“I did it, Zabini,” Draco called, his head amid the green flames in his friend\'s fireplace grate. “I made my first move.”
“Malfoy, you prat, don\'t you know what time it is?” grumbled Blaise, pulling his pillow over his head.
“Worried you won\'t find a witch of your own without your beauty sleep?” Draco teased.
“Hardly,” Blaise leered sleepily. “I managed to find the one who just left twice before she had to get home.”
“Very funny, Zabini, but get over yourself and get yourself over here so you can help me plan my strategy for my meeting with Granger tomorrow.”
“What\'s to plan?” Blaise asked. “You admit that you have stayed out of Ministry business specifically to allow this law to pass because you knew it was the only way to get into her robes. Then you point out that she only has 7 weeks before she has to accept someone, declare your undying love, and ride off into the sunset with her on your best broom. That\'s the plan, right?
“If I thought honesty would work, I\'d try it no matter how un-Slytherin that would be, but you and I both know she\'d run so fast I\'d never catch up before Valentine\'s Day,” Draco admitted grudgingly. “As it\'s obvious I\'ll get no help out of you, though, I\'ll let you get back to sleep. Best of luck with tonight\'s witch. May she be the mother of your future half-blooded children.”
“Very funny, Draco,” Blaise said before he realized that the flames has returned to normal.
Back at the mansion, Draco was more nervous than he would ever have admitted to his friend. How did a man go about tricking a woman into marrying him? He wondered what Granger was thinking, and mentally kicked himself for giving her any warning. He shouldn\'t have given her time to think at all; he should have just dumped the entire proposal in her lap and married her before she could remember to say no. But he knew better than most that Hermione wouldn\'t have let that happen.
No, he had done the right thing. He had planted the seed of interest and given her half a day to let her get used to the idea. Tomorrow he would lay out his proposal and have an answer. If she said yes, he would get the wedding planned and marry her before the law passed. If she said no, he would figure out which details she didn\'t like and make different offers until she said yes. No matter what, this was his only chance, and he wasn\'t going to let it pass him by.
