“Ah, Mr. and Mrs. Malfoy. What a pleasure to see you today, although I must wonder as to why you are not on your honeymoon.”

Draco and Hermione had silently made their way out of Malfoy Manor and down the road to where Albus Dumbledore, their Headmaster, lived during the summers. Aside from a few glares exchanged at random intervals during the walk (the Apparation wards ended but a few feet from where Dumbledore’s began, so there really was no point), the two had exchanged no communication at all. Hermione was still coming to terms with the fact that she was married, and was running through a mental list of what to do and who needed to be told and how to react to what people said.

Draco had come to terms with it already, and seeing as he knew what his ring said (and could translate it from Latin to English), was already very well aware that it was a very binding marriage. He had to admit, he was rather curious about the specifics of their marriage. They had to be interesting, seeing as they were decided upon while the two of them were extremely drunk.

Hermione, for one, was panicking and trying not to show it. My parents will freak, Ron will be crushed, the Weasleys won’t speak to me, Harry will be furious, and eventually all I’ll have for company is Malfoy! We have to get an annulment, or a divorce, as soon as possible!

So, they had arrived at Dumbledore’s humble cottage. He had kindly shown them into his parlor with those very frustrating words, and Hermione was so upset that she hadn’t even noticed that it was a House Elf that had handed her a cup of tea.

Noticing that Hermione was clearly unable to respond to their headmaster’s question, Draco answered himself. “Professor, when we got married we were very, very drunk. We have no memory of the specifics of our marriage only that we got married and signed a contract, and would like to know what we agreed to. After that, I, for one, would like to get an annulment or divorce as quickly as possible, if possible at all.”

Hermione’s head shot up at the last statement, worry clearly written all over her face. “If possible, Malfoy? If possible? What the hell are you talking about?”

Sighing with evident frustration, Draco responded, “Well, my ring says ‘Simul Semper,’ which clearly means ‘together always.’”

Narrowing her eyes at him, Hermione hissed, “Clearly? You know Latin?”

Completely confused, Draco said, “Well, yeah. I learned it in primary school.”

Hermione tried to control her anger and frustration. “Well, I don’t speak Latin. I speak French. Now, my ring says ‘Nullus Discidium,’ and I want to know what that means!”

With a gulp, Draco whispered, “Yours means ‘no separation.’” Slightly worried now, he turned to Dumbledore, who had a grin on his face and a twinkle in his eyes. “What did we agree to? And why did you let us?”

Hermione leaned forward in her armchair, anxious to hear the answers to both questions. After setting his tea cup down on an end table next to his armchair, Dumbledore replied, “To answer your second question, Mr. Malfoy, while any one could tell that you two were highly intoxicated and were engaging in this commitment entirely for the wrong reasons, your professors and I have been overhearing frustrated comments from your classmates as to how, ah, stupid you two have been. Your friends and classmates seem to believe that there is a large amount of unresolved sexual tension between the two of you, and that it is obvious that you have very strong, romantic feelings for one another. Not only do your professors and I agree with them, but we feel that it has been unfair for Mr. Weasley and Miss Parkinson.”

Throughout this little speech, Hermione had alternately narrowed her eyes, blushed, and gone very pale. Draco was shocked, he did not know that his feelings had been so transparent, and was slightly confused. “What do Weasely and Pansy have to do with this? Weasley, I think I understand, but I’m not dating Pansy.”

Hermione hissed, “Ron and Pansy have been dating behind our backs for months. That was what caused me to go out and get completely drunk last night. Ron and I went on a break six months ago, to focus on destroying Voldemort with Harry, although I assumed we would get back together once it was all over. Clearly, he just saw it as an opportunity to break up with me for good.”

“Well, it’s about time,” Draco said, surprising himself. “She’s been in love with him for years. Clearly Weasley was just too much of a coward to break up with you in a definite way.” He turned to face Hermione, seeing the tears swimming in her eyes. “He didn’t deserve you anyways,” he whispered, so only she could hear him.

Dumbledore seemed very pleased that Draco was not denying his true feelings. Too pleased, Hermione though, brushing away the tears with the back of her hand. “Professor, what are the terms of our marriage?” she questioned after a moment.

Before answering, Dumbledore looked at the two young people in front of him. They were the two brightest students ever to go through the walls of Hogwarts, and were clearly made for each other, if they could ever get past the issues of their first three years of acquaintance. They made a perfect couple, and might, within a few months of constant contact, be very much in love. They were also the two most influential students in their respective Houses, and tomorrow would find out that they were to be Head Boy and Head Girl. This marriage could be the best thing that has happened to Hogwarts in centuries! he thought.

“Your marriage contract does not allow for any divorce of any kind for the first fifteen years. For the first five years of your marriage, you are required to share a bedroom, and must sleep in the same bed at least every other night. For the sake of my poor old ears, I stopped you two from making any kind of sexual requirements, especially because I had a feeling you might get graphic. After the first five years, you may do as you please, and, if you wish, may get a divorce in fifteen years,” Dumbledore said, after it seemed that the two could not wait any longer.

The two teens in front of him did not say anything at all. Looking over them, Dumbledore noticed that neither of them seemed to have any kind of prevailing emotion. Hermione seemed torn between being glad that there were no more requirements and being upset that she would have wanted to make sexual requirements. Draco did not seem to have any kind of feeling about the situation at all, except for his usual haughty indifference.

For the first time Dumbledore realized the magnitude of the situation. Before either of them could say anything, he concluded, “While you may get a divorce in fifteen years, I beg of you, give the relationship a chance! Try to be a couple, see how it works, and I hope that in five years you will not look at this as the greatest mistake of your lives.”

Draco numbly nodded, and Hermione thanked him for everything. A House Elf showed them to the door, and Mr. and Mrs. Malfoy walked back to Malfoy Manor, ready to talk about their relationship and hopefully to decide what to do next.
