Chpater 4
Fred watched as Erika slept in one of the hospital beds of St. Mungo. He didn’t know who would want to poison her. His face became hard, first someone removes all memory regarding her in her world and now someone poisoned her. Could those two situations be connected? Erika stirred in her sleep and mumbled something about failing to study for some blasted examination. Despite the situation Fred chuckled to himself, she truly was adorable. Gently he pushed away some of her hair that fell on her face and gazed at her sleeping form. “I promise I will never let any harm come over you again,” he whispered as he stroked her hair. He turned around when he heard someone enter the room. It was Harry, Hermione, Ginny, Ron and Molly. He placed a finger over his lips to indicate that Erika was still asleep and that they should remain quiet. They nodded and motioned him to go out of the room. His mother walked over to where he was sitting and nodded her head to the door’s direction.
“Is there something wrong?” He asked his friends after he left Erika’s room.
“The one who poisoned Erika has been identified,” Harry started.
Fred’s eyes narrowed and stood up straight, “Who is this person?”
“It’s a she. Some of the guests saw her during the event and we have good enough reason to believe that she was the one who poisoned Erika.”
“Tell me her name.”
“Anabella Meanda,” Hermione answered.
He frowned, he’d heard that name somewhere before.
“She was a Death Eater that escaped capture after the war,” Hermione explained.
“A Death Eater’s after Erika! Why?”
Hermione sighed, “She’s a muggle who is lost in the Wizarding world Fred. What did you expect? The remaining Death Eaters are bound to find out about her and get rid of the very thing they despise.”
Fred started pacing back and forth, Damn it! There are still a handful of Death Eaters on the loose. What can I do to protect her?
“We’ve come up with a way to keep her safe, for the time being that is,” Ron apprehensively stated.
His eyes lit up expectantly, “You have?”
“But I don’t think you’ll like it.”
“Why wouldn’t I like it? If it’s going to keep Erika safe then why would I oppose?”
“We came to a decision that the only way to keep her safe is if she is under the protection of an influential pureblood family, one that is respected by the wizarding world, one that knows a lot about the Death Eaters so that person would know how to keep her safe, one who lives in a house that has a very strong protection charm using both the light and dark arts.” Hermione informed him as she watched his expression.
Fred nodded his head to signal her to continue.
“We searched for someone who would fulfill all four requirements, almost everyone we thought of had at least one requirement lacking,” Ginny continued.
He sighed, “I also lack one requirement, the house with the protection charm.”
Ginny looked at his brother sympathetically, “I’m sorry Fred, I know how much you want to be the one to protect her.”
“Did you find anyone?”
Harry nodded, “It’s Draco, he was the only one with all four requirements.”
Fred’s eyes grew wide in disbelief, “Tell me you’re joking Harry.” He looked at the serious faces of the others and shook his head vigorously, “Are you all daft?! You want to put Erika under Malfoy’s mercy? I thought you people cared for her?”
“You know that we do care for her. This is the only way to protect her. He comes from a very influential family that is respected by a lot of wizards and witches, he knows a lot about the Death Eaters and his manor is protected by both the light and dark arts.” Hermione approached Fred but he stepped away from her.
“Of course he’d know a lot about the Death Eaters, he’s bloody part of that group! And you’d better check again if he is respected ‘coz I sure as hell don’t think he is.”
Hermione took a deep breath, “He’s not a Death Eater and you know that. Don’t be stubborn Fred, unless you can think up of anymore way to protect Erika then I suggest you concede.”
“Just because he’s your friend now does not mean that he’s not a Death Eater. I will not concede Hermione. What makes you think that Malfoy will protect her? You heard what Gin said, she’s the only person who gets under his skin and you know how much that annoys him. Why would he protect her?”
Harry crossed his arms in front of his chest, “We’ve already talked to Draco, he’s agreed to the plan. The thing is, he has to marry her to ensure that the Malfoy protection spell will work on her.”
“Marry Malfoy?!”
Hermione gave Harry a dirty look before focusing her attention once again to the furious Weasley. “Fred, think of Erika. She needs protection and Draco can give her that.”
“I am capable of protecting Erika. Don’t tell her about this conversation or about your idea. Marrying Malfoy will not be necessary,” Fred insisted heatedly and entered Erika’s room.
Ron bowed his head down and looked at his shoes, “I told you he wasn’t gonna like it.”
“You shouldn’t have told him about the marriage yet,” Hermione told Harry.
“No, it’s only right that Fred knows about the marriage. It’s better that we tell him rather than Draco.” Ginny stated in defense of Harry.
