Three Secrets Shared
AN: OFMG, it's Tuesday already! Just two days ago I was bouncing with anticipation for when I could finally upload this... and then I got a life. *sighs*. Well, it's kind of fun so far... me and a guy in my Chinese class met to study and ended up watching random episodes of Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger and having in-depth discussions of various control schemes and non-military uses for giant robots (there aren't that many... precision construction? human-sized robots to be used instead of astronauts? eh...) and that was my life for the week(jk). Then I got caught in the flash-flood that was due last night when walking back to my dorm. So, I get inside, dry off, get dry clothes on, and remember that I need to go to this other building to get dinner. At least it was close...
Okay, peeps, please note and remember: this is a GIRL!HARRY/GINNY/DRACO!! It will be some time before they all get together, but the hinting starts in this chapter.
Chapter Three: Three Secrets Shared
It had been a good first week at the Burrow.
Hermione had sent Halle and early birthday present—Switch Papers, Marigold Mouths, and More, a book on little-known long distance communication methods, and a stack of note-cards, for studying. Halle figured that this was just Hermione's sense of humour showing itself. Hopefully.
On the other hand, she and Ginny had had some great late night talks, in which Halle had learned some things of no little surprise to her. Homosexuality was accepted in the Wizarding World, and same-sex marriages were legal and thought nothing of; well, at least if you weren't expected to carry on the family line or had an arranged marriage or something. Actually, even the distinction between sexualities had seeped through from the Muggleborns during the last century. Before that, it was generally accepted that you were attracted to a person, not their sex.
“I even used to have a crush on you,” Ginny had confessed.
Halle's eyebrows rose to her hairline. “You did?”
“Yeah. Then I saw you at Platform 9¾ Ron's first year, and, well...”
“You saw a lost kid with old clothes and broken glasses and it completely killed the image,” Halle joked.
“Well, I didn't know who you were until Ron owled home and told us.”
“Ah.”
“Yeah. It was a sort of idolization, and I didn't really see you until I joined the Quidditch team. Ron tried to tell me you were just a real person, but it takes awhile to get over that kind of thing.”
Halle nodded. “At least you did. Most people don't, and they just believe what the papers say.”
“Like that thing about you and 'Mione?” Ginny asked, smiling.
“Yeah. What was up with that, anyway? I mean, you just said that it didn't matter—”
“You're a half-blood, Halle, and didn't grow up in the Wizarding World, so anything having to do with Muggles is applied to you,” the younger girl explained patiently. “Including the scandalousness of having a same-sex relationship. Also, if you'll remember, Hermione was much more upset than you, and you were really only angry on her behalf.”
“So, did your mom know?” Halle asked, curious.
“About my crush? Of course. The entire family knew. That's why you're in Percy's old room instead of mine. Hermione's going to be staying in my room, too.”
“So why didn't anyone tell me? About you liking me?”
“I'm sure they hinted, but we weren't too sure of how you felt about it, being Muggle-raised and all.”
“Argh!” Halle fake-swooned. “You know how clueless I am! Hints! Hints! All this time, and we could've been having a real torrid lesbian affair!”
“With 'Mione as a third for extra spice two years ago?” Ginny joked.
“Absolutely! But now it's too late; you're dating that Michael Corner.” Halle made her best distraught face, which wasn't all that good.
They laughed.
“We broke up,” Ginny told her, still smiling.
“Oh, I'm sorry,” Halle replied.
“He went off with Cho Chang, remember? The one who was after you all last year?”
“Oh. Oh. Oh yeah, I remember that now.”
“You really are clueless,” Ginny remarked.
“Completely,” Halle affirmed. “Of course, I don't know you that well. I mean, I sorta do, but I know Ron and Hermione much better, and I'm not quite as clueless with them. Hey, why don't we make a deal? You tell me something personal about yourself, I'll tell you something equally personal about me?”
Ginny agreed.
“Well?” Halle prompted when the red-head didn't say anything.
“I already went, it's your turn.”
“Oh, fine!” Halle huffed good-naturedly. “Let's see... that was pretty personal, wasn't it?”
Ginny nodded.
“Hmm... most of my personal things are too well-known to match yours, so I'll tell you something that no one else knows, okay?”
“Sure!”
“Promise not to tell?”
“Of course; that's what these girl talks are about!”
“Alright. Well, I wanked off a guy once.”
“Okay. How come no one else knows?”
“Because I was the guy.”
Ginny blinked. “...how'd you manage that?”
“The night before I got picked up, I was all alone at Number Four, and extremely bored. So, while going through my school stuff, I found some of the Polyjuice Potion that I stole from the Death Eater that impersonated Mad-Eye Moody back during the Tri-Wizard Tournament.”
“So you were bored and decided to steal some guy's hair and wank?”
“Well, not like that. I'd gotten some hair from this one guy at school, someone who doesn't like me, and I was going to use it to do something to him, and I thought that maybe he had something he hid under his robes that I could blackmail him with. The wanking was completely incidental.”
Ginny nodded. “From what I hear, that's the way boys are. So, how'd it go?”
Halle blushed to her roots. “What?! Ginny! I've already told—”
“No, no!” Ginny was blushing too. “I meant with the blackmail! Not-not—I've got brothers I could ask that to!”
“Oh,” was all Halle could say for a few minutes. “Well, actually, that's something I need to talk to someone about. Would you...”
“Oh, sure! I know all sorts of ways to blackmail!” Ginny said, practically bouncing with anticipation.
“Well, the thing is, I'm not going to blackmail him.”
“What?!”
“Well, I—and you can't tell anyone about this, either—what I found, it wasn't pretty.”
“He's deformed?”
“No he's—he's got scars, Ginny. Big, nasty ones, all over his back. I'm pretty sure he was beaten.”
Ginny was horrified.
“You see why I can't use it to blackmail him, Gin? There's no way he deserved all of those, and from their age I'd say he got them at home.”
“But-who—”
“I can't say, Gin. It's his secret, not mine, and I wasn't even supposed to find out. I'm not sure what I'll do once we get to Hogwarts—I mean, I guess I'll figure it out as I go along, but if I start acting weird, and disappearing off to places, I'm probably dealing with him.”
“Okay. And why do I need to know this now?”
“Because if I try to tell this to Ron and Hermione they'll bother me until I tell, and try to figure out who it is and confront him. I really don't need to be dealing with more than one angle on this. They'll be wondering where I go off to, and if I can get someone to tell them to leave me alone—” Halle was cut off by the rather irate red-head.
“So I'm just a message deliverer?”
“No! Merlin, Gin; I'm telling you this because I trust you! I mean, I need someone to talk to now, and I'll need someone to talk to when I'm dealing with him. Someone I trust. Someone who won't boss me around or spill the secrets to the one who bosses me around. As much as I love Ron and 'Mione, they don't seem to think I can do anything without their help.”
“What about my help?” Ginny asked sullenly.
“If I need it, I'll ask. Okay?” Halle pleaded. “The just talking helps a lot, when I can get it.”
“Alright, I'll do it. But if I think you're in over your head, or something, I will let you know, and come after you if you don't listen. And not in a nice way.”
“Okay, Gin. I get it. So, ready for another round?” Halle asked, feeling the need for a subject change.
“Alright, my favourite class is Charms,” Ginny said, going along with her.
“Mine's DADA.” Halle was pretty sure most people knew this anyway, but that was okay. They continued trading favourites for the rest of the night, and again the next with grade school stories.
