8:01 AM.



Hermione walked in her office and put all of the waiting cases and files on her desk. She was taken aback when her chair swirled around and showed Draco sitting on it.



“Hello Hermione.”



Now



"Hello Draco. How are you?"







After the war, Draco had been relieved that the Dark Lord was killed at Harry's hand. He was so stressed trying to carry out Voldemort's orders that he lost weight, couldn't sleep properly. By the end of the war, he was no longer the man that many girls swooned over.



When Voldemort was defeated and the rest of the death eaters captured, Draco was taken into custody. When he appeared in front of the ministry for his trial, along with his parents for being death eaters and for helping with the invasion of Hogwarts.



Lucius Malfoy was found guilty because the members of the Ministry found that he had been deeply involved with many of Voldemort's plans when the aurors put him under the influence of veritaserum.



Draco and Narcissa Malfoy were found not guilty due to stress and pressure from Lucius Malfoy.



When Draco walked out of the Ministry, he breathed in the fresh air deeply because he had been stuck in Azkaban since his arrest. Even though the Dementors were removed, the prison was still a terrible place.



Draco knew that he's been given a second chance and he wouldn't let it go to waste.



The first thing that Draco did was to purge his house of all dark items. That included spellbooks, potions, and possible dangerous animals. Then, he and his mother had a long talk about their second chance and a possible start for a new life, free from a Dark Lord.



He knew that he would have to make amends to everyone he had wronged. For a entire week, he locked himself away in his study, writing letter to everyone that he made fun of, hexed upon, and/or just made them feel bad about themselves. He started off with Harry Potter, his ex-arch nemesis, then to Hermione Granger, then to other people. He was somewhat surprised at the long list of the people. Draco Malfoy silently vowed to not purposely put people down for the sake of amusement again.



He was even more surprised when some of the people wrote back, saying that it was okay. Draco was glad. In an effort to change, he started corresponding many of the people back. Over the years, the letters evolved from polite tidbits to friendly letters. Some of the people that corresponded were Harry, Hermione, and Neville.



Another thing was that Narcissa noticed. Draco was still too skinny. He hasn't gotten healthy yet. Narcissa had urged him to eat up whenever they sat down for meals. Draco wasn't feeling it. Then a spark came to Narcissa. Perhaps, if Draco could do something like get a job or get a new hobby, he wouldn't brood on the past events and his body would be in tip-top shape.



The family still had money and had some pull in the wizarding world.



So for the following days, Narcissa hinted at Draco, asking if he had any plans, any possible job offers. She wanted this to be of his own accord, without pressure from his mother. He had plenty of that from his father during the death eater days.



The next day, an owl arrived from the administration office at the Ministry. In the letter, it read:



Dear Mr. Draco Malfoy,



We at the Administration Office would like to extend a job offer of a junior supervisor of the departments to you based on your O.W.L. and N.E.W.T. scores. The job will consist of checking on various departments and checking their progress in their projects. If you do decide to accept this job offer, you will be place under one of the senior supervisors, where he or she will train you and prepare you for your career path.

Draco reread the letter twice and gave it some thought. The job would suit him and appease to his mother who has been hinting endlessly for a job or a hobby.



Looking for some parchment and ink, he replied,



Dear Mr. Williams,



I would like to meet with you and discuss about the job offer soon. Is 10 AM on the Friday the 14th a good time for you?

Since then, he accepted the offer. He worked diligently at his job and became of one of the best administrators. He helped and improved the departments by passing new policies and redrafting old and obsolete ones. Also, Draco came to be the physique of his old self once again shortly after he took the job.







"Well, Draco. Come to check up on me again, I see," said Hermione.



"Yes, I have. I've been reading up on some papers and I'm concerned."



"Really? What about?" said Hermione with a feigned shock on her face.



Draco could not keep a straight face any longer. He burst out laughing. So did Hermione.



"C'mon, did you really think I was in any trouble? I keep impeccable records and I do my work brilliantly. After all, I am one of the brightest witches of my age."



"Careful, Granger. One might think your ego has gotten bigger."



She smiled at the remark. If someone told Hermione Granger that she would consider Draco Malfoy one of her friends two years ago, she would have smacked them silly. But, Hermione has seen the reforms that Draco had made over the years: donating money, sending out apology letters and keeping correspondence with some of the people that he sent out apologies. Also, Hermione always had a budding crush on Draco since their Hogwarts days, but that was pushed back since he spewed insults at her. Since the reformation of Draco Malfoy, the crush has came back. However, she put it aside since she had a loving relationship with Harry.



"Do you want to have lunch after I finish inspecting your department?" asked Draco.



"Huh?" said Hermione, "Oh, yeah. Just come find me when you're done. I should be in the office for the most of the morning."



"All right. See ya then!" said Draco with a smile.



Hermione smiled back and said, "I'll be waiting!"
