A Solution

Chapter 4: A solution
From the minute Hermione learnt that she might fall into Lucius Malfoy's clutches, she was on autopilot. Scared didn’t even start to cover how she felt. Even her Gryffindor courage disappeared. But, after learning that Professor Snape would be going instead of her, all the tension that built up went away. Though in the back of her mind, it irked her that she was now in debt with her snarky, greasy, Professor, the delight of not being sold into slavery covered up all of her other emotions. All she had to do was research. The thing she did best.
She was given a pretty difficult task. She had to help Snape find a potion that would allow him to look like Hermione. The problem was though, that the Polyjuice Potion couldn’t be used, because it only stayed effective for an hour. Upon being given such a challenge, Hermione was totally immersed in her work. She seemed to think that the best way to go about solving this problem was to make the polyjuice potion, while tweaking a few ingredients here and there to allow it to stay effective longer. Unfortunately, The Potions Master disagreed. He started to search old archives for potions that would give him the desired results.
Fed up with his stubbornness, Hermione decided to gout about solving this problem on her own. She spent hour after hour pouring over books, and taking notes. She researched the special ingredients, which allowed the Polyjuice Potion to change the drinkers’ appearance, and their properties.
Finally, after giving this challenge her undying attention for 36 hours, she came up with a solution. She took a previously made flask of polyjuice potion, and poured the potion into a lit couldron, and let it sit until the potion started to bubble. Then, she took the boomslang, which was the main ingredient that gave the Polyjuice Potion its unique characteristics, and pointed her wand towards it. She slowly and clearly said "Maneo Parilis" with a flick of her wand. A light green light shot out of her wand, and enveloped the boomslang. The entire boomslang began to glow, and suddenly it stopped. Hermione then added to boomslang to the potion and stirred it until the potion turned a dark green. Once it changed colors, Hermione plucked one or her hairs, and added it to the potion. The potion sizzled a bit, and turned the dark brown of chocolate. It was complete.
Hermione ladled some into a flask, while smirking. She had outsmarted her stubborn Potions Master. She felt content. With her potion in one hand, she went to find the old headmaster. After searching the entire house, she found him, sitting in Buckbeak's room, knitting.
She cleared her throat, and started " Excuse me Professor."
Startled, Dumbledore looked up. Upon seeing Hermione, his face brook out into a smile. " What is it child, have you found a solution to the answer?"
Hermione answered, " Yes I have. I am positive it works, though Professor Snape disagrees."
"Ok then. Let us try it. We do not have much longer until the petition must be turned in."
Hermione followed Dumbledore into the library, and waited as he fetched Professor Snape. He returned with the scowling Potions Mater. " How did you find a solution already? You should have told me when you did. Then I would have stopped pouring through those countless books, wasting my time." He snapped at her, in a dangerously low voice.
"Well, if you had listened to my idea, maybe you would have come up with a correct answer." Hermione shot back.
Just as Snape was getting ready to retort back, Dumbledore out up one hand, silencing them both. "We do not have time for this. Severus, drink the potion. Let us see what happens."
Still scowling, the Potions Master took the flask from Hermione, and drank the contents. His face remained emotionless, and hard to read, as his skin started to bubble. Slowly, his jet-black hair turned a warm brown, and became curly. He grew shorter, and more petite. When the change was complete, Snape looked back at Dumbledore.
Hermione stood back, observing the Potions Master. "Well, I guess my plan worked: she stated. Only to receive a scowl (which looked very out of place on Hermione's face).
Once again, the headmaster spoke up, stopping Snape’s chance at retorting back. "Ok Severus my boy, sign the petition now, and we can go to the Ministry of Magic tomorrow so Lucius can pick you up."
"Wait," started the Potions Master. " Tell me, how exactly does this potion work?"
"It is quite simple actually. You will be able to keep this appearance for as long as you want. There is an activation word for the potion, whenever you want to change back into yourself, or into me, you would just have to say the word, and the transformation will happen. The activation word is, 'Novo.'
Upon hearing this, the potions master first picked up his wand, and pointed it towards himself, and muttered a few words. Suddenly his clothes matched those that Hermione was wearing. He was dressed in a pair of dark blue jeans, a white T-shirt, with a black robe over it. He then picked up the quill on the table, and slowly pulled the petition closer to him. In a swift motion, he signed the paper. The paper then disappeared, and a green light enveloped Snape.
As soon as the green light disappeared, the Potions Master pulled up the sleeve of his robe, and saw a tattoo like thing on his forearm. It was a Green 'M' with a snake around it. Hermione, and Dumbledore looked at him questioningly.
"It is the Malfoy family crest,” whispered Snape.
