Chapter 4
The sound of apparition woke up Draco from his afternoon nap. He looked to the side to see his house elf Tinky Winky staring at him. “Tinky Winky is sorry for waking the Master up but Tinky Winky has come to say that dinner will be ready soon.” Draco nodded and mouthed thank you. The house elf popped out with a smile. He tried to sit up, but a heavy weight pushed him back down. Looking down, he saw his two children on both sides of him.
He looked at his beautiful little princess. How could she be suffering so much for so long and he not notice it. Cassandra was always clever and thoughtful though. If she didn’t want him to notice something, then she would do whatever necessary to make sure he didn’t.
He lightly brushed his hand over her blonde hair. Cassy sighed and moved closer into the embrace. With her eyes closed, she looked just like a younger version of his mother but when they opened, you could clearly tell that she was Hermione Granger’s child. He gently stroked her hair. His daughter was not going back to the house. He didn’t care what Hermione said. Until she got her shit together, Cassandra Anne Malfoy was staying at Malfoy Manor.
His hand continued its ministrations as he turned to look at his little boy. Scorpius was just as playful and innocent as he had been when he was a child. His father had put an end to that sweet innocence at an early age. No longer was his mother allowed to coddle him or tuck him in at night. No Draco was to start acting like a Malfoy man. He vowed from the day that Scorpius was born, that he would be more of a father to Scorpius than his own father was to him.
His son was currently curled on his side, asleep on Draco’s chest with his thumb in his mouth. He would have to break him of that habit though. No Malfoy child was going to have crooked teeth like a Snape.
He turned back to his daughter to find her staring up at him with those huge chocolate eyes that he so adored. He leaned down to press a kiss to her forehead. She closed her eyes in content.
“Morning daddy.”
“Morning princess.” He pulled her closer to him.
“Daddy, what’s wrong with Mommy?”
“Honey, I really don’t know but remember what I told you last night okay? Everything will be okay and until everything is okay like I promised, how would you like to stay with me?”
“Does that mean I don’t have to watch Aleks and deal with Viktor anymore?”
“Well, you will have to deal with your little brother, but I’m sure he’s a lot better than Aleks. Speaking of which, he doesn’t know you’re here so why do I move and you wake him up. Go wash up and meet me downstairs for dinner.”
The smirk that she gave him was one that could rival his own. Her face took on that sneaky look that he was used to whenever she had a plan in mind. He kissed her forehead one more time before easing out of the bed as carefully as he could. As he walked down the hallway he could hear he heard screaming followed by laughing. He smiled as he too went to wash up and meet his children for breakfast.
Hermione opened the door of her house to that she shared with Viktor and quietly shut the door. After she left Ginny’s house she drove around in endless circles for hours on end. When the clock read 7 o’clock, she decided that she best get home and try to make some dinner for Viktor and the kids. She walked in the house to find Viktor asleep on the couch. His mouth was hanging open and his legs were sprawled out over the couch. She smiled at him and walked over to place a kiss on his forehead.
In the kitchen, she saw dishes overloading the sink and half eaten food on the stove. For someone who was a wizard, Viktor sure was lazy. She waved her hand and the dishes immediately began to scrub themselves then sit on the drying rack. Going through the house towards Aleks room, she walked in to find him sitting on the floor playing by alone. He smiled at her and stuck his hands up like he wanted to be picked up as soon as she stepped in the door. .
Kissing his forehead, Hermione said, “How is my boy?”
“Good mommy.”
“Did you have fun today?”
“No,” he screamed with a pout on his face.
“And why not?”
“Cassy left.”
Hermione looked at him with a silly look on his face. “Silly boy, are you sure she’s not just playing hide and seek.”
“No she left.”
“And why would she leave?”
“Because we were playing, and she wasn’t playing fair. So I yelled at her and she left.”
“Aleks, that’s not nice. You should apologize to your sister.”
“Daddy, says that I don’t have to be nice.”
“Well I say you do. Now let’s fine your sister and apologize.”
Aleks pouted like he wasn’t going to do it until Hermione gave him her stern face. Aleks knew what that face was.
“Aleksander Krum, you are four years old. You say that you are a big boy, well show me. Go apologize to your sister.”
Hermione sat him down on the floor and pointed out the door. Aleks folded his hands over his chest and began to walk towards Cassy’s room. Hermione followed behind him. Aleks pushed open the door to find the room empty. “See I told you mommy, she left.”
“No she didn’t Aleks. Stop saying that.”
“He’s right. She did leave,” a voice said from behind her. Hermione turned around to see her husband standing there scratching his stomach under his t-shirt. Hermione smiled at him and went up on her tip toes to kiss him. He turned his head at the last minute so that she got his cheek. “Don’t think that I forgot our conversation this morning.”
“Where is Cassy?”
“She is with that bastard of a father of hers.”
“And how did she get there,” Hermione asked as she put a hand on her hip.
“Don’t ask me woman, why don’t you go ask that blonde bitch.”
“Viktor, do not use such language around our children.”
“Children? I have only one child, and he is right there.”
“Surely, you don’t mean that Viktor.”
“How are you to tell me what I mean and don’t mean Herminny?” Even after 6 years of marriage he still could not say her name properly. While it aggravated her to no end, she thanked Merlin for small favors, such as his English which had gotten better but was still held a little of his accent.
“Viktor, what about Cassandra.”
“That is not my child!”
“What about all the times that you tell Draco that she is?”
