Chapter 38- Moony Returns and a Party
The group followed Hermione through the castle to the Chamber of Light. Once they finally reached their destination, Hermione and Severus opened the chamber. Where the Wand of Gryffindor once sat now sat a bed where Remus Lupin lay sleeping.
“Sirius, why don’t you go and wake him.” Severus said.
Sirius nodded and walked over to his best friend. He leaned over the man and gently shook his shoulder. “R…Remus, it’s time to wake up.” Sirius stuttered.
Remus began to stir and slowly opened his eyes. His soft brown eyes focused on Sirius. “Sirius? Is it you? Are you dead too?” Remus asked.
“No my friend. I’m not dead. And neither are you. Not anymore.” Sirius answered with tears in his arms.
Remus sat up and looked around him. “What happened? One minute I’m talking to James and Lilly and now I’m here.” Remus questioned in confusion.
“That’s Hermione’s story to tell Moony.” Sirius said as he hugged Remus tightly.
After about a minute or so Remus followed the others out of the chamber to Albus’s office. Their journey was silent. Everyone afraid if they spoke Remus would be gone once more. It wasn’t until everyone was seated in the office did Remus speak.
“What happened? I remember hearing Malfoy yelled the killing curse, everything went black and then I was standing in front of Lily and James. I knew I was dead and now I’m here.” Remus replied.
“Remus, after you died things got worse. It turns out that there were several Gryffindors who were followers of Voldemort. Three of them were Neville Longbottom, Seamus Finnegan, and Dean Thomas. They tried weak as the attempt was, to take Hermione to Malfoy. Not long afterwards Alexis Martin and Jonathon Mitchell were recruited by him.
“They kidnapped Hermione, Ron and Harry. They forced Ron and Harry to watch as Jonathon raped and Beat Hermione. Alexis made sure Hermione was conscious for the whole ordeal. When we finally found them, Hermione was in bad shape. She was in the infirmary for over a month.
“Harry finally found the wand. But they were being followed by Marcus Flint. Malfoy had used the wand to make Flint invisible to everyone but him. Once we had the wand we made him visible. At that time we found out Hermione was once again Pregnant and the children survived the attack from Martin and Mitchell.
“About a week after we found the Wand of Gryffindor, Hermione was waiting on Poppy for her check up. It was while she was waiting that Malfoy cast a spell on her. It was too horrible to describe. Severus went into the dream world Malfoy had Hermione trapped in and brought her out. Unfortunately Malfoy still had a connection to her. She stayed asleep until the 15th of May.
“That was the day Malfoy showed up here. He and Harry fought and Harry beat him. He yelled the killing curse. After that Hermione woke up and we found out that they were having twins. Then Hermione began having the nightmares. She kept reliving all the things that had happened to her and Severus at the hands of Malfoy.
“We finally figured out that Hermione had to fight Malfoy one last time in her dreams. We all watched her fight Malfoy. She called upon the Wand of Slytherin, who Severus is now the guardian of, for help. She beat him for good. Godric Gryffindor appeared to her and granted her anything she wanted. She asked for you to be returned to us. We are the only ones, besides you, who know you died. To everyone else, you had just been gone on a long vacation. And that’s how you got brought back here.” Sirius explained.
Remus sat in a stunned silence. His mind trying to process everything that Sirius had just explained to him. ‘I was brought back to life by Hermione! Twins! A ghost! My god! These past few months must have been hell for all of them!’ Remus thought. Finally he spoke. “Wow! I…I don’t know what to say. I mean…thank you Hermione for bringing me back. The first thing that James and Lilly told me was that it wasn’t my time. I’m forever grateful that you brought me back.” Remus said as he rose to his feet, walked over to Severus and Hermione and hugged them both tightly.
“You are very welcome. Besides, I couldn’t let my son go through his life without meeting his godfather and namesake.” Hermione beamed.
“What?” Remus asked as he pulled away from them.
“Yes. We are having a boy and a girl. Our daughter will be named Gabrielle and our son is named Remus. Sirius, Harry and Ron are the children’s godfathers and Ginny, Lavender and Minerva are their godmothers. Would you be their fourth godfather?” Severus added.
Tears filled the former werewolf’s eyes. “Do you even have to ask? The answer is yes! And thank you for the honor.” Remus laughed as he hugged them once again.
Albus cleared his throat gently. “I hate to break this up, but it is late and I know Hermione must be exhausted. Why don’t we all get some sleep and we can talk more in the morning. Oh and Remus, as far as anyone is concerned you returned tonight from a long vacation in the Bahamas.” Albus said.
Everyone agreed. After more tearful hugs they all said good night and headed for their respected chambers. As Hermione lay in Severus’s arms sleeping that night he simply stayed awake and held her tight.
