The Way Back Home
Chapter 4: Revelations and a Little Pain

Malfoy Manor

Lucius Malfoy was pissed off. After a failed attempt to retrieve the girl, he had to return home empty-handed. Just after the girl slipped from his fingers, he screamed in rage. He was mad because his prize got away, angry over her escape, and disgusted with the whole situation. Even worse, those bumbling idiots that he brought with him allowed themselves to be caught off guard, getting knocked unconscious in the process! I’m going to get that little bitch, Dark Lord or no Dark Lord.

Walking downstairs to the ballroom, he unconsciously flexed his hands into fists. The master was not going to be pleased with the failed mission. Lucius knew that some type of punishment would be handed out, no matter that he was his master’s right-hand man, he would receive some type of punishment. Lucius felt himself becoming enraged once again. He wanted the girl and he wanted her now. She was his!

To release some of the tension from the failed task, Lucius beat the shit out of the unconscious men lying around the girl’s bedroom. After, casting a minimum healing charm on each, he revived them, and apparated to a near by muggle home. Entering the house, he tortured and killed a family of muggles, satisfied with the blood-curdling screams they made. His bloodlust abated, he apparated home, returning just as the sun was starting to rise. Still, it was not enough. It wouldn’t be enough until he had her again. Oh and I will have her...

Stepping into the room, he shoved Peter Pettigrew aside, delivering a swift kick to his backside. Moving forward, he kneeled to kiss his master’s robes.

“So, you have not returned with the girl.” Voldemort’s voice hissed quietly.

“No my lord, she escaped.” Lucius said angrily.

Voldemort laughed causing Lucius to look up at his master questioningly. “My lord?”

“Do not worry, Lucius. I knew all along that she would escape. I only wanted to have her awaken her ‘gift’ before she was brought to me.” Lucius could only shake his head. He was used as bait for the girl!

“The girl, my lord, was definitely a surprise.” Lucius said in an almost wistful tone. “She was better than I expected and she screamed just the way that I like it.” He sighed. “However, I’ve never seen such a display of power. It was so extreme; she easily defeated the three other men and me in the process. It surprised me to say the least.”

“Ah, yes… the girl has magic that is even stronger than mine, possibly even more than Dumbledore\'s. That is why I must have her. With magic like that, I can easily defeat Potter and Dumbledore.” Voldemort stroked his fingers along the arm of his chair in thought. “After we have defeated our adversaries, I will absorb her magic into my own.”

“And after she has no more magic left, my lord?”

“Why, Lucius, you are so eager to reclaim your prize!” Voldemort laughed again. “Well, she will be nothing more than a muggle. You may do with her as you please, I care not. Now, you are dismissed.” Lucius bowed and stood up to leave. Just as he was to the door, Voldemort called out again.

“Take care of the men who failed to finish the task.” Voldemort hissed menacingly. “See that you do not fail me again.”

The agonizing screams of the three men could be heard echoing in the quiet country setting around the manor.

Hospital Wing, Hogwart’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

Severus kicked the door of the Hospital Wing open with enough force to make it crash against the wall. He rushed to place the woman on a bed in the vacant medical room, carefully laying her on top of the white sheets.

“Poppy,” Severus shouted. “I need you out here now!” He was about to shout the bricks off of the ceiling again when Poppy Pompfrey bustled out of her office. She was carrying a stack of towels to be placed in the linen closet. Quickly placing them on a near by table, she rushed over to see what all the commotion was about.

“Severus, what is all the shouting for?” She gasped when she looked down at the bed he was standing next to. “Oh my stars! What happened to this child?”

“I don’t know, but it’s obvious that she’s been assaulted.” Severus brushed a fingertip across the bruise on the woman’s jaw; the woman whimpered in her sleep, causing him to snatch his hand back.

“Severus, where did she come from?” Poppy inquired. “She’s in pretty bad shape—I’ll need to attend to her immediately.” Poppy ushered Severus away from the bed. When she started to move the privacy screen into place, Severus tried to step inside. Poppy turned around with a frown.

“Severus, go over there and wait while I give her a quick scan.” She held up a hand when he began to protest. She shook her head sternly. “No. Go over there to the waiting area and wait. She deserves some privacy and I don’t think she’ll like to see a man standing over her when she awakens. Now move.” She snapped the screen shut, ceasing his view of the unconscious woman.

