ADEHR Ch 4
Outside the compartment, as Draco was on his way to get Hermione to go on patrol, for Head Girl duties, so he could get back to his seat for the rest of the train ride. He had the “honor” of being Head Boy this year. He stopped just out the compartment door when he heard music and someone singing. The person’s voice was perfect. The way he sang was so beautiful and that song, Draco new that song, he loved that song, but now he loved it even more. He had to find out who was singing. It would drive him crazy if he didn’t.
Just as he was about to open the door the singing stopped and he heard someone speak, quite loudly he might add.
“What the Bloody Hell just happened?” said a male voice.
“Ron, language!” that was obviously Granger unless Potter had been turned into a girl. He snorted at the mental picture that brought on.
“I have no idea but I plan to ask Dumbledore when we arrive, after the feast of course.”
‘Well I guess Potter wasn’t turned into a girl after all’ Draco thought. ‘But then that means…..Potter was the one singing!’, ‘But why?’. Draco stood there for a few minutes thinking about why the Golden boy would be singing until he remembered why he was there in the first place.
Draco knocked on the door and waited for the locking charm to be released. When the door was finally opened he was greeted with a scowl, from Granger, a look of pure hatred from the Weasel, and finally a blank look from Potter.
‘Just as it should be’ he thought.
“Granger, it’s your turn to patrol the corridors so you can relieve me of my head Boy duties.” He stated matter of factly. This was surprising because he usually demanded things to be done.
“Oh, ok Malfoy, I’ll be right out.” replied Granger.
“Good, then I’ll be going.” He replied lamely and turned to leave.
“Well I guess I’ll catch up with you guys at the feast then.” He heard Granger say as she left the compartment.
He slowed his pace so he could give her time to catch up to him. He had a few questions for his newly acquired roommate.
“Hey Granger, what was with the music that was coming out of your compartment?” he questioned nonchalantly.
She looked slightly shocked that Malfoy would even be talking to her, but decided to answer the question none the less.
“Uh I’m not exactly sure, it kind of just started out of no where and Harry just started singing. I’m not even sure what song it was. I’ve never heard it before, so I don’t know if the reason was tied to the song or what. It was very strange.”
“The song is called A bad dream, it’s by Keane, a muggle band. I quite like it myself.” He said as if it should be common knowledge who Keane is.
Granger was surprised by this information. She had no idea that Malfoy listened to muggle music and she said as much. He just shrugged it off as if it were nothing, not everything from the muggle world is hated by Malfoys, his father used to listen to muggle music all the time.
“But why do you care anyway.” asked Granger.
“I don’t I was just curious as to why he was singing, It’s not everyday that you hear someone randomly singing a song on the Hogwarts express.”
“Well this is where I stop so I’ll leave to your duties, good day Granger.” and then he just disappeared inside his compartment.
Blaise was already there and was very curious as to why he was talking to Granger in such a civilized way, weren’t they supposed to be enemies.
“Draco why were you conversing with Granger, don’t you hate her?”
“I never actually hated her personally, I was just taught to hate what she was, a Mudblood, but what does it matter, it’s my business if I want to talk to Granger if I want.” He said in a way that meant ‘That is the end of this conversation so shut up about it’ and Blaise did.
“So how was your summer?” Blaise asked changing the subject quickly.
“It was amazing, I went all over the world this summer even to Atlantis. It was a blast, I have never been to so many places in one summer!” Draco exclaimed.
He and Blaise, and Pansy, Vince, and Greg when they arrived, continued to talk about everything that went on this summer. When they were almost to the castle Draco decided he would tell them about what he had heard when he went to get Granger for Head Girl duties.
“Oh guys you will never believe what I heard when I had to go and get Granger for Head Girl duties.” He paused for dramatic effect. When they all just stood there expecting him to continue he did.
“I heard Potter singing, just randomly singing, for absolutely no reason .”
“Singing? Blimey if that boy doesn’t weirder every year” Blaise said.
“ I know but the weird thing is, he was good” Draco continued.
“Well of course he was good, he’s the Golden Boy, he’s good at everything, except potions.” chortled Pansy.
“Well that’s true, that boy couldn’t make a decent potion to save his life.” laughed Blaise.
“We should get going so we can get a carriage to ourselves, I don’t want to have to ride with any one I don’t like.” Draco said as he was walking down the steps of the train.
“Yeah, I definitely don’t want to have to ride with one of the Weasels all the way to the castle.”
As Blaise said this they all hurried to where the carriages were and climbed in one and just began to talk about all the things they were going to do after they got out of school.
Just as he was about to open the door the singing stopped and he heard someone speak, quite loudly he might add.
