Chapter 4
Sirius smiled, dreaming. He felt someone poking his shoulder but he was dreaming so pleasantly he decided to ignore it. He frowned when he felt the poking increasing and huffily rolled to the other side of the bed trying to get away. He stretched his legs under his sheets still dreaming.
“Sirius?” Sirius frowned. It seemed that he wasn’t going to be left alone. He quickly hid his face under the covers when he felt the curtains open. “Sirius, are you awake?”
“Leavemealonereggie” Sirius muttered. He was on the most interesting part of his dream. The part when Ana wrinkled her nose again. Sirius opened his eyes immediately when he noticed who he was dreaming about. What on earth was he thinking? That girl was the cause of all of his problems. Well, at least the latest ones. Sirius sprang out of his sheets and found Regulus’s face in front of him. “What do you want Reggie? It is too early for you to pester me!”
“Mother says you have to get ready” Regulus shrugged “And it is not too early! It’s almost seven in the morning!”
“What? I usually get up at ten or eleven!” Sirius huffed “It’s still dark!”
“It is not dark Sirius!” Regulus laughed “The sun is already up! And mother is not in a good mood because of waiting for you ... your breakfast is served in the kitchen … Mother says you’re not allowed to eat with us anymore!” Regulus stared at Sirius with sadly eyes. He didn’t like the way his parents were treating Sirius but he was too afraid to say anything. “I wanted to be with you but Father said I can’t”
“Don’t worry Reg!” Sirius shrugged. “I really don’t care. I never liked eating at the same table as Mother and Father” Sirius was lying. Though it seemed he didn’t care for his parents, he secretly wished for them to love him. He always wanted them to give him a little bit of affection. He jumped out of his bed looking for something to wear. “I’ll be ready in a minute! Don’t worry Reggie; I will not get in trouble today!” Sirius smiled at Regulus and started to change his clothes. He was sure it was going to be a really awful day for him. He ran downstairs to the kitchen for breakfast. Kreacher was rubbing the floor muttering and complaining as usual. “What’s up Kreacher?” Sirius gave Kreacher a face scoff “Go up and make my bed!”
“Kreacher will not pay attention to young master prat. Mistress said I should not listen to young Master’s orders!” Kreacher lowered his head avoiding Sirius’s questioning eyes. ”Kreacher always do as Mistress says!”
“Whatever!” Sirius rolled his eyes. He couldn’t stand the house elf. It makes him sick every time Kreacher was worshiping his parents. Sirius sat at the table staring disgusted at his cold breakfast. “I bet these are left over of everybody else’s breakfast!”
“Young Master Prat is talking to Kreacher!” Kreacher continued scrubbing the floor “Kreacher will do as he’s not listening!”
“I know you are stupid house elf. You can’t avoid listening with that big pair of ears you have!” Sirius glared at Kreacher. Having a house elf wasn’t good, but having Kreacher was the worse thing that could happen to him. Sirius stared once more at his breakfast and pushed it away.
“Young Master Prat should be eating his breakfast like Mistress ordered!” Sirius stood up angry and tried to kick the house elf. Kreacher quickly disapparated and Sirius kicked the air. He slipped and fell hitting the floor. That definitely was not the best way to start his day. He dusted off his robes and poured himself a glass of milk. Sirius sat again at the table wondering what else this ‘amazing’ day was about to bring him. He was absent minded when his mother came into the kitchen. He jumped out of his chair when she placed a big pile of books in front of him.
“Your father wants you to start your training today” Mrs. Black said coldly. Sirius stared at her. No good morning, no hellos, just cold words for him. Sirius sighed and started to run his finger over the edge of the glass. Mrs. Black didn’t look at him. “At the end of the week your cousins, Bellatrix and Narcissa, will check how much you’ve advanced” At this point Sirius’s face turned pale. Of all the family members, he hated Bellatrix and Narcissa the most. “They kindly offered their help while they’re on vacation. Their mother did a great job with them; they’re the perfect example of a Black!” Sirius was immune to that kind of comment. If there was anything in the world he didn’t want to be was a Black. “I expect you to start your duties in fifteen minutes!” Mrs. Black walked away leaving Sirius alone at the kitchen.
Sirius finished his milk and stood up grabbing the books. He walked to the room next door and sat in front of a huge old desk. He wondered how on earth he was going manage learning all this books in a week without a teacher. He wasn’t thrilled about reading. He always hated that part. His last tutor, a nice young witch, said he was intelligent but lazy. Sirius smiled remembering how much fun he had when he was learning with her. He was a fast learner, and he always managed to get no homework at all. Miss Libertas, that was her name, always had a smile for Regulus and him. Mother wasn’t amused with the way Miss Libertas treated them and fired her when summer started. Sirius and Regulus cried for a week. Miss Libertas was the only nice person that talked with them. Sirius didn’t understand why Mother hated Miss Libertas. She was also a pureblood though she didn’t share the same theories. She was the one that taught Sirius that wizard and witches were all the same no matter which blood they carried in their veins.
Sirius opened the first book of the pile. There was not a single picture in the book. The pages were filled with words and long sentences he didn’t understand. He scouted a few more pages of the book and finally plopped his head on the desk feeling hopeless. He was never going to be able to finish all the books in one week. He wasn’t going to be able to finish ONE book in one week. Regulus was the one that loved reading; he was more like the ‘nerdy kind’. Sirius laughed at the term. Regulus hated when he called him that. He slyly scattered his eyes across the room searching for something he could use for fun. The old clock was tic-tocking and he started to fell asleep. ‘Tic-tock’ He closed his eyelids ‘Tic-tock’ He opened them again ‘Tic-tock’ He closed them again, this time a little longer. ‘Gong’ Sirius jumped out of the chair and stared at the clock. An hour had passed and he still was on the first sentence. Boy, he was going to have trouble!
Sirius wiped the sleep from his eyes. Maybe if Mother let him drink coffee instead of tea he would be less sleepy. But she thought coffee was not a proper drink for a kid of his age, besides, tea was fancier. Sirius stiffed his mouth and raised his eyebrow mocking his mother and laughed softly again. This time a loud snort came out from his mouth and he placed his hands over his mouth trying to silence his snorts. He heard someone at the door. Then Mother was talking with someone. He heard fake laughs and then footsteps approaching to the room. He quickly returned to his bored face and fixed his eyes on the book.
“Sirius” Mrs. Black stood up in front of the door “Luckily for you, you will not be studying alone anymore” Sirius sighed thinking about his brother. He was sure Mother wanted to pester him a little more. “Mrs. Prince and I agreed that Ana will be joining you in your training for Hogwarts! And your father and I decide that Regulus is joining you too! That way they’ll keep an eye on you!” Sirius rolled his eyes. Not only was his poor brother going to be tortured with the studying. Now they were increasing his suffering by bringing that snobby girl. Sirius huffed quietly. “She’ll be here at any minute with your new tutor”
‘That’s just great!’ Sirius thought for himself and frowned. His day was heading to be the worse day of his entire life. ‘I am never going to finish this book if that snobby girl comes! I’ll be too distracted with all the nose wrinkling!” Sirius slapped his own face and frowned once more wondering why in the world the roof wasn’t falling on his head. Again he heard footsteps and someone at the door.