Mumbling to under his breath about pushy women, he headed towards the waiting area to sit out the medical exam. As soon as he took a seat, his mind whirled over the events of the afternoon. He had never seen anything like that in his life. It was like something from one of those muggle space invasion movies. He still could not get the image of the woman coming down from the sky. It was the most extraordinary thing he’d ever seen. Immediately, his mind filled with more questions. He wondered about the girl’s accent, trying to think of where she’d come from. It definitely wasn’t a local accent because English probably was not her first language. In fact, she mumbled something in another language that sounded like…Spanish? He wasn’t sure. Then there was her eyes—he definitely
“Severus, there you are.” Albus and Minerva made their way over to where he was sitting. Severus looked up, noticing the awestruck expression on Minerva’s face. He wasn’t surprised to see that expression: he was wearing one of his own. He sighed and stood up.

“Where did the girl come from Albus?” He got right to the point. He looked Albus in the eye and sighed again. The damned twinkling was back again.

“She came from the sky, my boy.” Albus smiled mischievously. “She came from the sky.”

Poppy opened the robe that the young woman was wearing. She gasped when she saw that the girl was wearing nothing more than a black tank top. There were bruises on her ankles and wrists, leading the mediwitch to the conclusion that the girl was tied down. Moving her eyes upward, Poppy saw the tell-tale stickiness on the girl’s upper thighs. She gasped again, instantly knowing what had happened to her.

Quickly charming off the girl’s clothing, she saw more bruising on both of her breasts, along with the strange marking around her neck. Raising her wand, she whispered a few sensory charms, checking the girl for any internal bleeding or injuries. Finding none, she cast a strong healing charm which was followed by a pain-reducing charm for the bruising on her face and neck. Levitating the girl above the bed, she placed a clean, white hospital gown on her, and then settled her into the turned down bed sheets. She turned and moved the privacy screen back.

“Albus, what do you mean?” Minerva was confused. “I know that she came from the sky because I saw her come from the sky. I’m not following what you mean.”

“Neither am I.” Severus said, frustrated at having been given the run-around. “What are you trying to say—that she’s not human?”

Albus only smiled again and Severus wanted to scream. “Calm down, my boy. You will get your answers soon enough.”

Just then Poppy pulled back the privacy screen. She had a very serious expression on her face, the one she only wore when something was seriously wrong.

“Albus, the girl arrived in very bad condition.” She spoke in a quiet, yet serious tone. “As Severus can attest, the girl has been viciously assaulted.” Now it was Minerva’s turn to gasp.

“How bad is she?” Minvera pressed a trembling hand to her mouth. Poppy shook her head sadly. “She had bruising on her ankles and wrists, her breasts, and face. There was also bruising around her neck, suggesting that someone may have tried to choke her into unconsciousness or to death.”

Severus noticed that the mediwitch was holding back. “And what else, Poppy?” He looked at her expression intently, waiting for her to say what she was withholding. “What else happened to her?” He didn’t know why he was demanding, but he needed to know.

The mediwitch sighed. “She has been raped.” She exhaled a shbreabreath as Minerva gasped again. Albus’s eyes were no longer twinkling, taking on a heartbroken look. “There was blood on her upper thigh area and the diagnostic charm revealed inner damage to her vaginal walls. Tears were also found along her anal opening as well.” Poppy’s eyes filled with tears. “She was brutalized. The monster who did this to her ripped her virginity away from her—she went into an immediate state of shock. It’s a wonder that she even survived to make it here.”

Severus could hardly contain his anger. The innocent woman had been assaulted, losing something that she could never get back. She escaped from the clutches of Death Eaters, only to have to live with the tragic event over and over in her mind. Severus began to see red, feeling an intense rage flow through his veins. Whirling away from the others, he pulled out his wand and began blowing things to bits. He smashed cabinets, blasted pillows, and set blankets on fire. Just as he was about to start on the large bay windows his wand shot out of his hand. He whirled around to see Albus holding his wand.

SEVERUS, YOU WILL STOP THIS NOW!” Albus looked at Severus’s black eyes. They seemed to glow luminously, almost like dark fires were burning in his irises. “Smashing and destroying things will not make things better!” Minerva and Poppy, coming out of their shock, waved their wands instantly cleaning up the mess around the room. In a calmer voice, Albus approached Severus again. “I know you are angry, but being angry in such a manner won’t do her any good.” He patted his shoulder, saying, “Anger can only get you so far. Now, if you behave I will give you your wand back.”

Severus sighed and sat down on one of the empty beds. “I don’t know why I was so angry. It just came over me, totally engulfing me until it was all I could feel.” He rubbed a hand over his face. “It was all I could think about and I had to get it out. I will behave, Albus. Give me back my wand.”

Albus handed back the wand to a much calmer Severus Snape. He noticed that his eyes had faded back to the original black color. He smiled inwardly. So, now it has truly begun.

