“You dance?”
The next image was a familiar one. Platform 9 ¾ on September 1st.
Rhiannon was dragging her large trunk, her brother and James nowhere in sight. She grunted loudly before giving up, plopping down next to a small red-haired girl sitting on her trunk. They sat next to each other in silence for a few moments, watching the students around them mulling about, saying their goodbyes.
Rhiannon observed the red-head’s trunk for some time. It was covered in various stickers.
“You dance?” she asked, startling the girl next to her.
“Yeah” The red-head replied quietly.
“Me too”
“Ballet?” She brightened a little.
“Yeah. 7 years. Since I was four” Rhiannon replied, looking ahead instead of at the girl she was addressing.
“5 years,” replied the red-head. There was an awkward silence. “I hate it.”
Rhiannon suddenly turned to the girl and smiled.
“Me too.”
“Lily”
“Rhiannon Black”
“Oh, Lily Evans then.” The girl corrected herself.
“Evans? Related to Horace Evans?” Rhiannon ventured. She thought she had met most of the pureblooded kids her age.
“Not to my knowledge. I’m the first in my family. My friend told me that doesn’t matter though.”
Tell that to my parents, Rhiannon thought sardonically.
“Who’s your friend?”
“Mum would kill me if she knew I lost you.”
“Lost me? We’re on a damned train Sirius.”
“Come sit with James and me. We met this kid. I bet you’ll fancy him more than you fancy James” he teased.
“Shut up Sirius! I do not fancy James. He’s a jerk like you, now bugger off!”
Lily glanced up from the book she was reading with Severus.
“Why don’t you please just leave her alone. I think I’ve had enough of you for today and so has she”. She said coolly as Snape let out a small smile. They had stormed out of Sirius and James’ compartment a few hours earlier.
“She happens to be my sister. I would hate to think that she got lice or something from hanging out with your little friend.” Sirius snapped, flipping his head towards Severus, who scowled, but didn’t respond.
“Get lost Sirius! I hope you get sorted into Hufflepuff!” Rhiannon yelled, getting to her feet.
‘I hope you get sorted into Slytherin so I never have to see you again!” He retorted.
“Fine with me!” Rhiannon loved her brother and realized they just fought with each other for the hell of it. Life at 12 Grimmauld Place had a lot of tension and a lot of fighting, usually with Sirius bearing the brunt of the abuse because he was the oldest. When push came to shove, literally, the three siblings were amazingly close. Sometimes Sirius was just unbearable though.
Sirius opened his mouth the yell something else, when James popped his head into the compartment.
“Sirius, we’re almost there. Oh, hey Rhiannon! You coming back with us?”
He flashed a smile that could break hearts and make girls transfer to different train compartments.
“Uh, sure. See you at the sorting Lily.”
