A Visit From Lady Snape
A/N: Thank you for all of the fabulous reviews! They are all so encouraging! I know I wrote humor in the first three chapters, but I chose drama as the genre because of this chapter. But never fear, I have a silver lining in place, so be patient.
Hugs,

Severus laid Hermione down on her bed, assuming she wouldn’t want to go to his private quarters. He went into her bathroom and wet a washcloth with cold water. Gently he placed it on his wife’s forehead, waiting for her to wake up.
It was several minutes before Hermione opened her eyes, only to be greeted with the solemn look that belonged to her husband, Severus Snape, who was sitting on the bed next to her. Timidly she sat up, pulling the washcloth from her forehead.
“Thank you,” she whispered. He only nodded, not knowing what to say. “So,” she began, “it wasn’t a dream.”
“No, I’m afraid it wasn’t.”
“I didn’t realize wizards do not have divorces,” she blushed.
“Apparently, although everyone thinks you passed out because I kissed you.”
“You kissed me?” He avoided looking at her, not wanting to make the situation anymore difficult. She sensed the awkwardness and quickly said, “Believe me, a kiss from you did not cause me to pass out.”
“No, just finding out that you were going to be married to me for the rest of your life was enough.”
“Severus, I - ”
“Stop Hermione. You clearly didn’t understand that a marriage in the wizarding world is forever. You don’t need to make an excuse for your reaction. There is only one way to end the marriage.”
As much as she wanted to jump up and cry out how, she didn’t because her reaction to the marriage was already like a slap in the face to him. “How?” she asked quietly.
“The marriage needs to be consummated within the first 48 hours or all magical bindings are broke.”
“Oh,” she said, blushing.
He knew she was not about to consummate the marriage with him. Hell, if he were a woman, he wouldn’t want him either. He was grateful she went along with the engagement, but felt responsible for being in the current situation. She was twenty years younger than him. With her intelligence and beauty, she could easily find a wizard she deserved and he wasn’t going to stand in her way, as much as he would have loved to.
There was a knock on her door and Severus got up to answer it. “Severus, Hermione, good, I need to speak with the both of you,” said Albus, walkinto tto the room. “We haven’t had this much excitement since the Chamber of Secrets had been opened.” They both looked at the Headmaster, clearly finding no humor in what he had said. “Anyway, I am under the impression that this marriage is a marriage of convenience. Is this true?”
Hermione and Severus looked at each other first, then looked at Albus. “Yes sir,” said Severus.
“Hermione, do you understand that a wizard’s marriage is different from a Muggle’s marriage?”
“I do now sir,” smiling faintly.
“Did you conceal the truth from her Severus?”
“No sir,” squeaked Hermione, answering before Severus could. “It was all my idea. I told him to trust me. I assumed divorce was an option. Boy was I wrong,” she faked another smile.
“It’s okay dear. If both of you agree not to consummate the marriage, then it will be null and void in 48 hours.”
“But then Severus will be forced to marry that woman and - ”
“I’d rather do that than to force you to be my wife for the rest of our lives. I can’t deny you the opportunity to live your own life, especially when you find a man you do want to be married to,” said Severus grimly.
“Then it’s settled. I have your marriage contract here,” said Albus, holding the scroll. “It will remain sealed with the piece of cotton string. When 48 hours is up, the string will dissolve and the contract will be voided.”
“What happens if the marriage is consumd?” d?” asked Hermione, out of pure curiosity. The two men both stared at her in disbelief. “I’m just curious.”
“The string will turn to gold, thus binding the agreement forever or until death do you part.”
“Interesting,” said ioneione, “I guess I have a lot to read up on about wizard customs and traditions.”
“Aw, that’s the spirit Hermione. You were always able to find the bright side to any situation, even if it means that you will no longer be married in 48 hours. I need to go. Hagrid is escorting the press out of here. I just need to make sure he isn’t throwing them out, although he did have a good point about doing it that way.”
“I should be on my way too,” said Severus, walking toward the door.
“Goodnight Severus,” she said quietly.
“Goodnight Hermione.”
~*~*~*~*~
Hermione got up to take a bath. The entire evening had been an emotional roller coaster that she needed to relax her mind and body before going to bed.
While running the water, she began to strip her clothes off. Pulling her dress over her head, she felt a sharp pain and then nothing.
~*~*~*~*~
The next morning in the Great Hall, Severus decided to go to breakfast. He wanted to see how Hermione was doing, but was disappointed that she was not there. He knew being married to him was going to be disappointing, but for her not to show up at all was unlike her. He made his way to her rooms, but she did not answer. Taking down her wards, he found that she was gone. Thinking that she was already in class, he decided to wait until dinner to speak with her, understanding her need to cope with the idea of being his wife, even if it was only for forty eight hours.
