The Answer is: Man

The setting was dismal. The rain outside number 12, Grimmauld place hammered against the grimy window and the wind howled about the corners and alleyways. The roaring fire in the hearth was the only source of cheeriness in the room beside you and me. We were sat curled together on one of the vast old couches that dominated the room, reminiscing on our school days, though anger blazed in both our voices when Peter was mentioned. I was very disgruntled when you moved.

“Siri! I was comfortable there. Where are you going?”

You chuckled “Sorry Rem, But when you gotta go, you gotta go.”

I merely grunted at you and settled back down to wait for your return, the darkness behind me making me feel lonely.

I was getting worried, you had been gone for about half an hour, and was just about to go looking for you when you re entered the room. Your mane of dark hair fell softly about your shoulders, and I rose to meet you, but you waved me back to my seat, crossing the room with long easy strides. I sat perplexed, watching you approach. You held a superior grin on your face, and when you reached me you dropped to one knee before me. In one hand you held a box, which you opened before me, a silver band glinted in the firelight. I raised my head to look into your eyes, and I could barely contain my mounting joy. Your voice, when you spoke, sounded miles away.

“Remus, will you marry me?”

How I had wanted to hear that from your deep vocals, and it flooded over me like a rampaging river.

“Yes!”

I grinned hugely, and dropped to the floor beside you, holding you and kissing you hard enough to bruise. I slipped the ring on with ease. We told Dumbledore as soon as we had set a date and wrote a letter to Harry. Were about to tell him that we would tell Harry next when he gave us a warning.

“I must ask you not to tell Harry just yet. The floo system isn’t safe, and the owls are being checked. Please, wait until the end of term when you can contact him safely.”

I scowled at this before replying.

“Of course we will, we’ve set the date for the 29th of July, just a small affair.”

“That will be perfect Remus. I shall pick Harry up myself.”

And with that he was gone. We discarded the letter we had wrote for Harry, setting it aside for when it could be used, before we began a draft informing the other members of the Order and asking them not to contact Harry. That done was settled down for the night, I wearing your ring with no small amount of pride.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I look at the letter we wrote to Harry, reading our words of joy once again before preparing to leave with some of the other Order members to say good bye to Harry and warn the Dursleys. I hardly notice the journey or the time I spend talking to Harry, I just try to keep a smile upon my face. Harry turns the corner, passing out of sight and Molly leads me off by myself, rocking me as I cry into her shoulder. I think back on the time we had together.

If only I had known.
