not from the grounds or the castle, but from the thing that had just fragmented in his fingers.
“One more down,” he sighed and then just as suddenly he put the pieces in his pocket and took Ali’s other side to help her out of the room with Draco on her other and Hermione following. Hermione cast a levitating spell and had the two unconscious boys following them.
“We’re going to Pomfrey, NOW!” Draco growled.
As they got to Pomfrey being as quick but careful as they could Hermione said she’d go with Ali in to see Pomfrey while the boys stood outside the Hospital Wing and guarded the wing and the two goons.
With this decided the two went in to see Pomfrey.