Zeporiap opened her eyes and quickly shut them. She opened them again, slowly this time, to adjust her eyes to the bright lights in the room. She seemed to be in some kind of medical room because she noticed the row of beds out of the corner of her eye. It was strangut tut there was no kind of medical equipment, at least the kind that would be in a hospital. She turned her head to the side and groaned.

“Oww, my head hurts.” Her voice was raspy, but it was just enough to get the people in the room to pay attention.

Looking up, Zeporiap noticed the strange attire of the people standing over her. One man, an older gentleman, was wearing a long jacket with stars and moons embroidered on the front. He had a long white beard with a purple pointed hat adorning his head. A woman in a similarly styled long jacket was standing next to him, except that hers was a plain emerald green material. Another woman looked to be some kind of nurse, wearing a white jacket over her skirt and blouse. Looking past the nurse, Zeporiap saw a man dressed in black. He had on a black jacket with black slacks, and was probably wearing black shoes. His pale skin glinted sallow in the light, clearly showing that he didn’t go out in the sun much. He had a slightly larger than average nose, but not too much because it didn’t over power his face. He had black eyes that held a world-weary look, but also reflected a high sense of intelligence. There were no laugh lines around his eyes or mouth, suggesting that he didn’t smile much or if at all. His long black hair fell a little ways past his shoulders, blending in with his jacket.

“Would it be too much to have a glass of water?” She asked, her throat feeling terribly sore. “If you don’t mind, I’d like to know where I—” Zeporiap jumped as a glass appeared on the nightstand next to the bed. Her eyes widened as it filled with water. Her eyes shot towards the older man in purple. “What is this place? Please don’t tell me that I’m dreaming.”

Albus smiled kindly down at the young woman. “Before I answer any questions, you must answer some questions yourself. Poppy?”

Poppy smiled and bustled forward to her patient. “Now, dear I am just going to ask you a few diagnostic questions. Answer them in the order that I ask them.” Zeporiap nodded.

“What is your full name?”

“Zeporiap Mariposa Luz.”

“What is your birth date?”

“March 15, 1978.”

“Where were you born?”

“San José Hospital-San José, California, United States of America.”

“What was your first language?”

“My first language was Spanish.”

Ah, now I know where that strange accent comes from, Severus thought. She’s an American, speaking with a Spanish accent.

“Okay, that is all, my dear. I only wanted to check for memory failure.” Poppy smiled at the young woman. “Albus, you may answer her questions now. If you need anything else, I will be in my office.” She nodded and bustled off to her office.

Zeporiap turned to the one named Albus. “Señor, can you tell me where I am? I know that I am somewhere in England because of your lovely accent. Would you mind filling me in, ¿por favor?”

Albus smiled. “My name is Albus Dumbledore and your accent is just as lovely. First off, you are correct. We are in England, or rather in Scotland. However, we are not exactly in a location that can be found on a map. You see, we live in a different world—the magical world. Our world is hidden from non-magical people, muggles, because they do not believe in its existence and we prefer it that way.”

“This is the magical world?” Zeporiap was a bit skeptical, after all she could be just dreaming.

Albus nodded. “Yes, this is the magical world. Specifically, a place where muggles would say that ‘things happened by magic.’”

“Hmm, you’re going to have to prove it.” Zeporiap shook her head thinking, Esta gente está loco. Albus smiled again. He turned to the man in black. “Would you mind giving an example?”

Severus stepped forward, standing directly in front of the bed. He pulled out his wand and charmed the sheets away from the bed. Then, he pointed his wand at the girl saying, “Wingardium Leviosa!” and levitated her off of the bed.

“Whoa…Ai Dios Mio…” Zeporiap laughed. It was the most amazing thing ever. She felt herself being slowly lowered back to the bed and then watched as the sheets righted themselves. The man in black stepped away.

“Okay Señor,” Zeporiap laughed, “You’re lucky I’m not hard to convince when it comes to things like this.” She smiled. “I’ve always felt like something wasn’t quite right in the world—I guess this is what was missing.”

Minerva sighed in relief. She thought that it would be difficult to explain their world to the young woman. Severus also breathed a sigh of relief, although he kept it to himself. All he could think about was how the woman’s laugh sounded when he levitated her, her eyes widening in wonder over the magic happening in front of her.

“Well, my dear, what do you think?” Albus spoke again. “Was that enough proof for you?”

“I’ve just got one more thing to ask, Señor.”

“And what’s that?”

“When can I learn how to do that stuff?”

Albus and Minerva laughed. While Severus didn’t laugh, he did nod his head.

“Welcome to Hogwart’s Miss Luz.”
