Lucius knew that if he ever had any hope of talking to Phelan face to face he would have to intercept him before he saw Daisy. Because Lucius also knew from his conversation with Minister Shacklebolt, right before the man had went off to speak with Phelan, that Daisy and Phelan were going to be inseparable for a while. The blood bonding would awaken a need for affection in the two. They would be around each other closely for a while.
He got his chance after waiting a few minutes. Hermione was still pressed close to his side, and looked over when he stood a little straighter. Phelan was making his way down the hall with some difficulty. Kingsley was walking on one side of him, and a male Healer’s Assistant (the Nurse of the Magical realm) was walking on the other side. Phelan was wearing a short white hospital gown, and serviceable powder blue shorts. They’d had to peel him out of his costume to deal with his wounds.
Phelan actually stopped once, closed his eyes, and took a few deep breaths before continuing. The Healer’s assistant didn’t look to pleased that the boy was up and about.
“He’s really hurt. Even so, he’s walked all the way from the Werewolf Wing to see Daisy. If that isn’t at least strong affection, I don’t know what is.” Hermione said softly, brushing her hand against his. She was feeling very touchy-feely all of a sudden. Lucius chalked it up to another side affect of combining their magic. He wasn’t too averse to touching Hermione, so it didn’t matter either way to him.
“Or he’s really horny. Men have done strange things to get into a female’s knickers.” He growled.
“You just don’t want to think he’s capable of human emotion. But he is. He’s not a monster, Lucius…he’s a werewolf. And no, it’s not the same thing.” Hermione returned, her voice sharp.
Lucius only ‘hmm’ed softly, and frowned as Phelan continued to get closer. “I need to speak with him alone before he goes to speak to Daisy. I need to lay down some ground rules.” Lucius said.
“Be nice.” Hermione said softly.
“I’m going to give the little brat a piece of my mind. How’s that for nice?” he replied. Hermione pulled on his arm.
“Please don’t. Don’t be unkind to him, Lucius. If you’ll be nice to him…I’ll…er…I’ll…” she paused, floundering for something that would please him enough to get him to behave. “I’ll let you spank me again!” she finally blurted, her voice an embarrassed whisper. Lucius’ head snapped towards her, his eyes darkening to stormy blue.
“What?” he said, unsure if he’d heard her right. Spank her…again? Hell yes he’d behave if she let him spank her again.
“I’ll let you spank me again if you’ll be a gentleman to Phelan. I think it’s fine for you to have a few rules for them to follow, but you don’t have to be cruel telling him. If you’ll talk to him kindly, then I’ll..you know…let you spank me.” She said, her cheeks going red.
Lucius nearly growled. Those wouldn’t be the only red cheeks she’d have when he was done with her.
“Deal.” He said quickly. Silly little Gryffindor…this spanking wouldn’t be forced on her. She’d invited it herself. Perhaps this relationship would have more perks than he’d first thought.
Phelan approached slowly, the look of pain on his face unmistakable.
“Mr. Greyback.” Lucius said, inclining his head. “If you don’t mind, I would like to have a few private words with you before you see Daisy.” Phelan blinked, but then nodded.
“Yeah, sure.” He said. The Healer’s Assistant rolled his eyes skyward, and turned to walk away. As he left Lucius heard him mumbling something about ‘crazy furries.’ What the hell was a furry?
Phelan leaned against the wall opposite Lucius and Hermione, relieved for the moment not to have to move. Who knew moving your legs could make your damn back hurt so much?
“I will be honest with you. I’m not terribly thrilled about this situation with you and Daisy. But what’s done is done, and I can’t change it. But I can tell you two a few rules. You, Mr. Greyback, are without a legal guardian. And Daisy has found herself with a sudden…husband.” Lucius said, pausing here. This was harder than he thought. He wanted to shove the smarmy little bastard up against the wall and tell him if he touched Daisy the wrong way that he’d pump him so full of silver and raw wolfsbane it would leak out his arse. But he didn’t. He had another arse to think about.
“You want to make sure Daisy’s virtue stays intact as long as possible, am I correct?” Phelan asked. Lucius’ eyes flashed, and Phelan saw some of that power the wizard had displayed at the Ball.
“Exactly. She is thirteen. That is no age to start a more-” he paused for effect, “physical relationship.” He finished. “I have been told you two will be….affectionate for a little while. You’d better keep it at level one, Mr. Greyback, or you’ll find yourself physically unable to start a relationship at any time.” Lucius finished. Hermione squeezed his hand. He’d almost gone a little overboard at the last bit.
