Chapter 4: Girl Talk

They day slowly came to an end, Hermione and Remus’s constant flirting were gathering some attention from their fellow friends. Hermione couldn’t stop thinking about how handsome and sweet Professor Lupin seemed to be at this time. She kept telling herself, she needed to forget it. If she fell in love with him, things would only be harder when it was time to return to her own time.

After dinner, and a long goodnight to Remus, Lily dragged Hermione by the hand up to the girls dormitories. The only other girl there was Alice Longbottom, whom Hermione had met at dinner. She was also the future Neville’s mother, and would unfortunately face a horrible fate such as the Potter’s soon will.

“Oh my Merlin, Hermione! I think Remus may have developed a little bit of a crush on you”. Lily started.

All Hermione could do was blush. She was trying so hard not to let her feelings for the past Remus grow anymore than they already had. This put her in a very bad situation.

“Yeah, I’ve never seen him flirt with someone like this. It’s so adorable”. Alice began. “Normally he’s so self conscious about his being a …..”

“Alice”! Lily cut her off quickly.

“It’s ok, I know he’s werewolf”. Hermione couldn’t stop herself from saying it out loud, how was she going to explain this one?

“You do”? Lily asked. “How did you know, who told you”?

“Oh…I um, just kind of have a sense for those kinds of things. I’ve done a lot of reading and studying on them, I very much respected a man from my old school who had the unfortunate problem as well”. Hermione answered.

“Wow, well this is great”! Lily beamed. “You like Remus, and you don’t mind his lycanthropy! You guys are like soul mates”.

Hermione tried not to roll her eyes at the school girlish things they were suggesting. It wouldn’t surprise her if they started planning her and Remus’s wedding within the next ten minutes.

“So, when are you going to tell him. He’s not one to make the first move, so I think you’re going to have to be the bold one”. Alice asked.

“I don’t think I can follow through with this relationship”. Hermione answered. “I don’t know how long I’ll be staying here. I switch schools a lot due to…certain things”.

“Well, you two could have a long distance relationship. It is our seventh year, you guys could get back together after school”. Lily suggested.

“This relationship would be very long distant”. Hermione said under her breath.

“Well, the next Hogsmeade visit is this weekend. I think you should ask him to go with you. It would be so sweet”. Lily said.

“I don’t know. I mean, I don’t even know if I’ll be here until then….” Hermione began.

“Oh don’t be silly, and stop making excuses. You should ask him tomorrow during breakfast”. Lily interrupted.

Hermione just rolled her eyes and listened to the girls talk. These talks were nothing like the ones she once had with the girls in her own time. Ginny was sometimes nice to talk to, but she was still a bit younger and somewhat naïve about things. The three girls continued to talk late into the night. Hermione couldn’t remember the last time she’d laughed so hard. They all finally settled down and began to fall asleep, but Hermione lay awake thinking about how much she was falling in love with this time. She seemed to fit in so well and the people were so great. The sooner she could return to her own time, the better.

Hermione slowly drifted into a restless sleep. Little did she know that Remus, James, and Sirius were discussing the same exact situation.

The next morning everyone met in the great hall for breakfast. Remus and Hermione were forced between Lily and James. Lily continued to nudge Hermione’s arm urging her to ask, while James was doing the same to Remus. The group was silent in anticipation, eagerly staring down Remus and Hermione.

“Do I have something on my face”? Hermione whispered to Remus. He chuckled in response.

“Just do it. Now or never man”. James whispered to Remus.

“Come on Hermione, ask him”. Lily whispered to Hermione.

Hermione gave in, she was tired of being looked at. It was making her nervous and there was no way she was going to get out of this. She turned to Remus, who also turned to her at the same time.

“Remus, I have something to ask you”. Hermione began.

“Hermione, I have something to ask you”. Remus said at the same time.

“You first”. Remus said.

“No, you go ahead”. Hermione responded.

“Oh no…ladies first”. Remus said.

