I don't own Harry Potter, or his sphere. They are Rowling and her people's property. I make no money for writing this.
Chapter Three: Try your wings
Warning: This story will be a Yaoi story; if you don't know what that is, or simply don't like it... Please, go away and bother someone else. I've warned you, so don't pester me later.
Pairings: SSHP (later on... Harry needs to grow up first), SBRL
Summary: What if Sirius and Remus got custody of Harry, instead of the Dursley's? This is a story full of love, drama and hopefully some humour (depending on if you understand my humour... ^^;)
Chapter Three: Try your wings
As the caterpillar becomes a butterfly, a new adventure begins. Fear of taking the first leap out into the world; a wish to stay in the safety of the cocoon. Learning to fly takes its time, but luckily you can practise before you fly away.
As the preparations for adulthood starts with school, there is a long way left of this journey.
~O~
Before stepping onto the train, Harry took a deep breath. It was going to be fine. It wasn't like it was for the poor muggleborns who were stepping into a whole new world, knowing no one and nothing. He at least had Ron, Fred, George, Percy, Neville and Cedric. And in worst cases, he knew Albus Dumbledore quite well. The Principal often came to visit him, Rem and Siri. He seemed to have taken an interest in Harry. Why, Harry did not know.
Either way, he was quite sure it was all going to be fine. He hoped.
I wonder what house I'll be in. I know Siri wants me to be a Gryffindor. The things I have gotten through the years speak it quite clearly. Things with lions, red and gold. Gryffindor's colours and animal. Sirius has never been known to be discreet exactly
Remus, on the other hand, says he doesn't care, but as he is a lot quieter about his feelings and thoughts, I know that he does. A lot of pressure, but at least I know they'll support me wherever I wind up. Even if it's Slytherin. As Remus always says when we talk about Hogwarts; it's not your house that defines you - it's your choices. He probably only prays that I won't join the twins in their escapades and do as Sirius would have.
"Harry! In Here!"
Harry followed Ron's voice to a cabin and sat down next to him.
"I haven't seen you in three whole bloody long days! It's been too long!" Ron blinked at him with a smile.
"Sirius got a bit depressed about my upcoming departure and dragged me and Remus to Rome for a few days", Harry chuckled at the memory of the panicking Sirius, whom had even suggested they ran off to some other country. Which they did, but sadly only for vacation.
"Tell me about it! Mom spent yesterday whining about her youngest baby boy leaving the nest. She forced me and the others to sit and watch through her photo albums with her. Dad was at work and managed to escape mom's talk about babies, teeth's, toys and such. She said she was going to firecall Bill and Charlie and ask about grandchildren. I think mom needs someone to take care of and coo over. But Rome! How was that? The food any good?" Ron sighed dreamily, as usual thinking with his belly.
"Oh, poor Bill and Charlie!" Harry shivered. Children were something way into the future. He was still a child himself. "Rome was amazing! The Colosseum was really cool. They said it was built for-"
"For entertainment. The Roman emperor knew a happy people would want him on the throne for a long time, so he gave out food and such and had slaves build the Colosseum. The people of Rome came there to watch animals and slaves battle to death. A horrible thing, however, a very smart decision. He remained on the throne for a long time, if I do recall it correctly." A female voice continued for him.
They looked up to the door, where a girl with bushy brown hair stood.
"Who are you?" Ron asked.
"Oh, sorry. I'm Hermione Granger. A boy has lost his frog, and I was wondering if you've seen it. Have you?" She stared at them imploringly.
"Neville lost his frog again?" Ron asked and rolled his eyes.
"Again? But yes. And do not roll your eyes; you've probably lost things before as well!" She glared at him.
"Not that repeatedly." Ron said, but shrinking back into his seat when her glare intensified.
"So, who are you?" She asked, turning towards Harry, who was scratching his forehead. But before he had a chance to reply, she gasped. "Are you Harry Potter? I've read about you! I'm sorry, I shouldn't be intruding, but may I see your scar? Please?"
Harry lifted his bang, knowing he would have to do that a lot in the upcoming years. He had gotten quite used to it by now though; he had grown up in the Wizarding world after all, and Sirius and Remus could not hide and protect him from everything. Even though they tried.
"Wow. Impressive! So, have you boys been practicing any spells from our textbooks? I have tried a few and everything has worked out fine. I can't wait for the classes to begin! I think I'm going to be in Gryffindor or Ravenclaw, but it doesn't really matter. Do you know what house you're going to be in?" She asked, eyeing them both curiously.
