Bad Day...

Once again, I would like to thank you, dawnangel, for being a loyal reader and reviewer. I know you wanted me to take them further back, but I thought that I could come up with a few interesting scenarios here. ANd just to let you know, this is before school started back....I do believe that James and Umbridge might have an....interesting relationship to say the least...

James raised his hands slowly, trying to calm the crowd down.

“What’s this? Drawing your wands on the unarmed?” he said, not quite sure what was going on. And why the hell was his back hurting….?

“You crash into my living room, destroy my table, bring ‘guests,’ and expect us to just pat you on the back and welcome you in? How did you get in here? How did you know about this place?” the unfamiliar man with black hair snapped.

“Now, now, Sirius, there must be a good explanation for their abrupt arrival…” Dumbledore said gently.

“Wait..whoa, whoa, whoa!” James said, waving his hands to stop the old wizard from talking. “Sirius Black?” he asked, his head tilting to the right.

“What’s it to you, boy?” Sirius snarled.

“But you’re-” but an elbow from Draca silenced him.

“Absolutely right! How rude of us…” she said, and brushed dust from her robes. “Draca Malfoy.” She said, and curtsied to the crowd.

“James Potter….jr.” James said, his tail swishing behind him angrily. Why was he introducing himself to his family?

“Injured….that’s who I am….I’m fucking injured…” Tobias snapped, holding up the hand that was nursing the arrow to show that it was covered with blood. “But if I didn’t have an arrow sticking out of my leg, I’d be Tobias Snape.” He said. There was an almost audible ‘whoosh’ as each head snapped towards Severus Snape. Once Tobias revealed his name, the likeness was undeniable. The only thing Tobias seemed to have inherited from his mother was a smaller nose. His hair was long like his father’s, but was straight and glossy, as he wasn’t constantly in the presence of potions fumes….not to say he wasn’t a good potion-maker. His father, the future one, had told him quite often that he had the makings of a Potions Master. His mother told him nothing, as she had walked out on them both when Tobias was only three. He never knew the reason, as his father would never talk about it. But the dark black eyes, thick eyebrows, and slightly thin lips were patent reminders of the broody Professor.

“Eeew…” Ron said, and wrinkled his nose.

“Grow up, Weasley…” Severus snapped. Molly Weasley clicked her tongue.

“While you are all pointing wands and bickering like little girls, that poor boy is bleeding out…” she said, and walked towards Tobias. Tobias gave her a small smile.

“I always knew you had the most sense in the family, Mrs. Weasley…” Tobias said.

“Hey ‘Bias, you got something brown on your nose….” James teased. Tobias sneered at his winged friend.

“Hey…there’s something hideous on your head….oh…that’s your face…” Tobias said, wincing as Molly helped him to his feet.

Sirius cleared his throat. “I still haven’t heard any of you explain why you are in my house…” he said, folding his arms across his chest.

Draca began to absent-mindedly stroke a lock of her white-blonde hair. “At first we-”

“I don’t want to hear it from you, little Malfoy…let the ‘Potter’ tell it…” he said, lowering his arms to finger quotation marks around ‘Potter.’ Draca looked as if someone had slapped her.

James grunted angrily. “Don’t speak to her like that….” He said, his wings spreading slightly in his ire. “You doubt us…we don’t know what’s going on here. First we get chased by centaurs through the Forbidden Forest, then I somehow Apparate us somewhere….we get attacked by effin Death Eaters, and now we’ve crash-landed at Grimmauld place to find a fucking family reunion going on, and everybody’s pointing wands at us! This sucks, damn it!” James snapped, his face going several shades paler over the course of the rant. “I don’t feel good…I feel dizzy…” he said, his wings drooping. Draca stepped close to her friend.

“It’s all right, Jamesie….you’ll be okay…” she said, and rested her hand on the small of his back. “You’ll be-” but when her hand felt wet, she pulled back, and gasped. Her hand was covered in thick dark blood. “James….” She said gently, her voice shaking. James turned to her, and looked down at her hand. She leaned around to survey the damage, and gasped softly, her clean hand going to her mouth. “James! You’ve two arrows in your back….” She said, beginning to tremble with fear.

James swallowed hard. “That could explain why my back hurts…” he said softly. He swayed on his feet, and crashed to his knees. “Fuck…I have the worst luck ever…” he said, and fell forward on his hands, revealing the arrows to the room. They were right between his wings, and embedded quite deep.

Tobias gasped. “Holy fuck….mine’s like a paper cut compared to that…” he said softly. Molly, who had managed to guide Tobias onto the sofa, was shocked silent by the state of James’ back.