“Think logically. I only say that to piss him off and you know that.”
“No I didn’t know that Viktor. I actually thought you cared,” she said with a disappointed face.
“Now you know better,” he said as he started to turn away. He turned back and looked at her. “While we are on the subject, let’s talk about caring. How come there’s no food on my table? How come my house isn’t clean? How come my son is not at the best quidditch training school? How come every time that ugly blonde bitch is allowed to disrespect me in my own house? Answer me, wife because I demand some answers?”
Hermione looked at him. “The reason there is no food on the table and the house isn’t clean is because I just got home from work. OUR son is not at the best quidditch training school because he is only 4 years old. The boy can barely write his own damn name and you want to send him off to play quidditch all day. You see where that got you. You pick fights with Draco every time he comes over.”
“I wasn’t talking about Malfoy. I was talking about that daughter of yours.”
Hermione’s hand reached up and slapped him before she could even register it. “Don’t talk about Cassy that way!” Hermione was breathing hard but her heart rate sped up faster when she saw the fire in Viktor’s eyes.
“Don’t ever put your hands on me again! I swear if I were less of a man that I would show you what happens when a woman decides not to obey her husband! That little bitch is home all the time. She does not do what I tell her to. She leaves her brother unattended for hours on end.”
“She is not supposed to be watching him Viktor, you are!”
“I have more important things to do Herminny! You would not understand. You don’t know the first thing about me and you wonder why I had an affair. You know what, I’m going out. I will see you later.” With that, Viktor stormed out of the room and Hermione jumped when she heard a door slam followed by the sound of apparition.
Draco had been having a peaceful yet hilarious dinner with his two kids when he heard the sound of the high heels clacking across the floor. “CASSANDRA ANNE MALFOY!” Draco looked at his daughter as she dropped her fork onto her plate and fear entered her eyes.
Draco looked at his daughter in the eyes and entered her mind. ‘Calm down sweetheart. Everything will be okay. I promise.’ She nodded at him. Draco threw his napkin onto the table and got up. He squeezed his daughter’s shoulder in a comforting gesture before motioning for her to finish eating her dinner. He had a certain bone to pick with a lioness.
As Draco met Hermione halfway across the foyer of the manor, he thought that she never looked more beautiful in her life. It was clear that she was angry as her heels clicked across the floor. Aleks was hanging off her hip as she stormed towards him. She looked radiant, and Draco wanted nothing more than to ravish her right there.
“Draco Lucian Malfoy, you have some damn nerve. What gives you the right to come into my house and take my daughter?”
“Wait just a minute Hermione. Tinky Winky!” The house elf appeared with a smile on her face. “Will you please take Aleksander into the dining room and give him a plate of food please.” The elf nodded before looking at Hermione. Hermione sat the boy on the floor and watched as Tinky Winky took him by the hand and led him to the dining room.
“Now, if I remember correctly. She is our daughter. I had a hand in the making of her too you know. I took OUR daughter from YOUR house because YOUR husband was acting like an ass to OUR daughter and YOU allow it to go on!”
“What the hell are you talking about Draco?”
“Don’t act like you don’t know about how your son hits and yells at our daughter and you let it go. You’re the one to talk about nerve! If I knew this was going on, I would have taken my daughter out that damn house a long time ago.”
“Why does it seem like I am doing nothing but defending my children tonight? Why are you making lies about my son? He loves Cassy, and he would do nothing of the sort to her?”
“Are you sure Hermione because I think right now, you’re so off the deep end that you can’t tell your right from your fucking left?”
“Don’t you dare cuss at me Draco! You don’t have that right. I want my daughter and I want her now.”
“Well I’m sorry. My daughter is living with me until you can get your shit together.”
Hermione’s eyes blazed with anger and she moved closer to him so that she was nose to nose with him. With the help of her heels, she was almost there. She narrowed her eyes and stared in his. “You wouldn’t dare!”
“I would and I will. You need to get your life together Hermione Krum and until you do that then my daughter will be staying with me. I would never deny you your rights as a mother to see her, but when she wakes up in the morning and when she goes to bed at night, she will be with me. She is not to step foot in that household.”
“You can’t do that Draco.”
“Yes I can! Try me and see what happens. I will take you to the Ministry and I will win Hermione. I will buy off the whole damn board if I have to, but rest assured my daughter will be with me until you can get your life together. Start with your damn husband.”
“Don’t you bring Viktor into this conversation Draco. He’s more of a man than you will ever be.”
“Hermione, you’re only saying that to try and get a rise out of me because we both know that’s not true. Viktor is nothing but a piece of shit. Everybody can see that but you.”
“That is not true Draco. He is a wonderful man that loves me and cares for me.”
“He loves and cares for you so much that he would never cheat on you Hermione right? Yeah right. He loves you so much that he accepts your daughter with open arms. He loves you so much right Hermione that he would never do anything to hurt you. Be real Hermione.”
“Shut up Draco. You’re just as bad as he is.”
“You’re right Hermione. At one point I was just as bad as he was, but I’ve changed. I’ve grown up. Hermione, you need to do the same. Stop sleeping in the world of dreams, and wake up and smell the fucking coffee. The world is not all sunshine and roses and you need to realize that.”
“I’m done having this conversation with you Draco, where is my child?”
“She is not leaving-” A loud scream echoed throughout the manor causing both of them to take off towards the dining room. ‘If it’s not one thing, it’s another’ Draco thought as he came upon the sight at the dining room.
