4-Laugh, cry, swear if you have to

Severus Snape went down to the dungeons to drink some tea and think about all that had happened.
Being Draco’s godfather he had known about the change.
Lucius Malfoy was the one who told him about the potion, needed to tone down Draco’s impulses.
It was called ‘Timere Hedrychum Coercerus’, it meant as much as ‘backing down from a compelling smell’.
The name still made Severus a bit uneasy.
The things that could happen if it was not administered right at the end of the change.
He shuddered thinking about it.
Luckily it had to be ingested once every forthnight, thought it worked better when taken
of one’s own free will.
He just needed to speak to Draco about it, the boy would do what was necessary.
What the Potions Master didn’t understand was, how the change could have happened this quickly.
As Draco was a Dark Elf, he was supposed to change during the evening.
Only when in the near vicinity of a mate, an elf would change faster.
As soon as the thought entered Severus’ mind, he jumped up and started pacing in front of his fireplace.
It couldn’t be, could it?
No, nonononono, not the Weasley boy!
“Oh Great Circe, please let this not be true” he groaned out load.
But it made sense…the stupid redheaded Gryffindor had been near Draco almost all the time.
Oh Gods, Lucius would have a fit.
But what about Draco’s actions in the infirmary?
Severus was at a loss.
He felt a headache coming up.
Could this day get any worse?
And then it did…the flames in his fireplace turned green.
He heard the voice of the headmaster coming through.
“Severus, if you are not busy, would you come through for a moment? I need some advice on a delicate matter and I am afraid it can't wait”, he said into the flames.

Severus rose, threw some floo powder in the fireplace, said “the headmaster’s office” and went through.
A few seconds later the dour potions master was stating he had indeed been busy, but the headmaster chose to ignore his answer.
“Severus, my boy. I would like to know what would happen, if someone was to interfere with the Elven Laws of the Ilde Elvere. Let's say because of the 'bloodmate-hunt'.”
The silence in the office was deafening, but was soon broken with first a chuckle, then a snort, a series of chuckles and then a thunderous laughter.
Now this was a sight.
Severus Snape, snarky scowling Potions Master Extraordinaire, laughed till tears of mirth ran down his cheeks.
“Inter-...hahahaha...interfere?” the tall man doubled over in stitches.
After a full five minutes of this he calmed down a bit.
“Headmaster? Who would ever be that stupid as to interfere with the hunt? Does someone have a death wish?” the Potions Master hiccupped.
Then he noticed the serious face of the headmaster.
It was eerie to see how his face changed instantly from smiling to dead serious.
“Oh no, don't tell me someone is already interfering. Who is it?” he asked in a grave voice.
“It is Poppy, Severus. She thinks Potter and the Malfoy boy are supposed to be together. She has gotten it in her head to try and 'help' them.” Minerva said, with a glint of worry in her eyes.
Severus rose and went through the floo to the infirmary.
He had to convince her somehow to stop.
It would mean her death if he couldn't.

****************************

Snape stepped out of the floo and scanned the ward for the medi-witch.
He called her name, but she didn’t answer.
It was not like Poppy to not answer and Severus walked to her office.
Maybe she was busy and couldn’t come out to meet him?
When the Potions Master reached the office he stopped at the door, looking in with a look of concern on his face.
The office looked as if a group of frenzied trolls came through it.
Everywhere he looked he saw scrolls, quills, inkwells and what-not strewn around.
Walking further into the office Snape saw the medi-witch sitting on the floor amidst even more scrolls.
She was reading and mumbling things to herself, while taking notes with a dicta-quill.
Snape’s heartrate went down considerably, seeing that Poppy had come to no harm.
However, he was getting rather annoyed when she refused to acknowlegde his presense.

He cleared his throat, but the damned woman still didn’t look up.
“Poppy?” Snape said a bit sharp.
No, still no answer.
“POPPY!” he yelled.
“I thought I was ignoring you” Poppy said in a matter-of-fact tone.
“I COULDN’T CARE LESS ABOUT WHAT YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE DOING” Snape bellowed.

Now Madam Pomfrey had known the man since his early years and wasn’t the least bit phased by his demeanor.
“Don’t you dare use that tone of voice with me, young man. I will box your ears, like I did when you were a first year” she said sternly, looking up at the dour man before her.
Snape’s face softened a bit and he smiled a little at the elderly woman.
In his opinion one could call Poppy Pomfrey a lot of things, but not a coward.
He liked her for her feisty attitude and was quite fond of her, although he would never admit it to anyone.
She was the only one to take him to task for his behaviour and he secretly admired her for it.
Yes, the medi-witch was very special indeed.

“Be that as it may, Madame, I do need to speak with you about interfering with the Elven Laws.” Snape said.
“If you are going to try and stop me from helping those two boys, I will tell you now that you will not succeed. I know I am right” she said, standing up.
“Tell me Severus…didn’t you see what I saw, when the Malfoy boy woke up? He went to Mister Potter without hesitation and sniffed his neck right away. Then he calmed down. You did see it, didn’t you?” she asked with a frown on her face.
*Potter?* he thought almost hyperventilating.
“Are you alright dear? You look as if you’ve seen a muggle do magic.”, Madam Pomfrey asked worriedly.
“Hmm? What was that, Poppy? Oh yes, quite. I feel fine.” Snape answered distracted.
“I have to go. Promise me you will do nothing foolish, it could literally mean your death.” He said in an ominous way.
Snape turned around and walked out of the office and then the infirmary, robes billowing as if to emphasize his words.

The headmaster was startled out of his thoughts by the voice of Minerva.
“Albus? What will happen now? We need to figure something out. Poppy is on a mission that could get her killed, Severus is worried about his godson, Harry is falling to pieces and Draco is who-knows-where.” She said a bit anxious.
“Now now dear, don’t worry your pretty little head about this. Severus will convince Poppy somehow. Harry is very resilient and Draco is on his way home” was Dumbledore’s reply.
“Come, my love. Let’s go to bed. It has been a rather eventfull morning and we need something else to occupy our minds for a while” he said with a roguish grin.
The Transfigurations Professor blushed sweetly and took his hand.
It had been an eventfull morning indeed, but it would become more so now, she thought.