He spent the day teaching Double Potions to the Slytherins and Gryffindors, not being able to take his mind off of Hermione. It bothered him that she had not been around. He spent his lunch hour alone in his classroom, as he did everyday, but this time Albus came to see him.
“Severus, have you seen Hermione?” he asked.
“Not since last night,” he responded, jumping to his feet. “Where is she Albus?”
“I don’t know. She didn’t show up for any of her classes.”
“Damn it!” yelled Severus. “I think my mother might have something to do with this.” Both men rushed to the outer edge of the Hogwart’s grounds and Apparated of Snape Manor.
~*~*~*~*~
“Filthy mudblood bitch!” spat Snape’s mother. “You will not stand between me and my money!” She cracked a whip along Hermione’s back, causing her to scream. Hermione could feel the warm blood trickling down her back.
“You are going to stay here and not consummate your marriage to my son you piece of filth!” The whip cracked along her back again, causing Hermione to cry out. “The forty eight hours are almost up and the money will be mine.”
Hermione was crying silently as the tears rolled down her cheeks. She couldn’t believe how selfish this woman was. She had been hanging in the dungeon of the Snape Manor since last night. The beatings had only begun around noon when Hermione refused to admit she only married Severus to support his defiance toward her.
She was about ready to give up when she heard her husband’s voice. “Mother,” he spat, “What the hell are you doing?” His mother spun around, dropping the whip from her hand.
“Son,” she said lovingly, “I am saving you the trouble of teaching your wife how to be obedient.”
Albus quickly drew his wand, yelling “Stupify!” Mrs. Snape fell to the ground. “I will summon the Aurors and have them escort her to Azkaban.” Kidnapping was a serious offense that would land her in Azkaban for at least 30 years.
Severus saw the blood running down Hermione’s back and ran to her. Untying her and turning her to face him, he saw her tear stained cheeks. The pain he felt in his heart was nothing he had ever felt before. ‘If it had been anyone but her,’ he thought, looking at her.
“Don’t move,” he whispered, gently leaning her against him. She was completely naked and trembling. “I am placing a numbing charm on your back,” he said softly, waving his wand. The initial pain eased up. He removed his own robes and wrapped her in them. Without saying another word, he Apparated her back to the edge of Hogwarts.
Hermione clung to him like her life depended on it. She knew deep down that he was the one person she could trust and trust was all she could do. She was vaguely aware that they were back in her room as he gently laid her face down on her bed. Turning her head to the side, she watched him move about her room. He had gathered several bottles she had in her bathroom and brought them out to her desk that sat by her bed. Blending a few of them together, he placed several spells on the liquid and then added the rest of the contents in the bottles.
Walking back to her, she saw he had made a light blue cream. He carefully removed the robe that was covering her. Her naked body was fully exposed to him, but she mind. Her pain was coming back and she knew he could take it away.
Carefully he applied the cream to each of her lacerations, bringing her instant relief. Her wounds healed within seconds, leaving no scars. “Can you sit up Hermione?”
She tried to push herself up, but was too weak. “It’s okay,” he said, helping her lay back down. I need to wash the cream off along with the blood.”
Going back into the bathroom, she heard the shower start. He came back out and attentively picked her up. He was fully clothed, but he carried her to the shower and stood her up. Her arms wrapped around his waist as she leaned into him to support herself.
Taking a washcloth, he began to wash her back. The spray of the shower was so relaxing on her aching muscles that she just closed her eyes, allowing him to care for her. She wasn’t sure how long she had been standing with him in the shower, and didn’t care. All she knew was that she was safe.
Severus finished washing her back and actually took the time to hold her. He didn’t want to let her go, not yet. So he leaned her further into the spray so her hair would get wet. Taking the bottle of shampoo, he poured some into her hair and began washing it. He looked down at her, waiting for a reaction. She looked up at him and smiled. He took his time washing her hair and rinsing it. Next he got another washcloth and washed the dried tears from her cheeks. When he was finished, urneurned off the water and placed a drying spell on both of them. He handed her a bathrobe and they left the bathroom together.
She walked over to her bed and lay down. She felt so much better, but she was still exhausted. Severus pulled the covers back for her as she crawled in. Covering her up, he whispered, “I will see you in the morning.”
“No, please,” she sat up. “I don’t want to be alone. When you left me last night, she took me.” He could see the fear in her eyes and swore he would never let her be scared again.
“I’ll stay,” he said, moving back toward the bed. What possessed him to do it, he didn’t know, but he crawled under the covers with and held her until she fell asleep. If only for one night, he was going to hold her.
Hugs,
Corazon
