Taking Control

Chapter Three

Ginny had nearly forgotten about the whole pregnancy by the end of the week. All the talk about the Gryffindor versus Slytherin Quidditch match had made her push her whole appointment with Pomfrey into the back of her mind. She was remembering what being a teenager was all about, which was overall having fun. She could worry about the whole baby thing after the game.

She was beginning to recognise the signs of her pregnancy more and more. Certain foods made her nauseaous, the smallest thing could make her moods do a complete turn around, and with every passing day she felt fatter and fatter. She ignored all these symptoms, wanting nothing to do with them. She'd made up her mind, she wasn't going to worry about being pregnant anymore. Maybe then it would go away.

Ginny noticed all her teachers seemed to be treated her like she was something fragile that might break at any moment. Even Snape had things that would normally deduct her house points. Their cautious behavior annoyed her, but she pretended not to notice. They could treat her different all they wanted, that just meant she could work less.

Saturday came all too slow for Ginny. Her teachers and Hermione were breathing down her neck about NEWTs all week, and finally it was time to unwind. She awoke early that morning, eager to beat the Slytherin team and show they just who was better then who.
All of Gryffindor's team was already up and eating by the time she got to the Great Hall. Harry was encouraging everyone to eat, sounding a lot like Oliver Wood. Ginny took her seat beside Ron, refusing to say a word. She'd seen him eying her suspiciously any chance he got, but instead of starting another fight, Ginny ignore his stare. Actually, she'd barely said a word to him all week.

Ginny filled her plate as much as she could, leaving out anything that didn't smell right to her. She ate her breakfast quickly, as if she hadn't ate in days. She knew she was eating quite a lot more then usual, but no one seemed to notice so she let it be. In her opinion, is no one came out right and asked if she was pregnant, then there was no way she could be.

After everyone on the team was finished eating and other students began filing into the hall, Harry led them all out to the Quidditch Pitch, their brooms slung against their shoulders. They all entered the changing room, changing into their Quidditch uniforms. Ginny carefully changed, worried that someone would notice a baby bump on her usually flat stomach. Luckily, no one even looked at her as she slipped her uniform on. Harry began his usual pre-match pep talk, trying to pysch them all up. Many on the team hung onto Harry's every word, eager to hear the secret of his strength. Ginny yawned at all their wide eyed looks. Everyone though Harry was hiding some amazing secret from them as to how he'd defeated Voldemort so many time. She, however, knew that he didn't know how it all happened. She'd given up worshipping him like he was some kind of god, as far as she was concerned, he was just plain Harry to her.

After a very disapointing pep talk about how they weren't just playing for Gryffindor, they were playing for their pride, Harry led his team out onto the pitch. Ginny noticed he sounded a lot more confident then he looked, but no one else paid any attention. They were all too focussed on winning.

The match had been close, but Gryffindor had come out victorious with a score of 200 to 90. Ginny had scored four goals and Dean had scored one, wiping the arrogant smirks off the Slytherin team's faces. While the crowd was celebrating, Ginny scanned the crowd, searching for a platinum blonde head of hair. The Slytherin team was making their way back to the castle, their captain yelling at them angrily like they'd just lost the Quidditch Cup. She noticed Malfoy wasn't with them, and decided to look for Malfoy. She really didn't want anyone to know about this pregnancy, but he needed to know. It wouldn't be right if she told him, and if she made it in time, she could catch him alone.

She knocked lightly on the door to the Slytherin changing room which was slightly ajar.

"Goyle, I told you to fuck off." Malfoy replied, annoyance evident in his voice. Ginny wordlessly opened the door and let herself in, shutting the door behind her.

"It's not Goyle." She told her, using all her will power to keep her voice calm. She felt like screaming at him, telling him what a mistake Halloween had been. But from experience with her brother, she knew screaming wouldn't get them anywhere. She just wanted to get this whole thing over with so she could pretend it had never happened.

"Weasley." Malfoy said without turning around. Ginny watched as he put on a black shirt to cover his toned chest and back.

"I need to talk to you." Ginny stated simply. She figured the least she said, she less reason he could come up with to argue. She was in a good mood for a change and didn't want to ruin it by screaming at someone like him.

"Well I don't need to hear it." Malfoy and turned and made to walk past her, but she moved, blocking the door.

"I'm serious." Malfoy seemed to overlook her serious tone. She tried to push past her, but she stood her ground. He needs to know, she kept repeating in her head.

"Get out of my way before I hex you." He said, not meeting her gaze. Still Ginny refused to move, crossing her arms across her chest.

"Can we please act like adults for once?" She pleaded. "This is important."

"Well the answer is no," Malfoy told her, looking up into her blue eyes. His silver orbs were cold and distant, but she didn't care. She was determined to tell him the news and then go back to pretending it had never happened. The sooner, the better. "I knew you couldn't go without another taste of the forbbiden fruit, but the answer is still no. You'll just have to continue fucking Potter for your kicks and giggles because I'm done with you."

Ginny couldn't help it, she burst out laughing. Malfoy sneered at her, watching as she wiped the tears from her eyes. "You are seriously conceited."