“I agree completely.” Phelan said. Lucius raised an incredulous eyebrow. “I’m serious. Daisy is special to me. I don’t want to mess anything up. I was actually going to talk to her about that as well. Just because I feel the need to be affectionate doesn’t mean I have to jump her at first sight. I’d prefer to wait until she’s had more time to mature as a person. I was going to tell her I wanted to wait for a more-” he paused for effect here, “physical relationship until she was at least sixteen. And then when she turned seventeen I would make this blood bonding a true marriage.” Phelan said.
Well, the little snot just had everything planned out, didn’t he? Stupid little….grr…he’d love to strangle that look off his face.
“Very well. You may go inside.” Lucius seethed, his voice strained. He hadn’t wanted the boy to be so mature. Phelan raised an eyebrow, and then walked slowly into the room. Lucius growled when Phelan was out of earshot. Kingsley gave the man a pat on the shoulder.
“I thought you handled that very well.” He said, his deep voice rumbling. He looked at Hermione, who was still pressed close to Lucius’ side, and then his brown eyes flicked to where Hermione was holding Lucius’ hand with one of hers, and rubbing the top of his hand with the other. His eyes flicked back up to Lucius’ face, and he saw the challenge there. So….they were a couple, then? He knew there was more to that combination of magic than just concern for Daisy. Magic like that didn’t work so well with people who hated each other. Kingsley merely grinned, showing white teeth to them. “Enjoy yourselves.” He said, and turned to walk away.
Lucius watched the man retreat, quite intrigued. Not everyone would condemn this relationship, then. He gave a pleased little half-smile, and then guided Hermione back towards the room. He’d have to make sure both Phelan and Daisy still had clothes on.
Phelan was reclining in a visitor’s chair by Daisy’s bed, and she had given up one of her pillows and her extra blanket to him to make him more comfortable. She was on her side, and he was tilted towards her, and the only contact between them was Daisy’s bandaged hand held gently in Phelan’s.
“If you think that’s best, then I’m with you. We might not always agree on everything, but I concede to you this time.” Daisy said, and smiled at him. He gave her a tired grin in return.
Perhaps the hormonal little ingrates wouldn’t be too much of a problem.
~~
Hermione was snuggled firmly into Lucius’ side, and he played with her hair absently as he stared into the fire. It had been a week since the Ball. It had been a week since he and Hermione had combined their magic to break that damned barrier. It had been a week since Daisy and Phelan had become blood bonded.
The past few days had been a circus at the Ministry. The werewolves that had been detained after Fenrir was killed had been sentenced. Of the twenty subordinates Fenrir had brought with him, eleven had been wanted criminals. They were sentenced to life in Azkaban, and shoved into the Lycan cell block. Another eight were charged with kidnapping and obstruction of justice, and were given a mixture of a little Azkaban time and public service. Kingsley was a fair man, and didn’t feel their entire lives should be taken from them just because they had to listen to Fenrir Greyback.
The last to be dealt with was Ian. The young Spells Master hadn’t been brought in without a fight. He had seriously injured two Aurors after surprising them with a hidden wand, and turned another to stone before he was finally taken down. Ian had been deemed a Dangerous Magical Creature. His punishment was swift and final: death. He had been put down like a dog, his body cremated, and the ashes dumped into the trash.
Phelan had followed the stories in the paper, but hadn’t spoken to anyone about them.
Hermione lifted her head slightly, and turned to look up at Lucius.
“Lucius…may I ask you a question?” she asked gingerly, breaking him from his reverie.
“You just did, love.” Lucius teased. Hermione smiled, but he could see pink starting to color her cheeks. Hmm…what sort of question was she going to ask?
“You know what I mean….” She murmured. “I was only wondering if you’d ever…um…played before.” She said, her mouth going dry. Lucius raised an eyebrow.
“That question could be interpreted so many ways, darling. What do you mean?” he returned, twirling a perfect corkscrew curl around his finger.
“You know…like…played around before you…had sex.” She said, not meeting his gaze. Had she been looking at his face, she would have seen his eyes basically start to glow.
“Are you asking me if I’ve ever role-played?” he asked, and then internally crossed his fingers. Gods, please let that be what she was asking.
“Yes! That…” she said, starting to pick nervously at the silver clasp on his robe.
“I have, Hermione. Is there any particular reason you want to know?” he inquired, feeling his trousers begin to constrict.
“Well…I sort of…kind of…maybe have this….fantasy…”
