Interlude

Disclaimer: I don’t own Harry Potter.

Interlude.

Harry happily made his way to the divination class early the next morning. Hoping that Trelawney wasn’t there Harry poked his head through the trap door. Sighing in relief when he saw no one he made his way in.

“Now if I was a clue were would I be?” Harry asked himself. Looking around the room he tried to figure out where his game master would put the clue. Scanning the room he nearly shout with joy when he saw a note with a little snake insignia staring at him from Trelawney’s table.

Looking at his watch Harry saw that he had enough time to read his next clue before having to go to breakfast.

‘Harry

If you are reading this you obviously figured out the last clue. I’m so proud of you. Yes I know it was rather hard but you can’t expect me to go easy on you can you? Well here is the next clue.

This is where we are brought to sleep
Although we have never been alive
Out on the ground you keep us safe
For when the weather does decline

Longer clue for you but I have faith that you’ll get it.’

Sighing Harry made his way down to breakfast. This clue was even harder then the last. He was glad that his game master had faith in him because he was losing it.

“Harry.” No answer. “Harry.” Still nothing. “HARRY!”

Harry jumped as his name was screamed into his ear. Looking around he noticed an annoyed Hermione frowning at him.

“Why’d you do that?” He asked as he rubbed his ear.

“We need to get going or else we’ll be late for potions and you know how Snape is.” She said.

“But Hermione there’s still lots of time.” Ron whined as he looked at his food.

“No you two we are going to be going now so that there is no chance of you two being late and loosing points.” The girl snapped.

“What’s up with her?” Ron asked as Hermione left.

“Don’t know.” Harry replied giving his half eaten breakfast a last look.

Harry couldn’t concentrate. He knew that he really should since Snape was in a bad mood and ready to give detention for anything but he just couldn’t. The third clue was running through his head and he couldn’t for the life of him get it out. This clue was by far harder then the last and as such was begging him to solve it.

“Mr Potter!” Oh no! Was all Harry had time to think before he looked up into the dark eyes of his potion’s teacher.

“Yes sir.” He said.

“What might I ask is so important that it takes your attention away from my class?” All Harry did was drop his gaze. “Nothing? Well then you can think of nothing during your detention tonight.”

Harry sighed as Snape gave an evil smirk. He should have seen it coming but at least there is a bright side. While he did whatever mindless task Snape gave him he could work through his clue. Looking around Harry sighed again as he saw Hermione’s disapproving look. He was so going to get it.

“I can’t believe you!” Hermione said again as she had for the past half hour. After potion’s Harry’s day had just got worse. He wasn’t allowed a moments peace with Hermione on his case and Ron trying to make him feel better. This meant that he hadn’t had anytime for his clue. And now it was nearly time for him to go to his detention.

“’Mione I have to go.” Harry finally said.

The dungeons were cold as usual as Harry made his way to the potions class. After knocking Harry went in to find that it was empty.

“No big loss.” He shrugged as he started thinking about his clue.

‘This is where we are brought to sleep’

Alright so it’s where something sleeps or rests. That should be a bed but people go to bed they aren’t brought. The infirmary Harry thought was a place that people are taken and Madame Pomfrey makes sure they rest.

But Harry never got to the second part as the door to the class opened and in walked.

“Malfoy?” Harry questioned hardly believing that the Slytherin prince would have detention.

“Potter.” The blonde replied.

“What are you doing here?” Harry asked.

“I’m here to supervise your detention. Seems Snape didn’t want to put up with you.”

“Oh.” Was all Harry could say. “So what am I supposed to do?”

“Cauldrons.” Malfoy said with a wave of his hand. Following the hand Harry saw the cauldrons that were stacked in the sinks. Sighing he made his way to the sinks.

This is good Harry thought. What better mindless task then cleaning cauldrons. He would have time to think.

So the first part was most likely the infirmary. Alright now the second part of the clue.

‘Although we have never been alive’

Scrap the first thought. It can’t be the infirmary. People who are alive go there. Turning his head to the side as he scrubbed a cauldron Harry tried to think if Hogwarts had a graveyard. But then a familiar prickling feeling started. The same feeling he had had the day before in the entrance hall. Turning around he saw Malfoy’s mercury eyes staring at him.

“Yes?” He snapped upset that he was being brought out of his thoughts.

“Nothing.” Malfoy said turning his head away. Harry snorted before going back to scrubbing before. Was Malfoy blushing? Of course not his mind told him. Alright now back to the clue. Deciding that he wasn’t going to get the first bit he went on to the third part.

‘Out on the ground you keep us safe’

So wherever this was it was on the grounds and presumably not in the castle. So it could be a graveyard but then you put people who were alive in a graveyard and the clue states that they have never been alive. So Harry thought it’s probably a storage place of sorts out on the grounds. Smiling at the fact that he had finally got part of the clue Harry looked at how many cauldrons were still left.

Still a lot he thought miserably. But on the lighter side he had more time to think and hopefully figure out the clue. On to the last part.

‘For when the weather does decline’

That was kind of self-explanatory. It’s somewhere you store something when the weather is bad. But what do you want to protect from the weather. It could be a tool shed by the green house. But the tools are kept in the green houses so that was out. Now lets think about this Harry sighed it’s outside and you put inanimate objects in it after you’ve used them.

Now if only he could figure out what it was that you store outside after using it.

“Potter!” Harry for the second time that day jumped as someone shouted at him.

“What?”

“I said you could go.”

“Well you didn’t have to yell at me!” Harry exclaimed as he spun around to face the blonde.

“Well I wouldn’t have to if you weren’t staring off into space like a fool.” Malfoy retaliated.

“I’m not a fool!” Harry said as he stepped closer to the other.

“Yes you are.” Malfoy drawled.

“Even if I am it’s better then being a spoilt brat little brat like you.”

“Everyone wants to be me Potter.” Malfoy said. Harry swallowed as he suddenly came to grips with how close they were. He could practically feel Malfoy’s breath on his face.

“Don’t kid yourself.” Harry said. He was about to say more when two warm moist lips covered his. Harry was shocked Malfoy was kissing him and for the life of him he couldn’t pull away.
After a while they pulled apart for air. Malfoy gave Harry’s lips one look before he all but ran from the room.

That night Harry lay in bed thinking about Malfoy. Why had he kissed him? Why hadn’t he pushed him away? What was going on? With all these thought in his head Harry went to sleep.

Alright so Harry will most likely figure out the clue next time.
Tell me what you think.
Jinx.
