Chapter 3

September passed into October. As promised, Anakin began teaching Hermione the history of the Jedi. He also helped her improve her Jedi skills; He was quite impressed with how brilliant she really was.

‘Not only is she smart, but she’s beautiful as well. Oh no. I think I may be falling in love with her.’ Anakin thought worriedly as he sat in the back of the potions classroom.

Hermione had finished brewing her potion and was cleaning up her desk. She was desperately trying to push away the thoughts that were currently flooding her mind.

‘Face it girl. You’ve gone and fallen in love with a JedI. A Master at that.’ Her mind said.

‘Shut up! I’m not in love with Anakin.’ She shot back.

‘Right, and Voldemort is the tooth fairy.’ Her mind chuckled.

“You all right Hermione?” Draco asked as they exited the potions classroom.

“Yeah, just doing some thinking.” She answered.

“How’s the body guard doing?” Ron teased.

“He’s doing fine, I forget he’s there most of the time. Which works out well for me. You know, so I still have some freedom and privacy.” She answered.

Her friends nodded in understanding. They knew how much Hermione enjoyed her privacy to study freely whenever she wanted. The four Gryffindors made their way into Professor Flintwick’s class. As usual, Anakin took his place at the back of the room.

The day continued on. At dinner, Anakin sat at Gryffindor table near her. Watching as her face would light up as she laughed and chatted with her friends. Right at the end of the meal, Albus got to his feet.

“May I have everyone’s attention please. Thank you. On Halloween night there will be a masquerade ball. The ball is open to third years and up. If you need help with your costumes, please contact your head of house. Thank you.” Albus announced.

As everyone headed for bed, they began talking excitedly about the upcoming ball. Hermione listened as Ron, Draco and Harry began talking about what their costumes would be.

“Well, see you in the morning. Is Anakin going to Hogsmeade with us in the morning?” Harry asked.

“Yes. I’ll meet you guys in the Great Hall at breakfast. Night.” Hermione answered.

The boys entered the Gryffindor common room, while Hermione and Anakin headed for her rooms. Once inside, Anakin and Hermione sat on the sofa facing the fireplace.

“Have you any ideas for a costume for this ball?” Anakin asked.

“Not really. I’m sure something will come to me in the morning.” Hermione answered.

Anakin nodded. The two got comfortable and as usual, Anakin began telling her the history of the JedI. Hermione had instantly fallen in love with his voice. It was so calming to her. She felt as if she could listen to him talk all day. After an hour, Anakin saw that she had fallen asleep.

He smiled slightly as he gently gathered her into his arms. She snuggled closer to his chest as he made his way to her bedroom. He carefully laid her on the bed. He bent down and removed her shoes and socks, then tucked her in.

“Sleep well Hermione.” He whispered.

Before he left, he leaned down and pressed his lips to hers. The kiss was short, but had given him a taste of her that he hadn’t even realized, he had been hungering for. He quickly turned and exited the room and entered his.

“That’s Zonko’s over there.” Ron pointed out as he, Anakin, Hermione, Harry, and Draco made their way through Hogsmeade.

“Oh, that’s the Three Broomsticks over there. Hermione, you’ve got to let him try a butterbeer.” Ron insisted.

“I intend to Ron, after I start looking for my costume for the ball.” Hermione laughed.

Anakin smiled as he watched her interact with her friends. It reminded him of himself and his friends back on Tatoieen. Hermione and Anakin split away from the boys and made their way toward the costume shop.

“Welcome to Madame Laura’s Costume Creations.” A sales clerk greeted as the pair entered the shop.

Hermione began looking through the many costumes, while Anakin stayed out of her way. Finally, she found the perfect costume and showed it to the Master Jedi.

“What do you think?” She asked.

“I think it’s perfect.” He answered.

Hermione nodded and carried the costume and matching mask up to the register to pay for it. Once it was paid for and sent up to her rooms at Hogwarts, she led Anakin over to the Three Broomsticks. They found a booth at the back, and Hermione quickly ordered two butterbeers.

“I know you’re going to like these.” She said.

“I’m sure I will Hermione.” He smiled.

“So, what is Coruacant like?” She asked.

“It’s very fast paced. The entire planet is one giant city, so you can guess what it’s like.” He answered.

“It sounds nice. Is it beautiful?” She asked.

“Some parts are, others aren’t. Just like most cities.” He replied.

The two sat there drinking their drinks. Anakin did enjoy his butterbeer. Just as they finished their drinks, Harry and Draco entered the pub and joined them. The four began talking about the upcoming ball.

“So, Anakin, will you be dressing up as well?” Draco asked.

“I will be wearing my JedI uniform. I am here to protect Hermione.” Anakin answered.

“Surely you can have a little bit of fun.” Harry said.

“If you mean will I be dancing, then the answer is probably yes. That is if anyone asks me.” Anakin replied.

Hermione and Anakin’s eyes met. Hermione felt her heart flutter. She knew she was definitely falling in love with the JedI. She could also see that Anakin was feeling something for her as well. These new feelings were scaring her, because she knew that even though she was falling for him, they could never be.

“Well, I’m going to head back to the castle. I have a few things I need to finish.” Hermione said.

“You need to loosen up Mione. You work too hard.” Draco teased.

“Draco’s right. It’s our final year. We are allowed to have a little bit of fun.” Harry added.

“Guys, I plan on having fun this year. It’s just, I promised Professor Dumbledore I would do a little bit of research for him and I just need to finish it up. That’s all.” Hermione said.

The two young wizards nodded as Hermione and Anakin got to their feet. Hermione paid for their drinks, waved to the two boys and she and Anakin left the pub. The two made their way from the village back toward the castle. Hermione noticed how Anakin seemed to be walking just a little closer.

‘Get over it girl. You and him can’t be together. He’s a JedI. They are forbidden to fall in love.’ She thought as they neared the castle.

‘What am I going to do? I know I love her, but what about the Order? It’s forbidden, but yet it feels so right being with her.’ Anakin thought as he watched the young woman who was walking beside him.
