Chapter 4

Harry’s watch beeped softly, indicating that the full hour had arrived.
The Gryffindor stood with a deep sigh.
So much to contemplate!

The young man made his way towards his next class automatically,
still deeply engrossed in his musing.

Continuing his thoughts on Draco Malfoy he now came to the fact that the Slytherin was obviously an astonishing musical talent. Something of a child prodigy it seemed.

The boy was a damn good pupil and Harry’s worst competitor on a broom.
And he was anything but shy in proclaiming said talents.
Which led to the question of why he had kept his, obviously greatest
ability hidden?

Pani had made it rather clear that Malfoy senior had something to do with it.
Her open contempt towards the man and the timing of her appearance a strong indicator to Lucius having somehow detained Draco from studying music.

Why had the man not allowed his son to pursue this line of art?
It must be horrible not to be able to do something that one loved so much.
Harry could only imagine how he would feel if he was forbidden to play Quidditch all of a sudden.
If the man was indeed guilty of stopping his son from playing, it would explain Asia’s anger and the rebellious signs the young Malfoy heir suddenly displayed.

“Harry damn it, stop!” A heavy hand on his shoulder accompanied the loud
shouting and Harry nearly pulled his wand in surprise.
He jerked around and looked up at the tall form of his best friend.

“Jesuz Ron don’t scare me like that! I nearly hexed you!”
The redhead rolled his eyes and fell into step to Harry’s left.
“You’re spending way too much time with that paranoid slimy git.”
He murmured, voice lowered so nobody would overhear the comment on the secret lessons Harry had with the Potion Master.

Harry snorted, he had to admit that Snape’s ‘be always ready for an attack’
policy had the tendency to make him jumpy.
“Which makes the fact that I’ve been calling you for two hallways now without you noticing even stranger.”

Ron added looking at his friend curiously.
“What’s up mate? Was it that bad?”

At this Harry couldn’t stop the wide grin that split his face.
Ron smiled back.
“Ah I see. What was so good at this music lesson that it has you dream walking? A hot new teacher maybe? Or a cute girl sitting next to you??”

The dark haired Gryffindor laughed at his friend’s eagerness.
Then he thought for a second, a bit stunned for not noticing before.
“Yeah, you could say that. Our prof’s a polish flute player, very young and rather hot.”

Ron’s grin widened and his eyes were a little bit glazed.
Harry had to hold onto his control to stop from laughing at his friend.
Teenager hormones were even worse when they had no outlet.
Poor Ron, he really should hook up with Hermione, his constant
hornyness was rather pitiful.

“A flute player, wow. I hear they have a lot of breath and are good with their lips.”
He leered at his slightly smaller friend.
Harry laughed out loud.
And at the back of his mind he heard for a second the haunting tune of Draco’s flute play.

Shaking his head in an effort to stop the threatening images,
he bumped into the taller but lankier form of the other Gryffindor.
“Get your mind out of the gutter Ron.”

But the readhead only continued good naturedly
“Maybe I should change my schedule, can’t say that Hagrid has much appeal in that aspect.”
They both cringed.

“Shut it you dog, that was really traumatizing. And I don’t think you’d like this class Ron, the first thing she did was throwing half the people out because
they didn’t pass her entrance exam.”

Ron gasped, and a voice to Harry’s right suddenly piped up
“That is surely not allowed! Everybody has the right to be educated!”
Harry turned towards Hermione, after 6 years they were all used to her sudden appearances.
Even without a time turner she had the uncanny ability to materialize whenever
student, human, creature, ..whatever rights were threatened.
Harry thought she should become a lawyer.

They had reached the classroom and sat down.
Hermione in front of them with Patil, Ron and Harry in the row behind her.
He answered
“Obviously not in Magical music. She made us all go through a test to find out if we had enough musical talent.”

Hermione frowned
“What test? Could you be a little bit more specific Harry?”
She asked apparently intrigued.
Harry thought for a second then he said
“The name of the test was ‘Musicalus Habilis Examinus’”

He stopped for a second, then went on trying hard to recollect what Pani had explained
“Our Professor said that she magically gave us a pallet of tones which our
inner musical talent, if sufficient that is, then changes into melody and imagery.”

“Hmm, that sounds very interesting, I’ve never heard of it before.
Maybe I’ll do a little bit of research later, only to see if the test is accurate of course.”
Hermione’s mumbling brought indulgent grins onto Ron’s and Harry’s faces.

Then the girl focused her attention back onto her best friend
“So…?”
Harry looked at her innocently “So what? You have to be more specific, ‘Mione.”
The Prefect girl rolled her eyes in exasperation.

“How did it go?”
Harry grinned and answered “Well, half of the class was dismissed, only 13 students were able
to produce images and melodies.”

Harry’s grin widened and became rather smug
“One of those talented future musicians is yours truly, Harry Potter.”
Ron thumbed him on the back and Hermione smiled, happy for him.

“Way to go mate!”
Harry grinned and exchanged a look with the bushy haired girl as she said softly
“Congratulations Harry, I knew you could do it.”
The Golden boy smile, he had told her about his canceled classes, and how much
music had meant to him in his past.
She understood.

The door opened at the right side of the teacher’s table and MacGonogall came out
“Good Morning class, welcome to Advanced Transfiguration.
This class is going to be harder and more complicated than what you are used to,
but with a lot of hard work you will all pass your Newts.
Therefore let’s not dally around and start immediately on page 23.
Changing Objects on several levels, through layers of protection, beginning with the basic structure.”

Harry’s mind was soon smoking because of all the new information and his hand busy
with taking hasty notes.