"Err I'll probably be in Gryffindor, all of my family was. And are. Got three brother's there right now." Ron said, his cheeks a little red. He was really nervous. What if he wasn't a Gryffindor? He had to be. Family reputation and all.
"Oh, you are from a Wizard family! Then you probably know a lot of spells already, don't you? My parents are dentists. Quite a shocker they got when that letter came! So did I, but it got better when I got into the bookstore in Diagon Alley. Riveting! I wanted to buy everything, but my parents said we couldn't carry it all. So, Harry, what house do you think you'll be in?" She smiled at him encouragingly.
"Umm Gryffindor? I don't know." Harry shrugged his shoulder and smiled nervously back at her.
"Okay." She smiled. "I think so too. I best go back to Neville. He was getting desperate. See you later." And just as suddenly as she came, she was gone.
"Woah. Talk active girl." Ron sighed, and after Harry replied with a nod, they continued to discuss Rome. Harry bought candy for them, they changed into their Hogwarts robes and when the train stopped, they got off at the station. The time had just flown by.
Hagrid was standing at the platform, calling out for the first years. He smiled at Ron and Harry and asked them if they'd had a good summer. Not long thereafter, they were in the boats going towards Hogwarts. The castle looked magnificent in the moonlight, and they were all amazed.
Before they knew it, they were standing outside the doors of the Great Hall, waiting for Professor McGonagall to let them in for sorting. A blond boy turned towards Harry, who was talking to Ron about Quidditch and what positions on the team would fit them best.
"So it is true then. Harry Potter has come to Hogwarts."
It was more of a statement than a question, so Harry just shrugged, ignoring the gasps that came from the people around him. He continued to talk to Ron as if nothing had interrupted their conversation. Ron knew Harry preferred to ignore it, so he followed his league.
"Did you not hear me? I said "
"I heard what you said. It was a statement. A statement doesn't require a reply." Harry said, not even bothering to turn to face the boy. He wasn't going to encourage people to focus on his fame. It was not his fault he managed to kill Voldemort somehow; why should he have to deal with something that happened long before he could even remember?
"Get off your high horses and face me." Looking quite insulted when Harry continued to talk to Ron, the boy grabbed his shoulder and turned him around. "Look, I do not care for people who don't know their place. But if you are smart, you will accept my hand in friendship. I am Draco Malfoy." The boy held out his hand expectantly. "I can show you who is important and deserving of your time. Introduce you to the right people. What do you say?"
Harry stared at the boy, before he started chuckling, earning a glare from the boy in front of him.
"Look, Malfoy, I think I can judge who deserve my time, and respect for that matter, all on my own. So, why don't you just scurry off and annoy someone else? My friend and I were discussing Quidditch. Shoo." He waved his hand dismissively at the boy, who indignantly sniffed and turned away, muttering under his breath.
"Wow! Harry, that was so cool." Ron smiled at him. Harry smiled back, and was just about to reply, when Minerva McGonagall came and opened the doors. She was holding onto a hat in one hand.
They followed her up towards the staff table and looked on as person after person was sorted into each of the houses. Ron wound up in Gryffindor, mumbling a thank Merlin under his breath. Harry had felt quite nervous, but had luckily wound up there as well. After arguing with the hat for a few minutes.
Siri must never know. He'll be so glad when he hears about Gryffindor and it'd only diminish that happiness.
As they sat down to eat, Harry looked up at the staff table, letting his eyes trail from person to person. They stopped at a black haired man, intrigued. There was something
But he couldn't place it.
Then the obsidian pools turned towards him, meeting his emerald with a raised eyebrow. Harry took a deep breath. Weird. What was that feeling in his chest?
Recognition. And something more. But what?
Harry shrugged and turned away, absently scratching his scar, which had began to hurt slightly when his eyes left the man. He continued to talk to Ron as if nothing had happened, but something deep within him knew that it had.
A/N: Thank for all the reviews! I went through a surgery a few weeks ago, and, well, that is one of the reasons this chapter took so long. But, it is here now and I hope you liked it :)
Also, two voting things; 1. Is Harry and Sev going to be mates in some way (not necessarily creatures )? and 2. Will Sev be Harry's first?
....no wait, three voting things; 3. How old is Harry going to be? In Sweden, where I live, we get to have legal sex at 15, so if no one suggest otherwise, I'm going after that or 16 ;)
