Run Into Guilt

Disclaimer: I own nothing but the plot. J. K. Rowling is the goddess who owns all. All bow to her and her awesome writing power.

Authors Note: Sorry that this took some long. I hit a bump in the road. Okay more like a big giant block, but I got this chapter done eventually although I'm not too sure if I like how it's turned out. I hope that you enjoy and I will try and get the next chapter out sooner. Well here goes.

Chapter 3: Run Into Guilt.

After supper JD and and I headed out to explore the school. Hogwarts is a magic castle, constanly changing on a whim. I personally think it has a mind of it's own. One thing I noticed while growing up there and then attending the school is that it always manages to change so that when you're already late the stairway you need has taken you to the opposite side of the school, or when you think you're just going to make it an entranceway is gone and you have to find another way into the dungeons or the hallway to the transifuration hallway. It's a practical joker, a lot more subtle than peeves but can be just as annoying.
Now don't get me wrong, I love my beautiful home/school but it still has it's own way of putting even the "highest" down a peg.
It was this fact that it was ever changing that I knew JD and I would have much to explore.
"Where should we start? We're never going to do it all in one night so where do you want to see the most?" I asked excited to be able to roam my home again.
"Let's start in the dungeons and work our way up," JD suggested.
We both had grown up in the dungeons of Hogwarts and so it seemed like as good a place as any other.
After quickly making our way all the way down to the deepest part of the castle we began our exploration. The potions classroom was the first place we came to. Peeking in quietly, I saw that my father kept his classroom set up the same now as he would in the future. Quite simple, and clean, and just giving off such a vibe you know it's for potions.
As I stood in the doorway I could remember back to when I was just four years old playing hide-and-seek in the dungeons with JD and both our fathers.
Looking over to JD quickly I could tell he had a similar, happy memory in his head as well.
"Ms. Granger, Mr. Weasley what may I ask are the two of you doing in my classroom? Trying to steal more of my private stores?" It was a cold, carcastic voice I knew so well. JD and I turned quickly to face a very angry and younger version of my father.
"You're not Granger and Weasley," he said although partially incorrect in his assesment. "Who are you?" he demanded.
"I am Mackenzie Gravan, and this is JD Wallen," I answered politely.
"We are exchange students attending school here this year," JD finished for me.
He stood there glaring at us for a few moments seemingly sizing us up. He looked quickly from JD to me his eyes locking with mine.
"You look strangely familiar, have we met before?"
"No sire, I do not believe we have," I reply, thinking to myself how I won't be born for another 8 years.
"Well no matter, off with you both! I don't want to see you down here except for classes." He was rather angry looking as he said this, waiting for us both to rush off in fear. The only thing with that is that JD and I both grew up with the man, and we both knew his angry look to the students and what he truly looked like angry.
"We shalld head out sir. Have a pleasant evening," I said smiling and waving as we calmly headed back out of the dungeons. I watched my father closely, not really wanting to take my eyes off him for fear of losing him again.
Oh wait! That's what he looks like truly angry. hehe. I guess he's not too happy that he didn't succeed in scaring us.
Once we were out of the dungeons and safely out of earshot I stopped and turned to JD.
"Do you know how hard it was for me not to hug that man and cry in his arms. He's my daddy and I love him so much and here I am knowing the exact time he is slotted to die alongside the love of his life as they both try to protect me." I am crying now as I sink down to the floor hugging my knees.
JD is at my side in an instant, his strong arms surrounding me as if trying to block the pain. His words soft and soothing. "It's all going to be okay Mackenzie. We're here right now so that we can change that future for both our parents. We're going to save them from that fate. Come on let's go to the library, you can find yourself a book to get lost in and we'll talk about tomorrow," he said helping me up off the ground.
"I just want to go lay down JD," I said my voice hoarse from crying.
"No! That is not the Mackenzie that I know. She would never just curl up and ignore what's happening around her. She would fight back. My 'Kenzie would turn her pain against the problem."
"THat Mackenzie didn't watch her parenst die! That Mackenzie didn't have to live with the fact that she survived where all her loved ones and just about all of her friends died! Jamie do you not ever wish you had died instead of them? Or at the very least along side them?"
Every single day 'Kenz but then I think that we must have survived for a reason. I know now that reason was so we could change things so our side prevails and our family and friends get their chance at life. They may not all survive the war but at least they'll have a better chance. You'll have given them that 'Kenz. You are giving them the future."
"We both are. You're right I know but it still hurts. To be so close and yet as far away as ever."
"Come on. Let's get your mind off this. Just think tomorrow we get resorted. Think we'll stay in our old houses?"
"Yeah you might end up back in Gryffindor or you could end up in Ravenclaw. Knowing my luck though I'll end up in Hufflepuff."
We'll have to wait and see I guess."

Authors Note: So what did you think? I don't feel this chapter was that good but in the end I needed to do it I feel.
I want to do a poll on which houses you'd like to see both JD and Mackenzie placed in. There's only one more chapter to go befor ethe sorting and I want lots of reviews and opinions on this. That chapter will also be in a new POV, any suggestions on who you'd like to hear from?

Read and review please!!!
