Chapter Three: Questioning Evil
Draco was perplexed. “Why would I ever dream of following you?”
Harry smirked. It was a look that Draco had never seen on the boy’s face. “You will follow me because I will be the next Dark Lord. You will follow me because you are afraid not to. But most of all, you will follow me because you want to.”
“Why would I want to follow you. Your just a blind half-blood with delusions of grandeur” The conversation was not like Draco’s previous encounters with the boy, no, Harry was too calm for that, “I have even less reason to follow you than I had to follow You-Know-Who.”
“I have been watching you for six years, I know what you want by now. You will follow me, I have the power to make you greater then you already are.”
This was becoming unreal for Draco, this boy seemed to have very different ideas then the Potter he remembered from school, but there was no way it could be anyone else. “You could never be a Dark Lord, not even if Dumbledore told you that it would save millions so you had to!”
“Obviously you don’t know me very well, Malfoy. But if you wish to stand against me, I will, sadly, have to kill you.” Harry stated, his eyes almost looked sad.
Draco was, for perhaps the first time in his life, at a loss for words. Was he to believe the Gryffindor? He knew that Harry was known never to lie, but how could he believe that this boy, no, not a boy, man, that had destroyed the master of his father, would be the next to follow that path to become the next Dark Lord.
“I will give you time to think,” Harry stood to leave, “but at some point you will have to make a choice.” The ‘Gryffindor’ turned on his heal and walked away with the book.
Draco’s eyes followed Harry as the black haired boy left the store. Once the door had closed behind him, Draco sighed and turned back to the books around him. He had things to do, now was not the time to think about the strange conversation he had just had, he had other things to do today.
.~*~.
Harry left The Spine, book in hand. He knew that Windel had placed the charge on his account.
Before leaving Knockturn Alley, Harry looked out to see how full the streets were getting. There were enough people out that he knew he would have to keep the glamor charm on until he got to his apartment.
He quickly crossed the slowly filling alley, keeping his head bowed and his eyes averted from everything but the ground below him and the book in his hands. Though it was not a long walk to the building, nor a great many stairs to climb, he found that it was long enough for him to ponder what had just happened.
He had been seen and recognized, not by some random person, but by his rival. By Draco Malfoy. The person he was most worried about finding his secret was well on the road to knowing.
Perhaps it seems strange that Harry would be worried about Malfoy knowing his ambition to be Dark Lord, but truly it made sense. Malfoy was the only person he knew that he was unsure of what side that they would take. Harry was worried that Malfoy would stand against him merely because he was Harry Potter, the sodding Boy-Who-Lived.
.~*~.
Draco found several books on cursed weaponry. In the end he purchased three books, but as he walked towards the counter, he passed the stack that Harry had been sitting at.
That pile of books made him think.
Why would Harry Potter, of all people, want to be the next Dark Lord? I can’t understand it. His parents were killed by Lord Voldemort. Dumblebee has been like a father to him since he got to Hogwarts, always giving him the benefit of the doubt. He has a Mudblood for a friend, as well as Muggle lovers. None of it makes sense. He probably was even raised by a loving muggle family.
Draco walked to the counter and paid for his books. They were put into one of the magically sealed bags that so many of the Dark Arts shops had, then shrunk and put into a pocket.
Why do I have any reason to join him? Other than the fact that he plans to be the Dark Lord-but I could be a better Dark Lord than he could. He probably doesn’t know anything about the Dark Arts.
Draco left Knockturn Alley and made his way to Diagon Alley’s more mundane wizarding shops. He tried to keep thoughts of his and Harry’s conversation out of his head, though he didn’t do so well at it.
Perhaps I will join him. Then, I could learn more about him. If I’m really good I could probably become his second-like Father was to Lord Voldemort- Then it would only be a matter of time before I could take over. He’s a Gryffindor...they are so weak I could probably take over within the first month.
He strode towards Flourish and Blots. He had to purchase his school books. There were quite a few new ones. Arithmancy was going to be a heavy workload this year.
But what would I do with him once I took over. he laughed to himself, Oh I don’t know, but whatever it was, it would be fun. This brought back thoughts of his dream from the night before. He shook his head. No, I can’t think of that right now. We are too different for that. He would have to be under imperious or something to agree.
Draco sighed and went on to finish his shopping.
