Where Are We?

short chapter again, but i have updated 4 times in the last 5 days so i think thats excusable, don't you? all your review so far have been great, and i hope you will continue to enjoy the story! this chap is a bit of a breather for harry after the action of the last one, confrontations with both of the most politically powerful men in Wizarding Britain, i think he deserves it! We also get a chance to see harry and draco interact and their slightly disjointed relationship.

I own nothing, J.K. Rowling is a F-ing GENIUS!!!!!!!!

Ready...Set...

Chapter 4: Where are we?

When they landed, Draco was thoroughly confused. Not to say that he hadn’t been when Harry had charged into the interrogation room he was sequestered in and had utterly told of the Minister for Magic, but now he had been whisked away from the Ministry and side-along Apparated to a location he was not at all familiar with. He and, well, Lord Potter he supposed, were standing in front of a large wrought iorn gate flanked on either side by a chest high red brick wall that stretched in either direction as far as he could see. All he could see through the gate was a long pebble driveway lined with tall, ancient looking, trees and immaculately kept lawns. They were at a elevated altitude judging from slightly thinner air, and when Draco turned around, he could see a fairly large city in the distance and possibly the sea beyond that.

“Where are we?” Draco asked when he had once again found his composure, but Harry had not seemed to notice when he spoke. He was staring wide eyed at the gate before him. To be more accurate, he was staring at the large crest in the center of the gate. “Potter! Snap out of it! Where are we? Oh, in the name of Merlin, just touch the damn thing so we can go inside!”

“Huh? Oh, yeah,” Harry blushed slightly, letting his mask slip away, “its just the first time I’ve ever been here. Touch it you say?”

Draco just rolled his eyes and nodded to the enigma that was Harry Potter. At Draco’s rather pompous nod, Harry raised his left hand and placed it in the center of the crest. A moment passed before anything happened, and then Harry could feel the pleasant warmth of the ward’s magic caressing him gently in its acceptance of him as their master. When Harry dropped his hand the gates slowly opened wide before them, causing the glamour cast on the gates to open so that for the first time Harry was looking at the sprawling Mediterranean villa before him. Harry stepped through the gate, and waited for Draco to follow. When the young blonde did, the gates closed behind him, seemingly reading Harry’s mind he thought. In reality, that’s how they were charmed, to follow the will of their master without prompting.

Harry turned to look at Draco, and the blonde repeated his earlier question yet again. “Where are we Potter?” he said with a little irritation in his voice, but no real malice.

“Oh, yeah, this is the Villa Del Giglio. We’re just above Naples, and don’t worry about the ministry, they won’t even think to look for us here. Those buggers will most likely assume we went to Godric’s Hollow, or your manor,” Harry said with an open smile playing across his tanned face. “Come on, I’m hungry, and I bet the house elves would love someone to cook for after all this time.”

So they walked in the peaceful Mediterranean sun, enjoying the slight breeze that spread through the trees.

“Why did you do that? Back at the Ministry, you didn’t have to you know,” Draco said suddenly.

“I meant what I said, you are a hero of our struggle against Voldermort. You took a great risk telling me what you did. Going against your parents, some of the most fearsome Death Eaters there were. You don’t deserve that harassment,” Harry said, his low voice full of passion.

“What do you mean risk? I didn’t actually tell you anything. Not really. All I did was mention our ‘unpleasant house guest’ in charms once, and that not all snakes were as charming as Beltos (Beltos is Draco’s familiar, an albino python).”

“But it was a risk none the less. How many of your housemates parents knew where old snake face was hiding? Not to mention you passed me the information in the smartest way for a spy. Right out in the open, no sneaking so no suspicion. But people still could have caught on. By telling me that Riddle was staying at your manor you helped save thousands of lives, the least of which was mine.”

Draco nodded his understanding as they reached the steps to the veranda, still not comfortable with the praise the raven haired man laid upon him. Waiting on them there was a slightly older looking house elf clad in white pillow case with the potter crest emblazoned on its chest.

“Master Potter!!! I is so happy you come!” the excited little creature squealed, “I is Wheezy, what can Wheezy be doing for master, and master’s guest?”

“I believe we would like some lunch. Something simple, sandwiches perhaps, and a light white wine I believe,” Harry said to the excited elf. Hearing this the small creature nodded its head violently.

