Chapter 4: Punishment for the sake of peace

Sitting in Dumbledore’s chambers, as far away from each other as they could, Draco and Harry glared at each other in fury.

When finally the Headmaster graced the boys with his presence, he merely sat down leisurely behind his desk and looked from one boy to the other.

"I have been informed by Professor Snape that you two were fighting in class. ” He directed his eyes to Harry who looked a little more responsive than Draco. Dumbledore looked from underneath his glasses at Harry who opened to speak, but at just a glance from Draco sneering at him he decided not to and closed his mouth again.

But out of respect for his Headmaster he nodded, then looked down on his hands like a sullen child.

Draco mostly felt annoyed with this whole situation and chose not to speak as to not seem suspicious about defending himself.

"Would you care as to tell me what this is all about?” Dumbledore then asked as he saw no one wanted to speak. Draco sneaked a peak at Harry only to find that Harry was already looking at him, curiously.

Those big green eyes, looking so innocently at him had a peculiar look he couldn’t quite define.

Dumbledore watched them closely. He quickly drew breath to draw attention to himself making both boys look up at him as he stood up from behind his desk. “Well, I suppose if no one is going to speak I’m going to have to give you both detention for two months.”

Harry’s mouth fell open and his eyes widened in shock.

"Two months?!” he exclaimed “But Sir, that’s unfair, I didn’t even do anything!”

"I knew it” Draco muttered, looking away from Harry.

"What, Malfoy?” Harry said irritated.

"I knew you’d blame it all on me, as if you didn’t do anything. ”

Draco looked not at all surprised.

"But I didn't do anything!” he exclaimed, unbelieving of this classmate of his who had been responsible for this whole thing in his opinion.

Dumbledore just watched this little scene take action in order to get some information out of them, and to try to understand the hatred these two had for each other.

"You didn’t do anything?” Draco said incredulously.

"You didn’t DO ANYTHING?!” the blond boy said again with emphasis.

"No I didn’t Malfoy and you know it” Harry said sternly.

"Oh do I, Potter? Well, I guess I just jumped up on myself to beat myself up then didn’t I?” Steely gray eyes peered into Harry’s.

Damn it, Harry thought, he actually had attacked Malfoy without thinking.

Harry remained silent and looked sorrowfully at Dumbledore who slowly sat back down in his chair again.

"Did you attack Mr. Malfoy, Harry?” Dumbledore asked plain and simple without judgment in his eyes or his voice.

Harry bit his lower lip, looking sullen again. “I guess I did” he replied.

Dumbledore raised his eyebrows and Harry knew what that meant.

"Yes Sir, I did attack Malfoy” He corrected.

"And Mr. Malfoy, did you cast a spell on your Potions Master, using Mr. Potter’s wand?”

Forced to look at Dumbledore, Draco couldn’t lie. He merely sneered a tiny bit and then resigned his attitude with a “I did”.

Dumbledore nodded in understanding and then cleared his throat.

"As we do not take lightly on fighting and misuse of spells upon teachers or students at Hogwarts, both of you will be punished by serving one month’s detention. ”

Both boys looked appalled by this punishment and would look even more so when they heard the reason for it.

"This is of course with the intention of making you two work together as a team, to help each other. Fail to do so and you will spend another month closely together, and then another, until you have learned to be civil to each other. ”

Neither Harry nor Draco was happy with this punishment, to be close to your enemy and pretend to be friends, this they could both agree on would suck.
