Chapter 4 : Good-bye Privet Drive , Hello New Life
Harry and Remus were awaken by the sound of pecking and the flapping of wings against the window pane. Remus jumped up to opened the window and in flew several disgruntled owls. They all flew to Harry each wanting to be the first to deliver their letter or package. Harry took the letter and package from Hedwig first who hooted happily (as if to say he loves me so there to the other owls) and flew to her cage to rest. He and Remus unfastened the bundles from the other owls, saving Pigwigeon for last as he was zooming around the room as usual.
After the other owls left Harry sat down on his bed to look through the deliveries. There was something from Ron, Hermione and Hagrid as well as his school letter. There was also a letter from the ministry and one from Gringgotts. Harry decided to open these ones first.. The ministry letter was to inform him that he could now use magic outside of school (duh!) . The Gringgott letter was interesting however. They wanted him to come to the bank as soon as possible to discuss the Black and Potter estates. This was going to make his plan so much easier.
“ Remus, can we leave soon? “
“ Don’t you want to open your presents and the rest of your mail , maybe have breakfast? “
“ Dumbledore may send someone else to check on me plus Uncle Vernon is probably still very upset with me. As for my presents I can open them tonight just as easily. I think we should leave as soon as we can. “
“ Ok you’re the birthday boy , whatever your heart desires “ Remus said bowing to Harry
“ Git,“ laughed Harry throwing a pillow at Remus. “ I’m just going to have a quick shower then we can go. “
Harry put his gifts into his trunk and left the room to have a shower. Remus returned the desk chair to normal and checked the room to see if Harry missed anything. He noticed that Harry did not pack many clothes. He would ask Harry about that.
Just then Harry returned to the room, bare-chested, drying his hair with a towel as he walked. Remus stared at Harry’s muscular chest in awe. ‘ My god he gorgeous’, thought Remus. \' Definitely not a boy anymore. What a guy could do with a chest like that , why I like to....’
“ Remus ,are you ok? “ asked Harry as he finished getting dressed.
Remus looked away embarassed. “ Are you going to pack the rest of your clothes? “ he asked not looking at Harry.
“ No I’m buying all new clothes remember “ Harry stated.
“ Right the make-over, “ laughed Remus.
“ I guess I’m ready to go. “ Harry went over to Hedwig’s cage. “ We need to leave now. We’ll be at headquarters by this evening , meet me there ok. “ Hedwig hooted, nipped at his fingers and flew out the window.
Harry cast a feather-weight charm on his trunk and Hedwig’s cage, shrunk them and put them in his pocket. He also pocketed his vault key, letter from Gringgotts and school list. Harry took one last look around.
“ Let’s go. “
They went downstairs only to be met by Uncle Vernon at the bottom.
“ Where are you going boy, it’s time to make breakfast.”
Harry snorted. “ I’m leaving for good , make your own bloody breakfast. “
Uncle Vernon got red in the face. “ How dare you talk to me like that and what did you do last night. That ruddy school of yours will probably expell you for doing magic,” he blustered.
“As I’m sure you’ve forgotten today is my seventeenth birthday. I’m of age in the wizarding world so I can do magic whenever I want, \" Harry stated. “ So move out of our way or I’ll move you.”
Remus growled behind Harry. Uncle Vernon looked from one to the other , decided it would be best if he did what he asked and moved away from the stairs.
“Don’t think you can come back if you walk out that door,“ he blustered.
“ Don’t worry I have no intention of ever coming back here. “ Harry noticed Aunt Petunia standing in the hallway. “ Good- bye Aunt Petunia. I left some clothes in the room. Please give them away or throw them away whichever you chose.” With that Harry walk out of the house with Remus right behind him.
They walked to the alley Remus appeared in last night. “ It’s a good thing I was allowed to learn apparation last year after that incident with Wormtail. I would hate to have to take the knight bus or port-key to Diagon Alley.”
“ Right you are Harry “ Remus said. “ Are you ready? “
“Definitely! Good - bye Privet Drive, hello new life, “ Harry happily stated. With a crack Harry and Remus disapparated away.
