At First Glance

When Harry got back to Hogwarts the next morning he came in through the same fireplace he'd left through. The room was still well lit and warm but his father was nowhere to be found. Venturing out into the corridor Harry walked towards the Great Hall. It was almost noon so the teachers that had remained for the summer for would probably be arriving for lunch.

Harry found Professor Dumbledore and his father sitting down to lunch just as he entered. They both looked up at the sound of his arrival and broke into twin smiles of greeting. That sight alone was enough to make Harry sure he'd make the right choice in accepting his father.

They ate lunch together and Harry listened to the older wizards talk about anything from new magical theories to the arguments that broke out in the teacher's lounge. When they were finished his father asked him if he had anything in particular he wanted to do.

"Actually, I was hoping we could go to shopping. I need some new clothes after this growth spurt, and I might as well get my school supplies."

"Harry, people will ask questions." His father spoke solemnly. "They may ask why we're together."

"I'm going to tell them the truth. That you're my father. I don't want to pretend you're not."

"It's not that simple. If the wrong people found out, the Dark Lord would know in an instant. I can't jeopardize my position as a spy." He had forgotten about his father's double life in the war against the dark. Harry didn't want to take such a valuable source of information from the Order, but could he deal with knowing his father was putting his life on the line daily? He'd just found his father, he didn't want to lose him already.

"Actually Severus," the headmaster started. "I've been thinking lately, and I believe you've lived a dangerous life for far too long."

"Albus no. The Order needs my information." Harry could feel the mingled worry and fear in the room and he wasn't sure which emotion belonged to whom.

"You told me yourself that you have lost status with Lord Voldemort lately, due to a lack of information from me. And you know we have another spy in the ranks. I can have him assume a more active role in the Order"

"I don't want to bring Lucius farther into this than he already is! He has his own family to worry about!"

"Lucius?" Harry was floored. "Lucius Malfoy is a spy for the Order?"

"Yes Harry," the Headmaster said. "Since the first war."

"But what about the battle at the Ministry? He tried to kill me!"

"No he didn't." His father spoke. "If I'm not mistaken, when he showed up there he talked up a storm giving you and your friends time to escape the other Death Eaters. Correct?"

Now that Harry thought about it, it was Lucius' ranting that had given them the time to scramble together a plan with a lot of whispered words and foot stomping. "You're right. I never even thought about it like that."

"Yes well that's all fine and good but if Lucius takes my role then he's placing Draco in the same position Harry is in now."

"That's not true at all Severus. Draco has his mother and you, you are his Godfather. Harry has no one." Harry was slightly surprised to learn that his rival was his father's Godson, but when he thought on it he really didn't find it that surprising. Draco had always been favored by the Potions Professor. Dumbledore went on.

"I hate to put anyone in that position but we need someone inside, and Harry needs you." Harry watched his father, all the while hearing faint thoughts echoing through his own mind, little snatches of "he's right..." and "but Lucius is my best friend!" With that knowledge Harry better understood his father's struggle, he wouldn't want to place Ron in his own position if he could help it.

Eventually however, his father conceded. "Fine. I will speak with Lucius about it. There is actually a chance I might run into him in Diagon Alley today, he usually does Draco's school shopping a couple weeks early."

Ten minutes later they walked to the edge of the anti-apparition wards where Harry side along apparated with his father to the entryway of Diagon Alley. They went to Gringotts first, where Harry was happy to learn he still had access to the Potter vault. Afterwards they bought all of the supplies Harry would need for his seventh year, which Snape shrunk and held onto for him. When that was finished his father said, "I doubt very much you want my opinion on your wardrobe, and I have some business to attend to in Knockturn Alley. I'll meet you outside of Madame Malkin's in an hour."

Harry entered the store and heading straight for the back where he knew the section of clothes for younger wizards was kept. He sifted through racks of trousers, jeans, button downs and tee shirts. He tried on what felt like an entire closet full of clothes before he had what he thought would be enough to keep him clothed for the year. While he was changing he noticed that darker fabrics tended to look better with his new coloring. Once he had paid for everything he decided to change into one of his new outfits, 'in an attempt at a new start' he thought. He slipped on a pair of black jeans and a tight grey tee shirt, which he completed with a new pair of dragon hide boots that would rival his father's. 'I bet even Ginny would approve' he thought as he glanced in the mirror.

He left the changing stall and headed to the other side of the store, where Madame
Malkin herself did measurements for wizarding robes. He told her that he needed a whole new set of school robes and everyday robes, and as an afterthought asked for new dress robes. She instructed him to move into the back room to wait for her while she grabbed the cloth. When Harry entered the room he felt a pang reminiscent of his eleventh birthday at the sight of Draco Malfoy being measured. That in itself wasn't odd, as his father had said that they might run into the Malfoys. No, what was odd was the wave of lust that washed over Harry, causing his knees to weaken and his groin to throb. Draco must have felt something also, because without even hearing Harry enter he spun around to stare straight at him, his grey eyes flashing silver.

They looked into each other's eyes as a twin thought was heard by both, 'Whoa.' Eventually Harry straightened and stood up straight. "Potter." Draco drawled, and at the sound of his voice, he felt another shot of lust causing Harry to curse his new tight pants which were not exactly hiding his growing problem.

"Malfoy," he finally said and shortly after Harry could feel the lust emanating from the other boy. 'Jesus Christ' Harry thought, and he caught the blush on the other boy's face just before the witch measuring his robes said "Okay Mr. Malfoy, you're all done and free to go." Harry could faintly hear the echoed 'Must I?' in his mind but Draco just nodded and slowly walked out of the room, his eyes trained on Harry the whole time.

Harry barely paid attention as he was measured for his new robes, grunting his answers as he paid and left the shop. He was sitting outside the shop, his brow furrowed in concentration when his father walked up.

"Did everything go all right?"

"Yes. No. Actually..." He trailed off.

"Yes?"

"How did you know my mum was your Mate?" Harry asked, looking up at his father. His father reached down and grabbed his hand, pulling him to stand up. Harry was much taller than he had been days before, but he could tell he would never be quite as tall as his father, who was one of the tallest people at Hogwarts.

"It was, uh-" he lightly blushed and Harry's eyes widened 'He's blushing!' he thought. His father glared at him, which was no where near as intimidating as it used to be, and Harry remembered that his father could read his thoughts. 'Oops.'

"Yeah, oops. Anyway, I knew she was my Mate because any time she entered the room I would get a rush of, uh, um-"

"Sex?" Harry asked.

"Er- yeah. How did you know?"

"I have a bad feeling I've found my Mate already." He looked around him suspiciously, as if afraid Draco might have remained behind to listen.

"Why would that be bad?"

'Draco Malfoy' he thought. By the look on his father's face, he'd heard him loud and clear.
