Chapter 4
Chapter 4
‘Oh well, today’s the day.’ Draco thought as he made his way to the dining room where everyone was having breakfast, everyone being all the other death eaters that had escaped Azkaban as well as his family and Lord Voldamort. ‘I might as well get it over and done with as I’d rather be dead than be at the mercy of that ugly, stupid twat anyway. And I don’t think being a death eater would be that much fun either.’ He smirked at his own little joke, mentally filing it away on the off chance that he actually survived this meeting with his father and was able to share his wit with someone else.
All talk ceased as Draco entered the room.
“Where were you last night Draco. I would have thought you’d be at the front of the group to welcome your father home when he has just escaped from prison?”
“I was out father and only got home early this morning. I do have something to tell you, however, which you will undoubtedly find shocking.”
“Well, what is it? Spit it out boy.”
“I’m not going to marry Pansy.”
“You’re what!”
“I said I’m not going to marry Pansy Parkinson.”
“Why ever not, Pansy is a charming young girl, with good connections and a fair amount of money.”
“Because, father, she’s a girl and I’m gay.”
“YOU’RE WHAT?!”
“I said I’m gay father, is it really such a big deal?”
“I think you’ll find it is, boy,” said the hooded figure in such a deadly calm voice that it sent shivers up Draco’s spine and turned his blood to ice. “You see, you are unnatural, defective, what is commonly referred to as a freak. And as such you must be destroyed before you have a chance to infect the rest of the world.”
Draco blanched. Lord Voldamort couldn’t possibly be thinking of killing him could he? As the hooded figure raised it’s pale scaly hand time seemed to slow to a minimum. He wanted to run but his feet seemed glued to the spot, he to scream but all sound died on his lips. He wanted to do something, anything. He looked to his father for help but Lucius’ eyes were dead and cold. Any love that Lucius had ever had for his son had gone with the utterance of those two little words: \'I\'m gay\'.
Draco felt betrayed. He had always done whatever he could to please his father, he had tried to be the perfect son but now he realised that the only thing that his father deemed perfect was himself. Nothing that he’d ever done for Draco or made him do was out of love for his son, merely a way to create a perfect clone so that in some sick twisted way he would live forever.
Draco couldn’t bare to look at that thing that called itself his father any longer. He turned instead to his mother, the one person in this world that truly loved him for who he was and not what he could be.
As soon as Narcissa saw the look of desperation in her sons\' eyes, she resolved to do the one thing that she’d never been able to do: defy her husband. She dived from her seat to her son as the words of the killing curse were leaving the Dark Lords lips, taking the full force of the magical blast, simultaneously saving her son’s life and ending her own miserable existence.
Draco immediately understood his mother’s sacrifice and that she\'d done it to save his life and give him a chance at the happiness she\'d only briefly glimpsed. He took his opportunity in the ensuing confusion to apparate himself to the house of his godfather: Severus Snape.