"Is that so?" Malfoy asked her, cocking an eyebrow.

"Yeah, it is so," Ginny said. "But I'm not here to have another go, because frankly, that's the last thing on my mind."

"Deny it all you want," Malfoy told her with a smirk. "But we both know the truth."

"Will you just stop being a prick for once and listen to me?" She asked him, beginning to lose her patience. How could someone so good looking be so irritating?

"I'm sorry, but I'm sobre, therefore, you're not worth my time." Malfoy went to go past her, but she stepped to the side again.

"Well you don't have a choice in the matter." Ginny said, feeling her temper rising. She took a few breaths to calm herself, not wanting to end up yelling at the boy infront of her.

"Fuck off." Malfoy roughly pushed her to the side, beginning to walk away. Ginny had to act fast, this was it, when else would she have a chance like this to tell him?

"Malfoy, I'm pregnant." Malfoy stopped walking in mid step, as if frozen still. He swiftly turned to face her, a mixture of shock and disbelief etched on his pointed face.

"That's impossible." He told her simply. He made to turn around and walk away again.

"How's it impossible?" Ginny questioned, pleased that he stopped again. "Did we use a contraceptive charm?" Malfoy stayed silent and still, as if rooted to the spot.

"I went to Pomfrey a few days ago," She told him, wanting to tell him as much as possible before he walked away again. "She gave me a pregnancy potion. I'm about two or three weeks along, which means you could be the father."

Malfoy turned to face her, a smirk on his face. "Could be?"

"Y-yes." Ginny stammered, suddenly forgetting why she'd thought it was so important for him to know.

"You mean to tell me," Malfoy said, walking towards her. "That you are such a bloody tart that you went and got yourself knocked up and now you don't know who the father is?" Ginny felt like smacking that smirk off his smug face.

"And like you're such a virgin?" She challenged him. She was done being civil, she tried to tell him, but he was too much of a git to take it seriously.

"I'm not the unwed pregnant teen here." Malfoy told her, seeming to enjoy every moment of their conversation now.

"Fuck you!" Ginny shouted at him, her voice echoing throughout the empty pitch. "The point is, we had sex and now I'm pregnant. Whether you like it or not, there's a big possibility you're the father." Malfoy let out a forced laugh.

"You know Weasley, I've heard some pretty sad stories before," He said, smirking. "But this is the most pathetic pick up attempt I've ever seen. I expected more from you."

"This isn't a fucking pick up attempt you disgusting cockroach," Ginny said through gritted teeth. "I would never in my right mind sleep with you. It was a mistake and now I'm the one paying for it."

"Yeah well, life sucks, deal with it." Malfoy told her, turning and walking away.

"Malfoy you get your arse back here!" Ginny shouted at his retreating back. She felt her rage bubbling over. How dare he do this to her! How dare he deny the whole thing.

Ginny turned around, slamming her fist into the stone wall. She couldn't believe this was happening to her. How could someone actually deny something that very well may be their's?

Ginny ignore the searing pain in her knuckles as hot tears began to run down her cheeks. She grabbed her broom roughly, dragging it down the hallway. She didn't want her conversation with Malfoy to bother her, but it did. She wished with all her heart she could go back to Halloween and erased what she'd done. She wanted everything to be okay, like it was before. Her hand instinctively went to her belly, rubbing the spot she guessed the baby was growing under. The two of them were all alone in this world, she had no one to turn to and no way of escaping. She had no choice, they were going to have to make it on their own.

*

In the morning, Ginny's anger came back two fold. She's spent the night dreaming of her future, of having to take care of a silver eyed, blonde haired baby. She awoke in a cold sweat, her heart racing. Was that the life she was facing? Looking after a fatherless baby all alone?

No, that wasn't what she'd wanted. Sure, this baby may have been unplanned, but she sure as hell wasn't going to raise it on her own. It took two people to get her into this, no way Malfoy was going to ignore that fact.

Ginny ate her breakfast quickly, glaring at anyone who looked her way. She wasn't in the mood to deal with anyone, she was reserving her anger for Malfoy.

It didn't take long to find the blonde. She entered the library to find him lurking near the Restricted Section, as if he was debating whether or not to try out his Head Boy privledges. She stormed over to him, her mind set. Before Malfoy even caught a glimpse of her, Ginny pulled out her wand and performed the Jelly Legs Jinx.

"What the fuck, Weasley?" Malfoy asked, motioning to his wobbly legs. He glared at Ginny as she muttered "Muffliato."

"You wouldn't listen to me yesterday, so now you have no choice." Ginny told him, gripping her wand tightly.

"You don't scare me." Malfoy said. He glared angrily at the red head, his fists clenched at his sides.

"That wasn't the intention," Ginny tried to keep hold her temper. It would be so easy to just curse his balls off right there. "I just want to talk to you, co-operate and I remove the jinx."

"Fine," Malfoy replied, realizing he had no other choice. "What do you want you little blood traitor?"

"No name calling." Ginny said simply, poking him in the chest with her wand.

