Someone Else
Sold to someone else. The words thrummed in her head as her hair was scrubbed with conditioner and rinsed. Moonflower finally opened her mouth.
“How can we be sold?”
“We wish we could tell you. But we know so little ourselves.” Dandelion sighed. Sunflower jumped in.
“We weren’t completely honest with you when we said we didn’t know anything. We remember a little, very little, about who we were before we came here. My name was Sarah, and hers was Danielle, and we were sisters. But that’s it. It’s not enough to leave.”
“Could you leave?” Moonflower rubbed her shoulders.
“We’re not sure we’d want to. For all we know, the rest of the world is just like this. Maybe it’s worse. And the things we’ve seen here… no one would believe us.” Dandelion shut up after that, not willing to say more.
“But what was my name? I couldn’t always be Moonflower.”
“Shh,” Sunflower hushed her and instructed her to rinse with some mouthwash before they lifted her from the tub and rubbed her dry with fluffy towels.
Her hair was brushed and blown dry, her face was covered with make up, and her body was covered in cotton panties, a bra, and a creamy colored dress. She looked ethereal and angelic in the lovely outfit, completed by the high heeled white sandals she wore.
Moonflower’s legs were wobbly and uncertain, and so the other two girls had to link their arms through hers.
“Are you ready to go and see who you belong to?” one of them, she’d lost track my now, asked.
“No. But let’s go anyway.”
