Chapter 4
First Time For Everything (4/5)
The next morning came quickly to Draco. It seemed he had only been asleep for a few minutes when he was awakened by a small girl jumping on him. He opened his eyes and met a grey pair so much like his own. Mya was sitting on his chest, grinning.
“Come on Daddy, it’s Christmas!” she said happily.
She squealed as he rolled over, pinned her down on the mattress and began tickling her. Mya was laughing and screaming for help, which came with the name Dominick Malfoy. Dominick ran into the room and jumped on Draco’s back.
“Ahh! I’m being attacked!” Draco yelled.
Twisting his body, he grabbed his son off his back, flipped him on the bed next to his sister and began tickling them both.

Hermione was downstairs helping the house elves with breakfast. At first, she had wanted to free the elves from their services. She’d tried talking to Draco about it, and after a week of debates, Draco had grabbed a shirt, took her hand and dragged her down to the kitchen. He stopped in front of the first house elf he saw and thrust the shirt in its face. Hermione watched the elf’s eyes fill with tears and latch on to Draco’s leg.
“Master is upset with Dinka?” she squealed.
Draco bent down and pulled her off, “No Dinka, I will give you clothes only if you want them. Do you want to be freed?”
Her eyes went wide, “Freed? No, Master Draco! Please, Dinka will stay here!”
Draco nodded at the small elf and stood. He looked at Hermione with eyebrows raised. “Will you please try to understand, they like working. It’s just what they do.”
Hermione crossed her arms in front of her, “Alright.” She said, and walked away, finally defeated.
After that day, Hermione would come into the kitchens and help the elves with the cooking and cleaning. At first they were very wary of her. If she picked up a pot to wash, it would be magicked out of her hands and to a waiting elf.
She started just sitting in the kitchen, watching them work and talking to them. Soon they began actually talking back and after awhile, the elves relaxed around her, welcoming her as both their Mistress and their friend.
Wondering where her family was, Hermione walked out of the kitchen and toward the children’s rooms. She heard hysterical laughter from the third floor and changed directions, to her room. Reaching the door, she paused and leaned against the doorframe smiling. Draco and the kids were having a tickle fight on the bed.
Dominick turned his head and saw her standing there. She put a finger to her mouth, silencing him before he had a chance to speak, and pulled out her wand. Pointing it at Draco she whispered, “Rictusempra”
Draco suddenly started giggling like a girl, thrashing about on the bed.
“Ya mum!” Dominick cheered, and jumped on his fathers back again.
Hermione ended the tickling spell and laughed as her family lay catching their breath on the bed. Mya was the first to recover. She slid off the bed and ran to Hermione.
“Prezzie?” she asked.
Hermione shook her head, “Breakfast first.”
“And then prezzie?”
Hermione lifted the toddler into her arms, “Yes, then presents.”
The girl cheered, “Daddy, brother, come on. It’s time for brekpust.”
The Malfoy men climbed out of the bed and followed the girls downstairs.
After a good breakfast and an insane present opening session, the Malfoys could be found in their huge back yard in the midst of a snowball fight. It was Draco and Mya against Hermione and Dominick. Draco had bewitched any snowball thrown by Mya to hit one of her targets. She threw them at her brother, laughing gleefully when she saw them splatter on his chest.
Dominick hovered over Hermione on the new broom his parents (after a good deal of debating from Draco) had got him. A Junior Stealth Rider 3000. Hermione charmed snowballs to float beside him, making it easy for him to reach out and grab one to throw at his father and sister. Suddenly, an onslaught of snowballs was launched across the sky toward them. Hermione pulled Dominick to the ground and fashioned a quick snow fortress with her wand. The many snowballs hit the wall and fell to the ground, useless.
“Wow mum!” Dominick exclaimed, “That was so cool!”
Hermione grinned sheepishly and bewitched a new batch of snowballs for him.
“Hey!” called a voice from the door, “Is this a family thing, or can anyone join?”
Hermione looked over to find Harry, Luna and their daughter standing on the back porch.
“I wanna play!” yelled the four-year old Audrey.
She ran across the yard and behind Hermione’s makeshift wall. After bewitching snowballs for Audrey to throw, Hermione stood and walked to the porch as the battle waged on behind her.
~~
\"Hey guys,\" She greeted them.
Harry smiled at her and pulled her in for a hug. Harry and Hermione didn\'t get to see each other much. It was Draco who saw him everyday, as they both worked as Unspeakables at the Ministry.
Surprisingly, they worked very well together. So well that the head of the department regularly put them on assignment together, which meant they were both away from home quite a bit. Now that they\'d held the job, they weren\'t sent out into the field as much as they had in the past.
When they\'d first started the job, they were sent on missions for weeks at a time.
For this reason Luna was constantly at Malfoy Manor at that time, seeking and also giving companionship. Hermione, with a baby Dominick as her only company, gave it willingly and they got to know each other very well. Luna and Audrey still came to spend the night when Harry and Draco were called on a mission, doing unspeakable things.
Hermione saw Ron more often. He would pop in every now and then to take her to lunch. He also came to Malfoy Manor when his girlfriend wanted to visit Draco and Mya, her Goddaughter.
Who would have thought, Ron Weasley and Pansy Parkinson? Why not? Hermione always thought, after all, who would have imagined that her name would be Hermione Malfoy?
Draco had been the one to clue her in to the attraction between Ron and Pansy. Whenever they saw each other they would glare, spit out crude remarks and leave the room. But both of them would turn back, at least once, to watch the other walk away.
It really reminded her of how her and Draco acted toward each other back in Fifth year. When they agreed to that fact, Hermione and Draco plotted ways to get the two together. After several schemes and no result, they resulted to the old fashioned way.
They stole their wands and slyly portkeyed them in turn, to a magically sealed off bedroom in the guest wing of Malfoy Manor. Hermione had set up the room so it could only be opened by her. She gave them a tray that replenished itself with food as often as they needed it, and she put up a silencing charm.
After ninety-seven hours, Pansy and Ron emerged from the room a happy couple. That was almost three years ago, and they were still together.
~
\"So how\'ve you been Luna?\" Hermione asked when the two women were seated at the kitchen table.
Harry had taken up Hermione\'s position, helping Audrey and Dominick in the snowball fight. The two women chatted back and forth until the house elves began placing lunch on the table. Hermione started to get up and help when Dinka stopped her, putting a hand on her leg.
\"You is relaxing today Miss. Dinka is knowing that today, it is a special day. Dinka knows from the gifts Miss is leaving us elves.\"
Hermione blushed, but remained seated until the elves were finished. Then she got up and went to the back door to call everyone inside. She stopped short on the porch in a fit of laughter.
All three children were standing at the edge of the lawn, cheering on their respective fathers. It seemed that Draco and Harry had taken over the fight, each having made trenches in the snow and were currently chucking snowballs at each other with full force.
Hermione finally calmed down enough and called them all into the house for lunch.
\"So Hermione,\" Harry asked in between bites, \"how\'s work?\"
Hermione was a medi-witch at St Mungo\'s, helping deliver the new wizarding children.
\"I\'m on call. There haven\'t been very many births lately, so I only go in when I\'m needed. I haven\'t been called in for over a month.\"
Harry raised his eyebrows, but nodded and returned to his food.