"Whatever." Malfoy rolled his eyes at her, but she ignored it.

"Listen up, Malfoy," She told him, loving being so in control. "I'm pregnant, whether you like it or not, I am. You might be the father so you'd best own up to your mistakes and take responsibility because I'll be damned if I'm going to do this on my own. I'll take a test the minute the baby is born if that's what it takes, and if you're the father you'd better grab your balls and be a man." Malfoy glared at her silently, a scowl on his face.

"And if I don't?" He challenged her, seriously pushing her buttons.

"Then you will most certainly regret it." Ginny answered seriously. Malfoy stared at her, as if trying to decided whether or not he believed her.

"I'm not being the father of a blood traitor baby." He said, determined not to believe what she was saying.

"Well unfortunately for you babies don't care," Ginny replied, getting annoyed. She really wasn't in the mood for his childish behaviour. "I didn't ask for this to happen, I'm just as upset about it as you."

"Believe me, you have no idea how I feel." Malfoy told her.

"Why do you hate my family so much?" Ginny asked, the question having been running through her mind throughout their conversation.

"I would've thought that was obvious." Malfoy replied sarcastically.

"No, I'm serious," Ginny told him. "I've never done anything to you but yet you hate me."

"Well isn't that the pot calling the kettle black?"

"At least I have reasons not to like you!" Ginny shot back at him, her hands on her hips. "You're so open about hating anything not pureblooded, how could I not dislike you?"

"Oh what a great life this baby's going to have." Malfoy sighed as Ginny slid down to sit beside him on the floor. Did she really want to raise a baby in a family where its mother and father couldn't stand to even talk to each other?

"I'm sorry," She told him, tears welling up in her eyes. "I just don't know what else to do." Malfoy watched her awkwardly as she began to cry, not really sure what to do. He wasn't used to being around crying women, and therefore had no clue how to console them. He patted Ginny lightly on the back as her shoulders began to shake. He could help but feel a bit of sympathy towards her.

"This really isn't something I wanted to go through while I'm sixteen." She said, covering her face with her hands. She felt like an idiot for crying, but she couldn't help it. It felt like the walls were caving in on her, trapping her beneath the rubble.

"Well if it makes you feel any better, this isn't my idea of a good Saturday morning." He told her, knowing it wouldn't make her feel better. You couldn't blame a guy for trying though.

"I mean, what future do I have ahead for this baby?" Ginny asked, seeming to forget she was talking to her worst enemy. "I can't even tell anyone I'm pregnant, I have to hide it. You're the only one who knows."

"Really?" Malfoy asked, his tone a lot more calm. He would've thought she'd at least have told her beloved Potter.

"Well who can I even tell?" Ginny sobbed. "I just wish I could go back in time and erase what happened." Malfoy was a little insulted at this, but decided not to object. He too had been wishing the whole thing hadn't happened, and although no girl had ever wished it before, it was perfectly reasonable for her to regret it too.

"What exactly are our options here?" He asked, mostly just to distract her so she'd stop crying.

"Basically all we can do is keep on hating eachother until we find out who's the father." She sniffed, wiping her nose on her sleeve. Malfoy hid his disgust at this action, just happy she was done her sobbing.

"Great." The two sat in silence as Ginny calmed herself down, taking deep breaths. She hated how out of control and predictable her emotions had become. She missed being normal.

"Well it's not like we have any other choice!" She spat at her, her blue eyes narrowed. She dropped her gaze quickly, staring at her worn sneakers. "Unless..."

"No, Weasley, not unless." Malfoy told her defiantely. He was happy hating her, it was one of the many things he did best.

"Well, I do have one idea," She told him uncertainly. "I for one don't want to raise a baby in a hateful family."

"I'm listening."

"What if we got to know each other a bit, but if we continued to hate each other, we could forget about the whole thing, whether you're the father or not." She suggested, her eyes shining with hope.

"And if we don't-" Malfoy paused to shudder in disgust. "-hate each other?"

"Then you own up to your responsibilities if it just so happens you're the father." She told him simply. Malfoy considered his options. He could either refuse the whole thing and risk facing Weasley's pychotic pregnant wrath, or he could agree, hang out with her a few times, then say he still hates her and be done with the whole thing. As much as he hated to admit it, the latter was much more appealing.

"That does make sense..." He said, as if he hadn't already made up his mind. "But I swear, if you tell anyone about this I will personally torture you worse then you could ever imagine." Ginny brushed off his threat, they were really beginning to get old.

"Fine, how's about next Saturday then?" She asked. "We could meet here at eleven."

"Whatever," Malfoy replied. "Just reverse this bloody curse." Ginny pointed her wand at his legs and without a word, the jinx was lifted. If he hadn't been so relieved to stand, Malfoy would've been impressed at her wordless magic.

"I'm warning you, Malfoy," Ginny said as he began to walk away. "If you don't show up, I'll perform my famous Bat-Bogey Hex on you." Malfoy gave her a small nod indicating her understood before hurrying away.

'Blimey,' Ginny thought to herself. 'I really hope he isn't the father.'
