Chapter 4
A/N:
Narcissas Sister it was very subtle but after the kiss I tried to make it clear that their relationship had changed, but they are taking this slow.

On to the Chapter 4:
Remus and Hermione were sitting in front of the fireplace enjoying a cup of tea and talking. It had been a few days since they kissed for the first time. They were taking thing slow.
“Hermione, are you going to try and open your own potions shop?” Remus asked out of the blue.
“Yes, I think I will, but it is going to take awhile before I can open a store front. There is so much work to do. I’m not even sure where to start.”
Remus laughed. “I’m sure once you get started you won’t be able to stop until you have your own store front.”
“The first thing I need to do is find a place to set up a proper potions lab. Until I have that I can’t really do anything.”
“Have you thought about adding an addition on here?”
“I have. I’m just not sure when I should start. By the time, I hire a contractor, draw a design, and pull all the permits, it will be very close to winter. I don’t want construction going on when it is snowing outside. I think I am going to have to wait ‘til next spring before I start construction.”
“That is a long time to wait.”
“Yes, but it will give me time to do research, come up with a business plan, and secure the proper permits. For now, my temporary lab will have to suffice.”
Remus smiled at her—some things never changed. Hermione never did anything without researching every angle first. Since Hermione quit her job, all she had done was read. Yes, she read various subjects, but she never went out socially. Remus had never seen Hermione go out on a date. He wondered if she had ever had a date.
“Hermione, can I ask you something rather personal?”
“I guess.”
“Have you even been on a date?”
She was taken aback for a minute. Oh dear, when was the last date she had? “Not since the war. I dated Victor Krum for a little bit, but we broke it off because I didn’t want a long distance relationship.”
“Wasn’t that in your fourth year? You haven’t been on a date in six years.”
“It wasn’t important to me at the time. I was so worried about the war and keeping those I loved safe. Dating was the last thing on my mind.”
“What about after the war?” Remus asked.
“No, I never met anyone I wanted to date, except you,” she whispered the last two words.
Remus bit his lip. He needed to know but was hesitant to ask his next question. He stumbled a bit with the words. “Are you a virgin?”
Hermione sat in silent for several seconds, shocked by his boldness, but if they wanted an honest relationship, she needed to start opening up to him more. “Yes, I am. Does that bother you?”
Hermione heard a slight intake of breath. “No it doesn’t,” he whispered.
Hermione was cautious to ask him about his sexual history. She didn’t want to bring up Tonks, but if they were going to be honest with each other, she needed to know.
Hermione took a deep breath and asked him about his past history.
He smiled slightly. “Of course, there was Tonks. There was a girl when I was at Hogwarts. Her name was Sabrina. She was in Ravenclaw and a year older than me. We dated only of a few short months, but she was my first. Then, there was Sirius,” he said the last part so quickly that Hermione didn’t catch it at first.
“Did you love Sab… Did you say Sirius?” she said in disbelief.
Remus closed his eyes and waited for the shouting. Even Snuffles raised his head waiting for something to happen.
“Yes, I did. We were involved on and off for years.”
“Oh.” That was all Hermione could think to say. She knew that Remus and Sirius were close, but she never realized how close.
“Are you okay with that?” he asked. She was quiet. He couldn’t see her face to find out what kind of expression she had. Was she disgusted with him, intrigued, or horrified? So he waited for her to answer him.
“Yes, I think so. Maybe a little shocked, but I’m fine. That was not what I expected you to say.”
“What did you expect?” he pressed, truly wanting to know the answer.
“I’m not sure. You two were very close. Maybe if I was looking harder, I would have realized it.”
Remus laughed. “We were careful to make sure nobody knew; although, I think Severus suspected something.”
She looked at him thoughtfully. “Thank you for sharing a part of your past with me.”
“Hermione, I will tell you anything you want to know.”
“I didn’t want to make you distress you.”
“I think I am past being miserable. They will always be a part of my life, but they wouldn’t want me to stop living. I think Sirius and Tonks would be happy that we found each other.”
Snuffles took the opportunity to jump in their laps. “I would also have to agree with you on that,” Snuffles said cheekily.
Hermione petted his soft fur. “Do you know something we don’t?”
He gave her an innocent doggie grin. “Whatever do you mean, Mistress?”
“I think he is more than our familiar. I think he was sent to us,” Remus mused.
“I think you are right. Maybe that is why both of us can hear him?”
They sat there for a couple more hours talking and petting Snuffles until it was very late and time for bed.
**
Harry, Luna, and Ron came over to discuss the wedding plans. The wedding was swiftly approaching and they only had a scant two months. Remus agreed to stand up in Harry and Luna’s wedding with a little convincing from Hermione.
“You are already going to be there, and Harry really wants you in the wedding. It would mean so much it him.”
“I’m just a little worried about walking down the aisle.”
“You will have Snuffles, and you will be escorting Ginny.”
“It would mean so much to him.”
“Okay, I will be in the wedding party.”
“Really? I figured I would have to convince you more.”
“I have been debating it for a while. I want to be there for Harry, but I was just nervous about being in front of people.”
“Are you still nervous?” she asked.
“Yes, but knowing that you will be there makes me less nervous.”
Hermione smiled at him. “Are you going to the bachelor party?”
“No, I think there are some things I need to stay away from. Ron let it slip that they were going to a strip club. I just would not be comfortable there.”
“Of course Ron would have it at a strip club. Doesn’t he have more tact than that?”
“I’m not sure that Harry was up for the idea. I heard a slight quiver in his voice when Ron slipped out where they were going.”
“When were you discussing this?”
“When you and Luna went to your bedroom and tried on your bridesmaid dress.”
Hermione smiled, she was thrilled to see the dress that Luna picked out for her. It was apple red chiffon with spaghetti straps, and an empire waist. It was floor length and had a matching wrap. When she tried it on, she twirled in front of the mirror. Luna told her she looked incredible in the dress.
“Oh.” Hermione thought for a minute. “If he really doesn’t want to go, or afterwards, they could always come here and have a poker night or something. Luna’s bachelorette party is the same night, and we are staying overnight at the spa, so I will not be here. ”
Remus thought for a minute. It would be nice to be at the bachelor party, but a strip club was not appealing to Remus. “I’ll run it by Harry and see what he thinks?”
Hermione smiled. Remus was breaking out of his depression. He never would have thought to entertain guests. Things were changing, but he still didn’t leave the house. She thought maybe if she got him out once that he would be more inclined to continue to do so.
Hermione had a thought. “I need to go to the market. Why don’t you come with me?”
Remus hesitated. Hermione had been trying to get him to go out shopping with her ever since he moved in. Maybe it was time he reintroduced himself to the world. “Okay, when do you want to leave?”
Hermione’s eyebrows rose in disbelief. “In a few minutes, we will take Snuffles. The market allows seeing-eye dogs. He just needs a special leash for you to hold him. I think I can transfigure one out of the leash I bought at the pet store.” She was pleased. Remus just took the final steps to healing. Hermione was thrilled. Snuffles, was excited too!
