Chapter 4

Remus sat there at the Gryffindor table staring at his plate that night. He lazily poked at his steak with his fork, his thoughts on an obvious subject. He missed Severus, though they had just been together almost all day.

Elsewhere, Severus was staring at the back of Remus’s head. He noticed Remus hadn’t eaten anything yet and began to feel concerned. He smiled at this caring thought; he really did love Remus.

“Sev’!” He heard a voice call from a couple students down.

“What?” he asked, seeing it was Avery.

“The hell you staring at?” His fellow Slytherin friend asked.

Severus shook his head. “Nothing.” He said, breaking his gaze from his love. “But... boy do I want to hex Black and Potter right now....” He added, making up a story Avery would believe. It was true anyways.

“Yeah, we should curse them.” Avery said to him, “...Tonight.”

Severus gazed at him. “Tonight?” He repeated, “When tonight?”

“They always roam around the halls at night before curfew. Let’s do it an hour before we have to be back in the dungeons.” He said devilishly.

Severus nodded, “Lets.” ‘Let’s leave them alone for now...’ He added as an afterthought as he saw Avery cast James a nasty look. Severus didn’t intend for this to happen with his lie; for Avery to come up with this sudden plan. Though he hated James and Sirius with every bone in his body, they were Remus’s friends. But he guessed he had to go. It would lead to awkward questions from his gang if he didn’t.

When dinner ended, Remus, Sirius, James and Peter headed towards Gryffindor Tower. They would hang out in the corridors every night, laughing and making plans for adventures.

“...You guys come with us tonight. It’ll be me, Severus, and you all against the bloody lot of them.” Avery said, pacing around the Slytherin common room and instructing the gang. “Bring your wands, obviously. We’re going to make Potter and Black suffer especially. They’ll wish they never came to this school when we’re through with them. Now drink up and follow me.”

The gang gave grunts of approval and took swigs of the firewhisky they were indulging in. Severus smirked as he drank from his bottle; his hate for James and Sirius was swirling around in him at the moment along with the alcohol. He had forgotten to think what they were doing was wrong.

“...And then–she told me it was the best day she ever had and that I had really changed for the better.” James said happily to his friends. He turned to pat Remus on the back. “All thanks to you Moony.” He beamed.

Remus blushed. “Nah, mate. You’ve smartened up without my help.”

James shrugged, “Yeah... I guess I kinda have.”

“Well at least your day was better than mine.”

James laughed. “True, Padfoot. But next time ask around about the whole boyfriend thing before you make a move on another girl.”

“Hah...” Sirius huffed, “What did you guys do today while all this was happening anyways?” He said to Peter and Remus.

Peter squirmed uncomfortably.

Remus cleared his throat, “We... er... we went down to Zon–“

“AAAAARGH!”

“Prongs!” Sirius cried.

Remus’s eyes went wide and he stopped mid-sentence, his friend having been knocked to the ground forcefully.

“Hello, you great gits!” Avery spat viciously, “Having fun?”

The whole gang was in the corridor, making their way quickly towards the four friends.

Bellatrix shrieked with laughter, pointing her wand at Peter where Peter was immediately stunned and collapsed to the floor, though nothing had escaped Bellatrix's lips.

‘So they're using nonverbal spells.’ Remus thought. ‘What cowardice...’

“Fuck off!” Sirius barked, his wand pointed towards him. “You pussys! Fight fair!”

“It’s fair to us. Don’t act like you don’t know how to do them yourself.” Avery shot.

“You’re all cowards!” Sirius bellowed, “This is not a true wizard’s duel, you fucking pricks!”

“Now now Black... wouldn’t want to end up like your friends now would you? Or... would you?” Avery said, a wicked grin forming along his mouth.

He shot a glance at Severus and Severus nodded, jerking the wand he had out in front of him slightly and sending Black flying against the wall before he could defend himself.

Remus watched in horror as his friend hit the wall, hard, and slid down on his back against it, landing in a heap on the floor. He glanced back at his love, who he saw had hate burning in his eyes as he stared down at Sirius’s body.

Remus couldn’t believe it; Severus had done this... but why? His heart suddenly felt cold... he felt hollow.

The gang members were laughing viciously now.

“Now it’s just the shabby boy’s turn!” Bellatrix jeered.

Remus didn’t care. He was too cold...

“Look at him just standing there.” Avery lashed out, “Fucking faggot.”

There was a flash of silver light and then a thud.

Avery was on the floor, nonmoving.

Remus continued to stand there, stunned. He hadn’t done it... but then... who did?

“He’s used a non-verbal spell!” A voice rang out.

Remus looked up at the person who had spoken. He looked at Severus, and he understood.

Severus looked into Remus’s eyes and he shot Remus a furtive glance.