“Lunch will be served in the main courtyard in 15 minutes master. Your parents and grandparents did so love to eat there!”

With a small pop, the elf was gone. “Do you always have this effect on house elves Potter?” Draco said a bit snidely.

“Almost, but Kretcher doesn’t seem to like me. Hates me actually, seems to think I’m a blood traitor or something of the sort,” Harry said with a vague look. “Would you like to come inside, I would really like to look around at least a little before we eat.”

They stepped though the oak doors and into a bright and airy foyer. Harry paused, taking a deep breath and just letting his surroundings wash over him for a moment, before walking through the ground level of the house at a leisurely pace. In no time it seemed, Wheezy was back announcing lunch, and guiding them to the courtyard. It, like everything else so far, was flawlessly maintained, and richly appointed. The large glass topped table in the center of the courtyard was shaded by a floating canopy to sheild those eating from the sun yet being unobtrusive. The sounds of water greeted the ear from several small fountains placed expertly around the enclosure, and birds sang happily in the distance.

“This really is quiet lovely Potter, and I must say you look very appropriate in those robes. Those rags you used to wear were appalling, these are much better,” Draco said as they finished their lunch.

Sipping his wine, and enjoying the effects after such a long morning, Harry nodded graciously at the complement. “I agree. This has been quiet pleasant, wouldn’t you say. Not being at one another’s throats for once. I would like to do it again some time, perhaps later this week you could come back and we could go shopping in Rome?” Harry said, not bothering to question the tingle in his stomach when Draco smiled back at him.

“That would be nice, I think. Now that this war business is over it would be quite pleasant to get to know you, at least without our friend’s interfering. That red headed Weasel would shit a brick if he saw us like this, being civil and all.”

“Hey! Ron’s a nice guy,” Harry said quickly, “But I think you’re right. He’s not one to forget the past very easily, or to understand that not everyone can be as forthcoming with their true nature as he is. He doesn’t understand the need to hide aspects of someone’s personality. Not like us.”

“Us?” Draco raised a platinum eyebrow, “I always thought you were as open as a book when it came to that. Brash Gryffindor and all that.”

Harry let out a cackling laugh at Draco’s last comment, the wine was really starting to kick in, but Harry didn’t mind. He was enjoying the freedom that the alcohol was giving him. “I’m not as thoroughly Gryffindor as you think. I’ll tell you a secret, I was almost put in Slytherin. If you hadn’t been so snotty to Ron on the train in first year I probably wouldn’t have fought it.”

“Master,” Wheezy popped in saving Draco from the look of incredulity that Harry didn’t get a chance to see, “A owls have just arrived for you.”

“Very well,” Harry said with a sigh before turning back to Draco, “This has been nice Draco, but I’m afraid business calls.”

They made plans to meet later in the week before Draco flooed away, and when he left Harry felt the oddest pang of loss. “Okay Wheezy, about that owl?” Harry said to the elf.

“I is sorrys Master. There wasn’t no owl. It was the only thing Wheezy could think of to get Master’s guest away. It be time for master to gets sleep, Master will need it for tonight!” the elf said fearful that he would be punished for misleading his master.

“Okay then, could you show me to my chambers? And I think I will need something to help me fall asleep. Its still quiet early.”

The elf lead Harry to his rooms before giving him a large dose of Dreamless Sleep potion. Harry drank it down and undressed before crawling into the gigantic bed and letting the potion induced sleep take him away. He slept peacefully through the remainder of the afternoon and evening, time whisking away the remaining alcohol in his blood. Then at midnight there was a blinding light and a choked scream. Harry had woken up delirious from pain and his magical inheritance had begun.

another chapter down, short and sweet. what changes can we expect from harry's inheritance? will the truce between harry and draco hold? wait and see.

Kat: the minister, didn't bring Draco in himself, he sent out the order however, and when they brought him in, he couldn't resist the chance to vent some of his misguided hate. i see him as just that kind of man. as for your other question, the books say the potters didn't tell anyone about the secret keeper switch, but i don't see how Dumbles wouldn't have know since he cast the fidelus charm to begin with. thats just my p.o.v. but maybe ms. rowling will clarify next month when deathly hallows is released.

A/N: I won't be updating for a few days at least, i have to work tomorrow and i won't be able to write again until at least late monday, so look for something around tuesday or wendsday.

As always, reviews get my dick hard, so keep 'em coming!!!!
