Chapter Four Version Two

I Find The Substance Lost.
A Shed Shell Of A Being Of Disgust.
Done Is The Cleansing.
Complete Is The Surgery Of The Soul -Neurotica by Messhugga

Parting from his new friends at the entrance hall, he quickly made his way up to the Headmaster’s office.

“Fainting Fancies” he said to the gargoyle, watching it reveal the steps while thinking on Dumbledore’s idiotic password system. Of course, the password had been given to him with his reply from Dumbledore previously.

“Aah, Harry, so nice to see you, my boy”
The shock at Harry’s new look was evident on his face but it passed quickly. Harry smiled inwardly at the doubt that had entered his Headmaster’s eyes. ‘Maybe the old fool has realized that things are different now, that not everything will go his way so easily.’ That is not to say Harry had chosen to join Voldemort just that he had an understanding of where the man stood.
“Good evening, Sir. Did you have a good summer?”

“Why yes Harry I did actually. Barbados is quite lovely this time of year” he prattled on hoping to avoid any bad conversation. What he didn’t know was that it was exactly the wrong thing to say to Harry, who pictured Dumbledore on a beach relaxing while he himself was doing chores. His anger only multiplied and he bit out I b I be sorted now, Headmaster?”

“Why of course, Harry.” With that he pulled out the hat and placed it on Harry’s head.

‘Aah, Mr. Potter. So odd to see a student come back again, but if I expected it of any it would have been from you. One of the hardest students to sort I have ever had.’

‘Just get on with it please. No more begging or complaining, this time I just want it to be right’

And with that the hat screamed ‘SLYTHERIN!’

Dumbledore’s eyes narrowed at Harry, seeing him smiling happily at his house change. This was not good for the order, or for publicity that was for sure. Hopefully he could keep his golden boy. Maybe it was time for him to have a little chat with Severus.

Harry was ecstatic, almost immediately the badge on his robes and his tie changed colours. He noticed that Dumbledore wasn’t happy but he truly didn’t care.

“Thank you for that Headmaster, I think I shall be heading down to the feast now.” As he finished the sentence he stood and quickly exited the room, leaving Dumbledore pondering what had just happened until Professor McGonagall came to retrieve the hat and take him down to say his welcome speech.

Harry did not bother hurrying as he walked to the great hall. He was just imagining the surprise on everyone’s faces when they found out his house swap. Even Draco did not know he was to be resorted, but Harry thought he may have figured it out anyway. When he came to the doors he noticed that it was still early and students were milling about chatting away happily to friends they hadn’t seen for months. When Ron and Hermione finally noticed him as Harry, not just any new student, they stood so as to greet him. Not feeling up to a confrontation, he walked to the Slytherin table and sat down between Draco and Blaise. Blaise shrieked when she saw the new colours but Draco just drawled “Thought so” and went back to talking with Pansy.

“Oh, Harry, this is so great. Now you can come to all the Slytherin parties with us and none of those stupid Gryffindorks will bother you!”

Just as she said that Ron came striding over angry with Hermione trailing behind him.

“Harry, what the hell are you doing over here?”

“What do think I’m doing Ron?” Harry pointed at his new house badge and said “I’m just sitting where I belong.”

The anger on Ron’s face was evident but seeing all the other Slytherins waiting to back Harry up, he decided the best course was just to walk away. Hermione just gave Harry a sad look and sighed, acting as if she knew it was going to happen. He still didn’t realize that she was only going out wion ton to make Harry jealous; she had wanted him for a year now. But all hope was lost to her that instant. She turned her back on him the same as Ron had. Seamus and Dean watched from a distance, knowing enough not to get involved, but Harry could see a glint of hatred spark in their eyes. Neville mourned the loss of a good friend. Harry was one of the few people who didn’t treat him like an idiot. But now that he was a Slytherin he was sure that would change. He ran off to Ginny hoping she would understand.

“Well, that went better than expected,” Harry said, looking over to see that Dumbledore had finally arrived and was about to start his speech.

After the feast, Harry accompanied the of of the Slytherins down into the Dungeons, pretending he didn’t already know where the dorms were. He was told the password (imperium) and shown the sixth year rooms where he was to live the next year. His bed hangings were, of course, green and silver, but certainly not garish as one would suspect. The hangings were made of velvet and the sheets of silk. Obviously being in a house with richer parents certainly did change your living conditions some. The room itself was bigger than that of the Gryffindor dorm and had a large fireplace as to make up for the lack of windows.

He was tired after all the excitement but decided that there was one more thing he had to do before he could sleep. He grabbed some parchment that had been at the top of his trunk and began to write.

Dear Tom,

I decided that as you are the closest thing to a father I have (being of course because you did kill mine) that you would like to hear my news firsthand. I have been resorted into Slytherin. Doesit mit make you proud? Draco has introduced me to his friends and we all seem to get along well. I have not seen Professor Snape as yet although I am sure he will not be happy about the situation. Anyway, I think that that is all for now and I am quite tired. Perhaps I may write again later to tell you of my progress,

Harry.

He made his way to the owlry under his invisibility cloak and called Hedwig. Tying the note to her leg, she bit him in warning, not liking wha was was doing.

“It will be okay girl, just do this for me, Please?’

He watched as Hedwig flew off into the night and watched the stars. As he could no longer see her he threw his cloak back on, walked quickly back to the dorms and crawled into his bed, feeling safer than he had for a long time. Tomorrow he would have his first classes as a Slytherin and was interested to see the reactions of the professors. Sleep came to him at last and there were no nightmares on this night.
