Never what it seems

Thank you for the great reviews! I've incorporated some of them into this chapter.

There will be another chapter with more witch interactions and Dumbledore will make an appearance shortly as some of you wanted.

Hermione had been avoiding Harry for the last few days. At first, he had believed her excuses of "studying so I don't fall behind" but then he realised, she had never had a problem studying with him around before.

So why was she always sneaking around now, avoiding him?

He was just about to cast the spell when Ginny walked in. 

"Hey, Harry! I was wondering if you wanted to have a game of…what are you doing?" she asked, spotting his raised wand.

"I…uh…" he had never been good with lying, "I was about to listen to Hermione's conversation in the next room".

At Ginny's raised eyebrow he defensively added, "Luna's over there today and Hermione's been acting really secretive lately. I just…want to make sure everything's okay", he finished lamely as Ginny gave him a look of disbelief.

"Alright then. Teach it to me", she said and at Harry's look of surprise added, "She's my friend too!"

"Fine", he relented and made room for her on the bed.

With a practiced hand, he cast the spell as Ginny gasped in wonder at her suddenly incredible hearing.

"I hear her", Ginny whispered to Harry and he nodded. He had heard Hermione's voice as well.

Raised in argument, it sounded like.

"No! How many times do I have to tell you, Luna? There is no way I can…"

Luna's quieter voice spoke up, cutting across Hermione's words, "It's easy. Just cup it and squeeze, gently. Like milking a cow".

"That's it", Luna's words of encouragement were soft and Harry flinched when he heard a moan.

He glanced over at Ginny, whose mouth was hanging open in shock. Obviously he wasn't the only one to think they were…

"Perfect, just rub a bit faster and…yes, perfect!" Luna's excitement could be heard in her voice and they could clearly hear Hermione's gasps.

"Merlin, Luna", Hermione said after a few moments of silence, "That was absolutely incredible!"

They heard Luna whisper, "I can show you again, if you like" and Harry ended the spell.

He looked over at Ginny, his face blushing red and realised she didn't seem half as embarrassed as him.

In fact, she was smiling.

"What's so funny?" he asked her, trying to not remember what he had just heard.

"It's just girl things", she said mysteriously as she left the room, leaving him even more confused than before.

Ginny was glad Harry didn't know how aroused she was as she walked towards the room Hermione and Luna were in.

Of course, she had known after a minute or two what they were talking about but a part of her wished it had been what Harry suspected.

She opened the door to see them clutching small fairies. 

"I told her about the Trestlers but she didn't believe me", Luna said as she saw Ginny, "Said there was no scientific proof of their existence".

"Well…you know. You have a habit of believing in things that don't really…" Hermione trailed off as she saw Luna's glare.  "Ah…well…either way, it's amazing that they multiply themselves when you rub their heads!"

Ginny laughed as she saw Hermione's excitement. 

"Yeah, Trestlers are quite incredible creatures. Closely related to fairies. Can I have a go?" Ginny added as she walked over to them, still chuckling to herself as she thought of poor Harry.