The entire back of James’ black school robes was stained dark with the blood. James opened his mouth to say something, but instead coughed violently, spraying the floor with blood. It was as if his injuries had hit him all at once. His wings drooped completely, dragging the ground. His tail, almost always moving, slumped against his backside and lay motionless behind him. His breathing was becoming ragged, irregular, and it was scaring Draca.

“James!” she cried, and fell on the floor beside James. James’ sight was blackening, like night coming way too quickly. His hearing was muffled, and he couldn’t make out any specific sounds.

There was a sharp yelp as Tobias mustered up enough courage to jerk the arrow out of his own leg. He groaned aloud when he saw the tip. It was a headed arrow, made to catch in the flesh when pulled out. And catch it had, as a good chunk of Tobias’ leg had come off with the arrow. “Damn….it…” he gasped. Molly took action immediately. Not taking ‘no’ for an answer, she assigned Severus to help Tobias, and she called for Sirius and Remus to help her get James upstairs to where she could heal him better. James barely felt the strong arms underneath his, and the strange exclamation….he imagined they had seen his Auror badge….people usually acted surprised when they saw it…

He barely saw the stairs before blackness completely overtook his eyesight, and he fell unconscious.

Several hours later, it took Fred, George, and Ron to subdue Draca as she tried to get in to see her friend.

“I want to see him!” she cried, trying to duck and dodge between the three boys to get to the door.

“Sorry, ickle Malfoy…We’ve got explicit orders from Dumbledore himself not to let you in until after he wakes up and someone can interrogate him…” Ron said, absolute loathing dripping from his voice when he said her last name. “Personally I hope they get Mad-Eye Moody to do it, just like they talked about….I’ve heard he uses…unconventional methods…” he said, a cruel grin on his face. Draca’s fist flew out before she thought about the action, and connected roughly with Ron’s face. Though he was a year younger than her at that point, she’d had to aim high to hit him, due to his height. He fell back, his hands on his face. Fred and George had to bite their lips to keep from laughing aloud. Ron had just gotten wailed on by a girl….

“Fuck you, you uptight prat!” She said, and stomped off angrily, unaware of the twins’ eyes simultaneously checking out her retreating posterior. She stormed downstairs, and sat angrily in one of the chairs in the ‘family room,’ firmly ignoring Sirius Black’s gaze as she pouted.

“Wouldn’t let you go coddle with your pet, eh?” he asked, grinning when she puffed up indignantly.

“He’s my friend, and he’s hurt! I want to see him!” she said, her voice cracking at the end. Her eyes filled with tears, and she began to cry. “He’s been my friend since we were six years old, and I want to see for myself if he’s okay…” she sobbed, and drew her feet up into the chair, pulling her knees close. “And he’s not a pet! He’s a better wizard that any in this sorry, dusty, foul excuse for a house!” she hissed, before burying her face against her legs to cry. Sirius groaned; he hated the sound of a crying woman…

A soft clunking sound in the entranceway alerted him to an expected guest. The stranger stopped in the doorway of the room, and Sirius gave a dark grin.

“Ah, Alastor. The man of the hour…” he said. Draca’s head shot up. Alastor Moody…Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody…

Moody stepped into the room, his wooden leg the cause of the clunking. He stopped at the chair Draca was sitting in, and stared down at her. Her tear-reddened eyes widened slightly, and she swallowed hard.

“Alastor Moody…” she whispered, her voice betraying her terror.

“Ah…you know me? But I do not know you…care to enlighten me?” he said, his voice harsh and gravelly.

“D-Draca M-Malfoy, sir…” she said. He gave a soft snort.

“So you say, girl…so you say.” He replied, and his gaze turned to Sirius. “Where’s the boy?” he asked.

“Still out cold. Two centaur arrows to the back can do that…you can ask her whatever you like, and then talk to the other boy. Claims to be the son of Severus Snape, that one does…” he said, contempt saturating his words. Moody’s electric gaze turned back to Draca, who tried to melt into the chair she was sitting in.

“So, girl, are you willing to take Veratiserum?” he asked harshly. “Or should I get Sirius here to hold you down so that we can…er… ‘persuade’ you to take it…” he said. Draca sniffed stubbornly.

“You’ll do neither. I refuse to take Veratiserum. Do your worst, Moody…” she hissed. Sirius laughed mirthlessly, and clapped his hands.

“Oh! I definitely want to see this!”

Oh my! Sirius is being a big meanie!

James is out of commission, which means that Tobias and Draca will have to fend for themselves against the house-hold...but don't worry, James will be back in the mix sooner than you think!