“Play along, my love...” A mystic voice said from inside Remus’s head. He understood once more; Severus had just used legilimens.

Remus made his expression livid. “If you’re playing dirty, so am I.” He said shrewdly, fingering his wand.

“Get him!” Bellatrix shrieked.

‘Rictusempra!’ Remus cried in his head. Bellatrix was thrown in the air, flipping over backwards, and then she landed hard on her buttocks. She yelped in pain.

The others all looked fearful despite the fact that they outnumbered the boy in patched robes. All except Severus, who kept his expression enigmatic.

“Leave him to me... you go back–take Avery to the hospital wing.” Severus said, his features alit with seriousness and leadership. He held his wand up high, advancing on Remus with a determined glint in his eye as his fellows left with Avery quickly, Bellatrix, rubbing her bottom, trudging along after them.

Remus watched as he came near, exhaling in relief as he waited for Severus to change his expression when his fellows left to something more content. But he didn’t. He was still eyeing Remus in this reckless way. Remus became fearful.

“Severus...” Remus squeaked, taking a few steps back.

Severus did not seem to even hear him as he got closer. He was now about three steps away. He raised his wand and dug it into Remus’s throat.

“You...” He croaked.

Remus felt tears welling up in his eyes... why we he doing this? He thought Severus loved him.

“Severus, please...” He whimpered.

His love’s eyes burned with a longing that looked like it could not be stopped. And then he swooped down upon Remus and kissed him.

Remus gasped into his mouth, taken by complete surprise. He felt Severus grinning into his mouth, apparently pleased by having bewildered Remus so.

Severus pulled away and Remus licked his lips, tasting alcohol.

“You’ve been drinking.” He whispered concernedly, all too aware that his mates were still laying unconscious on the ground.

“Don’t worry about it.” Severus said. “I’m sorry about... Black.”

“You shouldn’t have done that.”

Oh, tell me why are the castles way up high?

“Well what was I supposed to do? Say, ‘No I don’t think I want to... I think Black is a rather cool guy at the moment.’” Severus spat.

Remus sighed. “I don’t like this.”

“I don’t either, but if we don’t want them finding out then we have to.”

“True...” Remus said. “It’s almost curfew, you should go down to the dungeons... and I have to revive these guys.”

“Alright. I’ll tell them I hexed you but I thought I saw Black moving a little while I was leaving... make it seem like he revived you all.”

“You really are a Slytherin, aren’t you?” Remus chuckled.

“Don’t you love it?” Severus teased.

Remus wrapped his arms around Severus’s middle, kissing him deeply. “Yes...” He breathed into the kiss.

“I’ll see you tomorrow sweetie.” Severus said, giving Remus’s shoulder a meaningful squeeze.

Remus went in for another kiss; he was purposely delaying the time when they had to leave each other.

This one lasted longer, their tongues twirling around, wrestling in each other’s mouths. Remus felt himself losing the battle and lowered his hands, squeezing his handsome man’s firm butt. It worked. He wrenched his tongue forward and shoved it down Severus’s throat. After a while, he laughed, not meaning to... and pulled away.

“Is that firewhisky I tasted?” He asked, grinning.

“Maybe... why don’t you check sexy?”

Remus kissed Severus again, sucking on his lower lip and running his tongue along it lustfully. He moved his hands back from behind Severus and began to play with his belt line.

Severus let out a moan, urging Remus on wordlessly.

Remus began stroking Severus’s member through his pants while continuing to kiss him passionately. He went down lower and started massaging the delighted boy’s balls vigorously, getting an instantaneous moan out of him.

“Oh, Remus...” Severus gasped.

A shuffling sound came from the floor and Remus’s heart leapt out of his chest, releasing Severus. He whipped around to see James stirring around on the floor.

Severus wasted no time at all and he sped off down the corridor.

Remus’s eyes followed him as he ran, and he let out a deep sigh.

He looked back down to the floor James had not awaken, he had just shifted–maybe beginning to regain consciousness.

Remus revived them all in a matter of two minutes.

“Wha... What happened?” Sirius groaned, blinking as he stood up from the floor.

“The gang left. Went to bring Avery tot the hospital wing or to the dungeons since its past curfew. I got Bellatrix and Severus–Snivellus.” He corrected himself quickly. He felt a nervous chill crawl down his back.

“Oho! He took out Snivelly! Good work Moony.” James said happily, rubbing the back of his head.

“Yeah.” Peter cried.

“Those bloody old toerags... I could have taken them.” Sirius growled as they all began walking towards the portrait hole. “It’s lucky you took Snivelly out–he’s pretty advanced this year I noticed. I’m impressed. What’d you do to him?”

“I, um... stunned him.” Remus replied as James muttered the password and the portrait swung open.

"Ah." Sirius replied, nodding.

Remus grinned slyly, ‘I stunned him alright.’