“Oh bloody Hell”! Sirius interrupted. “Hermione, will you go to Hogsmeade with Remus this Saturday”? Sirius asked.

“Um, yes of course”. Hermione answered quietly.

“Really”? Remus asked.

“Yes. I’d love to be your date on the Hogsmeade trip”. Hermione smiled up at Remus.

A loud applause exploded among the group. This made Hermione and Remus both turn an unnatural shade of red. It also attracted many stares from different tables and from the teacher section as well.

Classes continued that week, and homework was piling up. Hermione was becoming used to her new surroundings. She did continue to check up on Dumbledore’s arrival back to school, but he was still scheduled to return that following Monday. Friday approached with a very anxious Hermione and Remus. After their last class together Remus passed Hermione a note before heading in separate directions.

Hermione,

I’m looking forward to the Hogsmeade trip tomorrow, I can’t tell you how much it means to me that you agreed to go with me. There is something I feel I must tell you during our date together. I feel within the past few days you have become a trusted friend, and I feel it is only fair if you know about a certain condition I have. I just wanted to say I will not be offended if you decide you do not want to continue our relationship after I have informed you of my slight problem. Again, I am looking forward to tomorrow. See you this evening at dinner.

Love,
Remus

Despite the insecurity, this was the sweetest note anyone had ever written Hermione. Her heart did the fluttery thing and her stomach was full of butterflies. She was in a daze the rest of the day. For the first time in ages, she couldn’t concentrate on her homework, all she could do was think about Remus. She couldn’t wait until dinner to see him again. It was the longest hour of the day, when he was in class and she was not sitting next to him. ‘This can’t be good’. She constantly told herself, but the doubt instantly washed away with thoughts of him and there long conversations.

Dinner finally arrived. She rushed down to the great hall as soon as the gong sounded, not bothering to wait for Lily and Alice, she knew Remus was coming from class and she could steal a few moments of alone time with him. She decided this would be as good of time as any to tell him she knew of his ‘condition’ and it did not bother her a bit. Hermione arrived at the great hall just before Remus walked through the large golden doors.

“Remus”. Hermione shouted. Remus turned and gave her one of his heart melting smiles.

“Hello Hermione. It’s only been an hour since we’ve seen each other, you seemed really excited to see me. You must have really missed me”. Remus joked, winking at her.

This made Hermione blush. “Well, actually, there was something I wanted to talk to you about”. Hermione looked up to see Remus’s face turn down slightly. “Oh, don’t worry, I’m not breaking our date, but could I talk to you in private”.

Remus’s face seemed to light up again. “Of course, there’s an empty broom closet over there. James, Sirius and I have had numerous private discussions about how we plan to torment Snape”. Remus laughed.

Hermione laughed at this also. Remus led her to a fairly decent sized broom closet. It was, as Remus said, empty. They made there way inside and closed the door behind them. Remus lit his wand so it they could actually see each other.

“So, what did you need to talk to me about”? Remus asked.

“Well, I read your letter, and well, I just wanted to let you know…I know what your ‘condition’ is, and I’m ok with it”. Hermione answered looking down not wanting to see the expression on her face.

“Y-you do? How did you find out”? Remus asked in shock.

“Well, you see, I knew a man from my old academy, he had the unfortunate curse of lycanthropy…I respected him very much, and I just guess I have a knack for sensing it. It does not bother me at all”. Hermione answered quickly.

Hermione looked up to see Remus smiling. “You sure it doesn’t, I mean you’re the first girl who hasn’t slapped me and left me on the spot”. Remus asked.

“Yes, and I would like to continue this relationship…” Hermione couldn’t believe she let the words come out of her mouth, but she didn’t have a second thought because Remus’s lips were crushed against hers and Hermione was up against the wall in a totally unfamiliar position. The only disturbing thing was, it was her future defense against the dark arts teacher pushed up against her, but the more disturbing thing was, Hermione didn’t mind.

A/N: I know there’s a lot of fluff, but the next chapter I promise to add lots of lemons!!!