‘Thank you up there for protecting her. I could not go on if I had lost her tonight. And Godric Gryffindor, thank you for giving us back our beloved Moony. I am forever in your debt. Thank you.’ Severus thought as he fell into a peaceful slumber.

The next morning everyone was seated in the Great Hall for breakfast. “So, Remus how was the Bahamas?” Flintwick asked.
“It was beautiful. I’m glad Albus suggested I go. I didn’t realize just how bad I needed the vacation.” Remus answered.
“We’re all glad you’re back. I’m sure Sirius is. He took over your classes while you were away. It seemed like he had fun.” Poppy added.
“Thanks Padfoot. I owe you one.” Remus winked.
“You don’t owe me a thing my friend.” Sirius smiled as he placed his hand on Remus’ shoulder.

June quickly passed. Severus told Remus about the surprise party for Hermione on the 24th of July. Hermione was still clueless. Before they knew it the party was upon them. Severus left that afternoon to take care of last minute details while Minerva helped Hermione get ready to go to the theater.
“So, what are you two going to see?” Minerva asked as she did Hermione’s hair.
“My favorite play. Romeo and Juliet.” Hermione answered.
“That is Severus’s favorite too. Growing up he always loved Shakespeare. His parents took him to see most of the plays. Oh, you look beautiful.” Minerva said as she finished her hair.
“She looks exquisite doesn’t she?” Added a voice from the doorway.
Hermione turned and found her husband leaning against the door frame wearing black dress slacks, black dress boots, a white dress shirt and his hair pulled back into a pony tail.
“You look handsome yourself.” Hermione grinned as she got to her feet.
“Well, you two better get going. Have fun and I’ll see the two of you later.” Minerva smiled as she kissed them both on the cheek and left the room.
“Are you ready dear?” Severus asked.
“Yes. Oh and thank you for the necklace. It’s beautiful.” Hermione nodded as she fingered the ruby necklace Severus had given her that morning a breakfast.
“You are welcome. It simply adds to your beauty. Now, let’s go.” Severus replied with a smile.
The two left Hogwarts and apparated to London. They made their way to the theater and found their seats. Severus had bought them box seats. The best they had. Hermione was shocked. Severus simply smiled as he helped her into her seat. As they were leaving the theater, Severus stopped Hermione.
“What is it?” she asked.
“I forgot something.” He answered.
“What did you forget?” she inquired.
“This.” He whispered.
Severus gathered her into his arms and kissed her lovingly. Everyone around them smiled at the happy couple. When he pulled away Hermione smiled and hugged him. They continued on their way, their arms around each other’s waist. When they apparated again Hermione noticed they weren’t in Hogsmeade.
“Where are we?” Hermione questioned.
“Oh, I must have forgot to tell you this morning. Remus and Sirius wanted us to stop by and check on 12 Grimmwauld Place for them.” Severus shrugged.
“Oh.” Hermione replied.
They made their way to the house. Together they entered. Severus steered her to the kitchen where everyone was waiting. They walked through the door.
“SURPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY HERMIONE!” Everyone yelled.
Hermione’s jaw dropped. All of her friends were there. She turned to look up at her husband. He simply smiled. “Happy Birthday my love.”
“This is wonderful! Thank you! You’re all here!” Hermione cried as she hugged her husband and faced her friends.
“Did you think we were going to miss your birthday?” Ron asked.
“Not a chance. Severus came and was able to arrange for us to come here tonight. We have to go back tomorrow night, but at least we’re here now.” Harry laughed.
Hermione hugged them both. Soon the party was in full swing. An hour later the cake was brought out. There were 20 candles on her cake. Since her use of the time turner she had gained two years. Hermione thought about her wish.
‘I wish for all of friends, husband and children to have long, full, and happy lives.’ She thought as she blew out the candles.
After the cake came the gifts. The gifts varied from books to things for her and Severus’s new home, to things for the children. Hermione couldn’t remember having a better birthday. After the party and everyone said good night Severus gathered Hermione into his arms and apparated them to the cottage.
“Thank you Severus. For everything. You’ve been at my side through the good and bad. Tonight, you made me so happy. Seeing my friends again. Thank you.” Hermione said as she rested her head on his chest.
“You are welcome my love. You have made me so happy. You have given me my life back. I could never repay you for that. I love you Hermione Elizabeth Granger Snape.” Severus smiled as he kissed her.
“And I love you Severus Damien Snape.” Hermione whispered against his lips.
The two fell asleep wrapped in each other’s arms. Finally, their lives were at peace. They were together, they had their friends and finally, their children would soon complete the picture.
