A big thanks to Citten, that last review you sent me really kicked me in the bum to start writing again so a big thanks to you and all the cyber cookies to you.

Chapter 4

’Everywhere I\'m looking now

I\'m surrounded by your embrace

Baby I can see your halo

You know you\'re my saving grace’

Halo - Beyonce

A muggle contraption was sitting in front of Draco, something Hermione loved and used often. It was hers; he could just imagine her fingers brushing lightly and urgently over the keys. She hated those quick-quotes quill she had told him once, and that a type writer felt better under her fingers (Even though it was out dated, and he had offered to buy her something called a computer.)

He lightly ran his fingers over the keys, imagining he was touching her fingers. When he opened his eyes and looked at his fingers, they were lightly covered in dust. Slowly he rose from her seat, slid it back into place and walked down the hallway, to the door he had been avoiding for too long.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to see what was held behind those doors, in fact the mere thought of what was behind that door made his heart race and his breathe to come in short gulps. Of course he had been in there many times but not for this reason. His fingers hovered at the door; he was breathing fast, trying to get as much air into his lungs as possible. He turned the knob and quietly entered.

It was a large room, with very little decoration. It had hundreds rows, very much like a library but instead of book cases they were little sections of walls that held the many ancestors of the Malfoy clan. The room was full of complex and simple spells that allowed the portraits to exist with very little worry of dust, fading or ware. When someone in the family passed away their portrait would appear here, if no space was available for the newcomer a new wall would appear.

Draco walked slowly towards where he knew Hermione’s portrait hung, his head hung low like a child getting ready to receive a punishment. When he stood before it, he almost didn’t want to look up.

“Draco?” Hermione asked softly. Tears burned his eyes again; his heart was tearing out of his chest. He slowly raised his eyes and saw her.

Her hair was pulled away from her face; she was wearing comfortable clothing sitting in a rather comfy looking chair… in their library. ‘Of course, I should have guessed’ he almost laughed at the portrait.

“I’m so sorry…it should have been me” He whispered in between sobs. He dropped to his knees in front of the wall.

“Well, I don’t think you would have looked half as pretty as I did pregnant; although sea horse males do carry the children” She laughed at herself.

He looked up at her disbelief “This is not funny Hermione; I’m here alone…without you! What am I going to do?”

She looked down at him warmly, “Oh, honey. I’ll always be with you, here and in your heart. You know, I will always love you” Smiling she placed her hand up against the painting, which looked strange; it was like she was touching glass, a barrier she couldn’t get through. He raised his hand and placed it against hers, but instead of the amazingly soft skin he loved to feel press against him all he felt was scratchy paint and canvas.
