Chapter Four
Here you go. Thanks to all my lovely reviewers...you rock!
This one\'s a bit short, but I promise, not all of them will be.
Chapter Four:
Harry hated flooing. He always managed to land on his arse when he reached his destination, which was really embarrassing when his nemesis was right behind him. To his relief Draco didn’t comment on it.
“Headmaster, are you going to close off the floo connection when you leave?” asked Draco.
“No reason to Mr. Malfoy. You can only get here from my office. You can floo anywhere from here, for emergency’s, but you cannot floo TO here from anywhere but my office. The house is also heavily warded against apparation, and is protected by the fidelis charm. You have nothing to worry about.”
Draco looked immensely relieved at Dumbledore’s words.
Grimmauld Place had changed drastically since the summer between 6th and 7th year. Dumbledore had not made Harry go back to Privet Drive, so he came here instead. With the help of Ron, Mione and the other Weasley’s, they had transformed the place. It was no longer gloomy and depressing. It had light and color and life to it now. Harry had refused a House color theme. He didn’t want to have to look at Gryffindor Red and Gold all the time after graduation.
Sirius had left him the house and half contents of his Gringotts vault, so money was not a problem in fixing up the house. The other half of the vault went to Remus Lupin. Harry told him that he could stay in the house permantly, but Remus said there were too many memories there. They had been lovers, and he took Sirius’ death harder than Harry had.
“Harry, I would like you to work with Mr. Malfoy. Teach each other all you know. You both have strengths, different from each other. Share them. This will help you in the war. I fear this quiet will not last much longer. We have to be ready for Voldemort when he strikes. I will be checking up on you weekly. Now, try not to kill each other. Good-bye.” Then Dumbledore floo’d away, leaving them alone with each other. Draco had yet to say a word, and it was a bit unnerving.
“So Malfoy. Let me show you around. Afterwards, Dobby can whip up something to eat. I am feeling a bit peckish. What about you?” said Harry, with forced cheerfulness.
“Didn’t you eat at the leaving feast Potter?” he asked.
“No. I was too busy breaking up with my boyfriend, You?”
“You’re a poofter?” he asked, surprised.
“Yup. Rumor has it you are too.” said Harry.
“Actually, I swing both ways. I prefer men, but I will take what I can get.”
Harry was shocked that they were actually having a civil conversation, and kept it up as he showed him to his room.
“This one’s yours. There is a bathroom across the hall. This rooms mine. I have my own bathroom, so feel free to make that one yours. The other doors lead to empty bedrooms and another bathroom. That one leads to the attic. That is the one room I have never been in, so explore at your own risk.”
Harry led Draco into the bedroom he would be staying in. It was very spacious. There was a king-sized 4-poster bed decorated in navy blue and black, with 2 wing backed chairs in front of a large fireplace. There was a desk in one corner and a dresser and armoire on the other side of the room.
“You can change the colors if you want. I won’t mind.” said Harry.
“No, this is fine. Thank you. Do you think you can help me enlarge my things. I have an awful lot of stuff.” said Draco.
Harry was shocked that Malfoy would asked him for help. He agreed to of course. Hello! Gryffindor here! Besides, he was determined to make this summer as peaceful as possible, despite what he had said in Dumbledore’s office about him staying away from him all summer. He didn’t want to be lonely, but he also didn’t want to fight all summer. He had enough of that with he enemies. He might as well try and get along with his allies. It was time to grow up and be a mature adult for a change, and mature adults didn’t hold on to petty school boy grudges. As long has Draco was half-way civil and didn’t try and kill him, Harry could do the same.
Draco was in agony. Nobody knew that his mother was dead, but Snape and Dumbledore, and his father of course. It was all his fault. He had gone to his mother because he didn’t want to become a death eater. She had gone forward on his behalf to ask Voldemort himself, of all people, if he could be spared. After torturing her with crucio for her impertence, he performed the killing curse on her, in front of Draco and his father. That was the reason Lucius joined the side of the light. Oddly enough, Lucius didn’t blame Draco for his mothers death. He blamed himself for putting them in the situation in the first place. Draco blamed himself though. He should never have gone to his mother for help. While she was a wonderful, beautiful person, she was not the best of witches, and didn’t stand a chance against Voldemort.
Voldemort spared Draco, not only because he enjoyed watching him suffer over his mothers death, but because he felt he would make a great death eater. He really was an insane old bastard. To top it all off, he was stuck in this house for Merlin knew how long, and he was stuck with Harry bloody potter, the man he loved.
Yes, he was in love with Harry Potter. The bloody boy who lived. To find out he was gay also, was a shock. He had previously thought that Harry was straight, so he didn’t stand a chance. Now he had to decided if he was going to make a move on him. He would sleep on it and make a decision tomorrow.
They finished unshrinking his belongings and put them away in silence. Harry asked if he would like to see the rest of the house.
“Sure. Lead the way.” he replied.
a/n draco is probably a bit ooc, but it fits with my story. sorry if you don\'t like it. i get a bit tired of all the fics where dracos parents are distant and cruel. Dont get me wrong, those are good too, but everyonce in a while i like to read one where his parents actually care about him. enjoy!
